Deerfield Golf & Tennis Club
About
Deerfield Golf Club in Newark, Del., is a 145-acre public course, billed as a “natural treasure.” The 18-hole championship course gets the moniker thanks to its surroundings -- the ancient forest of White Clay Creek State Park. The 145-acre play, acquired by the state of Delaware in 2005, is a par-70, 6,323-yard golf course that features rolling terrain, smooth bent grass putting surfaces and scenic vistas. The mix of memorable, distinctive holes adds to the difficulty, as does the memorable, heavily wooded setting and dramatic elevation changes. Before or after your round at Deerfield Golf Club, enjoy the large putting green, full-service practice range, or lighted tennis and paddleball courts.

Excellent as usual
Tees great. Fairways great. Greens great. Pro shop staff great. No complaints whatsoever other than missing three birdies from 3, 4 and 8 feet on back nine that would have given me a 65. All my fault, not the greens.
Love this place, been playing here off and on since it was Louviers and after MBNA bought it. Better than ever, but much easier since they chopped out so many trees. Used to be a bear! Now it’s more playable for the average Joe. I would recommend this course to anyone who isn’t going to complain about sidehill lies. But they’re just being babies anyway, so....:’(.
Beautiful course and challenging
Played here for the first time and was very happy with the conditions and layout. Greens were deceptively quick and tough to read. A lot of rolling hills and slope on fairways and greens. Course was in very good condition and I will definitely be playing again.
Deerfield Golf Club
I was impressed by the entire experience. The
Young Man Kevin at the Bag Drop was very nice, as well as the Young Lady in the Pro Shop. The Course is in Great Shape + was quite challenging. A Wonderful Day for sure! I'd love to play there again.
Slow play
One of my favorite courses in the area. A hidden gem! I would join if I lived closer. We play this course at least 5 times every year. One of the reasons I bought the Raspberry Trail card was to play here and then they dropped it. Course was in good condition as usual, but we were unfortunate to get stuck behind a slow group. Went to the tee box at our start time and the group was about 50 yards out searching for a lost ball. Waited on the par 3 second tee for awhile as they putted out. When we finally hit our drives on 4 which was more than an hour after we teed off, we called the Pro Shop to see if they could send out a ranger to speed them up. While they were on the 4th green the group ahead of them was chipping on to the 6th green, two holes ahead of them. After playing the 5th hole we drove to the 7th tee to bypass the group as they were still on the 6th fairway. There was a ranger at the 6th green waiting to say something to them, but we were already teed off, so we never played the 6th at all. After that it was clear sailing the rest of the day, as there was no one in front of us or behind us thru 18. Still love the course but hate slow play!!
This course is challenging
This course is in very good condition and was fun to play on. Looking forward to the Fathers Day Brunch which includes a free round of golf!
Under Rated Course
Played this course with a friend who is a member. $39 for twilight golf. We went off at 3. Course was not crowed. This course is pretty tough in my opinion. It’s hilly so ball is always below or above your feet. The course is long and will requires a lot of up hill 2nd shots. The bunkers are large and impressive. A lot of t-shots are elevated quite high and have great site lines. The fairways are large and manageable. This is a very nice public course, can see why it’s top ten in the state of Delaware. And at under $50 for 18 a great value. Another thing I thought was cool is I only lost one ball the entire day, and for an average golfer playing the course for the first time, probably a rarity. But it speaks to the good conditions of the course and surrounding areas.
Great weather-slow play
Course played great. Fairways were nice and dry even though we had rain last night. Greens were slow and shaggy. Beers were cold and the cart girl was cute! Sun was shining. Good day for golf.
Spring is here!
Course was in excellent shape for early season- greens rolled well, and were very fast. Looking forward to another great season!
Excellent
Mike is great. Girl in pro shop is super friendly and personable. Great old school layout. Challenging holes with some easy ones mixed in.
Playing at Deerfield GC . Newark DE
No brainer , I don't turn down a round at Deerfield
9 Holes Before The Rain
The weather in the Northeast has been wet and cold. Thursday morning was calling for 49 degrees before rain starting at 1:00 pm and continuing for 2 days. Had to try and get some golf in! The rain started when I was on the 9 green! Based on the time of year and the wet weather we have experience, the course was in good condition.
Can't believe i didn't play this sooner
Can't ask for anything more from a public golf course. I will return soon. Not for those who do not like hilly courses but if the knees can take it you may want to make an exception here and try it out. Bar close for season. That will not stop me from returning, that's how much i liked the course..
Good day.
Pretty much had the course to ourselves. There was a delay with morning frost which wasn't an issue. There was still ice and frost on the greens which made some holes tough. In no way did the weather keep us from enjoying our round.
Tough greens
Great layout with lots of hills and canted fairways with raised greens. Really, really, really fast greens that roll out.
Lovely Track
Deerfield is a very interesting layout with tons of elevation change and challenging greens. There are not too many flat lies so be ready to play the slope. The staff was friendly and the pace of play would have been fine except for a frost delay and a carts on path restriction. The fall has been extremely wet here and the course showed some of the strains of the weather but the fairway aeration and overseeding is taking hold. Can't wait to try it again.
3.5 stars
A great course, in any condition. Trees, some water, plenty of elevation changes, not a lot of flat spots in the fairways. They just arrayed some of the fairways and some of the greens were not in the uasual condition for here. The course always gets 3 stars, in any condition. Always enjoyable.
