Deerfield Golf & Tennis Club
About
Deerfield Golf Club in Newark, Del., is a 145-acre public course, billed as a “natural treasure.” The 18-hole championship course gets the moniker thanks to its surroundings -- the ancient forest of White Clay Creek State Park. The 145-acre play, acquired by the state of Delaware in 2005, is a par-70, 6,323-yard golf course that features rolling terrain, smooth bent grass putting surfaces and scenic vistas. The mix of memorable, distinctive holes adds to the difficulty, as does the memorable, heavily wooded setting and dramatic elevation changes. Before or after your round at Deerfield Golf Club, enjoy the large putting green, full-service practice range, or lighted tennis and paddleball courts.

Excellent and tough
Played on 9/14 after not playing here for 2 years.. Deerfield is a unique course that requires a vast variety of shots. There are no flat holes on the entire course and you must play here a few times to know the course so you can score decently on it.. Holes 4-6 are tight and extremely hilly and require precise shots.. The course was in good but not great condition today.. The greens were airated about 2 weeks ago and not rolling perfectly yet.... but are reasonably good. The tees are in good shape and the fairways are also in good shape with the exception of the landing area on hole 10 which is chewed up.. If you can drive it straight you'll have some real birdie opportunities here. If you drive it crooked, you'll be playing out of the tall trees all day.. If you like holes that require heroic shots then you'll find tons of them here at Deerfield... The elevated tee shot on the par 5 10th is dramatic and tough.. The par 3 . 8th hole is 225 yds straight uphill and requires a 3 wood for the biggest of hitters.. and most will use driver.. The 9th hole which is the number 1 handicap hole is a gem and requires 2 big shots to get home.. You will be treated at Deerfield like its a private club.. The amenities are 1st class and the grill in the clubhouse has fantastic food and drink.. We paid 35 on a weekend deal and it was a fantastic bargain... If you've never played here and want a tough challenge and beautiful facility in a nice setting .. go try Deerfield..
Great day on the links
Only issue was the aerated greens. Slightly bumpy putting probably will cost me my PGA card. Just kidding had a great day.
Fun but challenging
The course is in great shape. The layout can be challenging because there are not many flat lies. I have come to love the challenge and my game has improved quite a bit.
Definitly worth it
Beautiful course with plenty of contour on the greens, fairways and in the rough. You need to be able to play with an uneven stance, and read breaks on the green. Choose your tee club carefully. Longer is not always better, as you might have a flatter stance with a shorter drive, and/or have a much smaller margin for error with the extra distance. On a nice Tuesday afternoon, we finished in under 4 hours.
fun course to play.
I played here four or five times, this is a fun course to play, the course has a lot of tough holes it won't put you to sleep. Try it you'll like it.
Nice course
Tee time was 2:20 PM. Course was very nice and in great condition. No coolers allowed on the course was only downside. Had to put water in plastic bag.
Would definitely play course again.
Fairways were narrow and greens were fast.
Nice round overall.
Worth Every Dime
This is a golf course that offers everything a golfer wants -- friendly staff, scenic, challenging but fair and great greens. That said, the pace of play can be brutal -- it just shouldn't take nearly 5 hours to play a round of golf. Either get a ranger out there, take the rough down or put pins in easier positions. Deerfield is recommended for anyone with a handicap of under 18. It will frustrate begineers. A GPS is recommended because of there are many blind shots. Also, bug spray is a good idea -- as the knats were brutal. All in all, I love the track and I will be back.
good course and golf environment
Greens and fairway is in good confition. Course is short but challenging enough. I enjoyed playing and would do it again.
Beautiful condition
As always, the course was immaculate. Only negative was the driving range was closed due to tents being erected for an event the following day.
Great course - they need to seriously manage speed of play
Loved playing here - my second time (and i am going back later in the week). One big annoyance was a 4-ball that was extremely slow and held up the whole course. There was no intervention by the ranger which was very surprising. The course wasn't very busy so we should all have finished under 4 hours easily but ended up at over 4.5 hours...
Great Diveristy
First time playing course. Mid-afternoon tee time - let 2 twosomes play through and one more on our heels.
Course in very good condition. From DE shore area, so 3D version of game resulted in some new challenges - really enjoyed this change.
Will come back soon.
Fun Course
Love this course, so many undulations throughout. Not your average course. We got an awesome deal for $35, that's what I can afford. But it is worth much more. I love how short they cut the rough, for the most part it wasn't much of a penalty if your drive landed in the rough.
Fantastic Course
I have always loved this course. I dont get to play it as often as I would like, but its always a good time when i do play it. The course is a very challenging course, but not in an unfair way. Nothing goofy or tricky in the design (like a lot of courses)... just a good old fashioned test of your golf skills. the course is generally in great shape, and the staff is friendly. Great food... a little overpriced in my opinion, but great nonetheless. Probably not a good course for beginners, very hilly and difficult greens, but if your looking for a fun course and a nice challenge, go play!
Great Experience
I love the entire course. Great challenge! ! Looking forward to going back.
Nice round of golf
Course was in great shape. Staff was very friendly. I would definately go again.
good course
I was survery on this course. I suggest white pole 150 yards on all each of fairway. That help to all golfers need know this pole make them fast pace time.
level holes do not exist
One of the most exciting courses I've played .The course requires mental endurance, every shot will
take careful planning.Enjoy your round.
Good Course -- Great Value
I have played this course nearly weekly during the season since 2009. It is almost always in great shape throughout the summer.
On this occasion greens had been recently aerated making them slower and somewhat more difficult to read. Would have been nice to have a heads up from the pro shop or the starter.
