Deerfield Golf & Tennis Club
About
Deerfield Golf Club in Newark, Del., is a 145-acre public course, billed as a “natural treasure.” The 18-hole championship course gets the moniker thanks to its surroundings -- the ancient forest of White Clay Creek State Park. The 145-acre play, acquired by the state of Delaware in 2005, is a par-70, 6,323-yard golf course that features rolling terrain, smooth bent grass putting surfaces and scenic vistas. The mix of memorable, distinctive holes adds to the difficulty, as does the memorable, heavily wooded setting and dramatic elevation changes. Before or after your round at Deerfield Golf Club, enjoy the large putting green, full-service practice range, or lighted tennis and paddleball courts.

Nice Winter Golf conditions
Been playing quite a bit this winter, all over the area, and Deerfield is in just as good or better shape than other “nicer” courses.
Always great staff, and enjoyed a fun round and good pace.
Good test of golf
Good layout and conditions considering it’s February. A bit slow and bar was closed but all in all good experience and we’ll be back.
Deerfield winter
Winter conditions but course was still fun and challenging. Staffing was great.
Bring your A game
Part of the slow pace was due to cart path only, but I see this as a constant problem due to the difficulty of the course. Blind tee shots, difficult hilly terrain and challenging greens. There are few places to miss many of the greens where you have an easy up and down. Having said all of that, I drove well over an hour to the site and the course exceeded my expectations. I look forward to playing Deerfield again.
Great to be playing golf with my 19 yo son on 12/31 Happy New Year!
Excellent experience.....service was exemplary!

Ron
This course is still a GEM!
I first played the course many years ago when MBNA owned the course. Playing it now after two years. Loved everything about the course, especially the layout. Greens were a bit lumpy which is understandable.
Difficult, well maintained golf course.
Love this course. Wish it played it better. Fastest greens in the state with tricky reads.. Extremely well maintained and groomed.
Slow Play
The weather was perfect and the course was in great shape but 4:45 to play the course is way too slow. It's my favorite course in DE but they should manage the pace of play better. We were waiting on every hole while the group in front of us looked for lost balls and took their time on the greens. For some reason they always let the female putt out first and then the 3 guys would putt. On the turn I asked the bag boy to send a ranger out to ask them to speed up, as there were 2 open holes in front of the group He told me they were on pace for Deerfield's 4:20 pace of play. . We had teed of at 11:40 and it was now 2:00, so to be on pace we should have teed off at the 10th 10 minutes ago. The bag boy disappeared so I couldn't let him know he was wrong. We struggled with slow play the whole back 9 and when we went in to get a beer at 4:30 when we were finished, the bartender told us the bar was closed. What bar closes at a golf course at 4:30 on a holiday?? We left and found another place to spend our money. I will go back and play it again but think management should send out rangers to keep the pace up!!
Nice layout, great conditions!
After playing other courses in the area, Deerfield was a treat!
Deerfield
Course was long and very difficult. Was in great shape.
Hills and dales
A real fun track to play and score on. Generous fairways, but be mindful of the slopes and elevation chchanges. Very good and receptive green complexes. Very courteous staff will advise first time guests on the vagaries of the nines. Had a great time and hope to be back again
Hot Deal Golfers Not Welcomed
This is one of those very few courses that treats golfers who choose to book a hot deal differently than they treat other golfers. Whereas other truly great courses in the area....such as Wyncote allow hot deal customers solo play if the course is not crowded and co-bookers have not arrived ....Deerfield insists on making hot deal customers wait until the very second of their tee time and to be grouped with others who have booked that time regardless if the course is nearly empty of other golfers. The policy is enforced with a rudness that really makes one question why they choose to participate in Golf Now if they clearly have such a contempt for hot deal Booker's? All of that being said...the course is always well maintained...is a great layout and the elevation changes throughout the course offer a fun challenge. It's just somwhat comical the way the staff acts as though the course is some elite private club....which it clearly is not. If you don't mind dealing with snarky attitudes...the course is worth a visit.
Chance to use all your clubs
Fun layout to play. Lots of sloped fairways.
Greens were good, not fast but good shape. Tee boxes decent. Fairways good as well.
Looks like the course needs water and some Tlc. Worth the $40 we laid to play.
I would like to come back in the fall when it’s cooler out. Staff was good.
Great course!!
One of the best in the area IMO. For the money you can’t beat the quality of this course
