Deerfield Golf & Tennis Club
About
Deerfield Golf Club in Newark, Del., is a 145-acre public course, billed as a “natural treasure.” The 18-hole championship course gets the moniker thanks to its surroundings -- the ancient forest of White Clay Creek State Park. The 145-acre play, acquired by the state of Delaware in 2005, is a par-70, 6,323-yard golf course that features rolling terrain, smooth bent grass putting surfaces and scenic vistas. The mix of memorable, distinctive holes adds to the difficulty, as does the memorable, heavily wooded setting and dramatic elevation changes. Before or after your round at Deerfield Golf Club, enjoy the large putting green, full-service practice range, or lighted tennis and paddleball courts.

Spring is here!
Course was in excellent shape for early season- greens rolled well, and were very fast. Looking forward to another great season!
Excellent
Mike is great. Girl in pro shop is super friendly and personable. Great old school layout. Challenging holes with some easy ones mixed in.
Playing at Deerfield GC . Newark DE
No brainer , I don't turn down a round at Deerfield
9 Holes Before The Rain
The weather in the Northeast has been wet and cold. Thursday morning was calling for 49 degrees before rain starting at 1:00 pm and continuing for 2 days. Had to try and get some golf in! The rain started when I was on the 9 green! Based on the time of year and the wet weather we have experience, the course was in good condition.
Can't believe i didn't play this sooner
Can't ask for anything more from a public golf course. I will return soon. Not for those who do not like hilly courses but if the knees can take it you may want to make an exception here and try it out. Bar close for season. That will not stop me from returning, that's how much i liked the course..
Good day.
Pretty much had the course to ourselves. There was a delay with morning frost which wasn't an issue. There was still ice and frost on the greens which made some holes tough. In no way did the weather keep us from enjoying our round.
Tough greens
Great layout with lots of hills and canted fairways with raised greens. Really, really, really fast greens that roll out.
Lovely Track
Deerfield is a very interesting layout with tons of elevation change and challenging greens. There are not too many flat lies so be ready to play the slope. The staff was friendly and the pace of play would have been fine except for a frost delay and a carts on path restriction. The fall has been extremely wet here and the course showed some of the strains of the weather but the fairway aeration and overseeding is taking hold. Can't wait to try it again.
3.5 stars
A great course, in any condition. Trees, some water, plenty of elevation changes, not a lot of flat spots in the fairways. They just arrayed some of the fairways and some of the greens were not in the uasual condition for here. The course always gets 3 stars, in any condition. Always enjoyable.
First visit
This course was chosen as a mid-way point for a friend. I was unfamiliar with the course, but he was. Course layout was challenging. Shots needed to be precise. I would like to play again, since I now have a better idea of the layout. Hopefully, without cart path only restrictions.
Great value
fun course to play. Just be prepared, there are no flat lies on the course.
lots of neat holes. challenging.
Favorite DE course
I’d join Deerfield if I lived closer. It is truly a hidden gem. Pace of play was a little too slow yesterday and the heat made it more unbearable. We teed off behind a group which had about 4 foursomes. Our 4th player didn’t show up til 15 minutes after their last group teed off and they were still on the 1st green when we got there. We were backed up like that all day and the round was over 5 hours. Didn’t see any rangers driving around to speed up play, so we just took our time. Still love the course and hopefully it was a one time thing where we got stuck behind a big group.
Roller Coaster Ride
Very few flat lies on this course. Don't be fooled by the yardage. This course plays long, with many uphill holes, especially most greens were raised up too. And plenty of blind shots. I should be easier next time around
Tough Course with Decent Value
I have not been to Deerfield in about a decade. I forgot how great of a golf course it is. Driving the ball well is important and I did that, unfortunately everything else was not as solid and I put myself in some tough spots to get up and down.
The greens were in very good shape, would have loved to see them a touch faster. That being said who ever set the pins when we played was in a bad mood. They were tough which made the round even more fun.
$65 little steep, but this course is in much better condition and pace of play is much better than courses with similar prices in New Castle County.
Great Course for the money!!!
Friendly workers and atmosphere. I would recommend this course for everyone of all skill levels.
