Deerfield Golf & Tennis Club
About
Deerfield Golf Club in Newark, Del., is a 145-acre public course, billed as a “natural treasure.” The 18-hole championship course gets the moniker thanks to its surroundings -- the ancient forest of White Clay Creek State Park. The 145-acre play, acquired by the state of Delaware in 2005, is a par-70, 6,323-yard golf course that features rolling terrain, smooth bent grass putting surfaces and scenic vistas. The mix of memorable, distinctive holes adds to the difficulty, as does the memorable, heavily wooded setting and dramatic elevation changes. Before or after your round at Deerfield Golf Club, enjoy the large putting green, full-service practice range, or lighted tennis and paddleball courts.

Excellent experience. Pro shop staff very friendly, especially Heather. Course in very good condition, very hilly. Local knowledge a must, lots of cool dogleg holes and elevation changes. Tee shot on 10th hole really fun, greens ran pretty quick, lots of subtle breaks. Friendly beverage cart girl, good sausage sandwich. Cart kids could work a little harder, didn’t touch my bag on way in or out, could have earned a better tip, sorry. Would definitely come back again.
Challenging Layout
I love this course. Conditions are always excellent, clubhouse is always clean, staff is very friendly.
First and last time at Deerfield
Walked in to pay and. Buy a cigar. I asked the guy behind the desk if the cigars were fresh, and he acted as though I asked if could take his sister on a date. I was surprised at his reaction, and more surprised at how stale the cigar was. If you like to play fairways that are on a 30 degree slant, or tee off from 80 feet above a dogleg, and undulations ALL over, then this is your place. Not my cup of tea, wasn’t a great experience all around. Also the practice area is like a quarter mile from the club house. Why? Anyway, I’m sure some people love it, but not me.
Challenging Layout
Was pleasantly surprised by this course. Recommended by a friend, it was a great but challenging round. Every hole brings in some form of elevation challenge. For March and after a few days of rain, the course was in excellent shape. Greens were quick. Now that I have an idea of this course and a general understanding of the layout, I will definitely be back to play again.
Tough test
Always a challenging course made more difficult with faster greens, tough pin placements and bumpy greens. I don't know when they aeriated but I hope they improve soon. Lots of tree debris everywhere too
Fun layout. Need to come back and try again.
Great layout. Very fun course.
Not many flat spots to land the ball (on fairway or green).
Local knowledge is crucial to playing well here, especially when playing in fall with all the leaves. Any shot off the fairway is tough to find.
Very undulating greens, and the superintendent must have had fun with wacky pin placements on day of my play.
Great Public Course
Hard to believe this is a public course. If your looking for a course to play in northern Deleware look no futher. Greens had a great pace and were in excellent condition and not ball marked to death. The rest of the course matched the greens EXCELLANT. Course was very busy but stilled play a 4 hour round.
No break for fwd tee players
With no break for fwd tee players, it is extremely hard to par. if you are a fwd tee player just go for the fun of it and scenery
