White Horse Golf Club has one of the toughest courses in the Northwest. Situated on the Kitsap Peninsula, the course is located just five minutes south of the Kingston ferry terminal. The course sits on the Puget Sound between the Olympic and Cascade Mountains, offering panoramic views on every hole. When the Suquamish Tribe bought the club in 2010, one of their top priorities was to make the course more playable. They enlisted John Harbottle for the job, a local architect who has designed several layouts throughout the state. By taking out nearly half of the bunkers, he opened up the greens and made them more approachable. He also widened the fairways and made the landing areas more generous. Since the update, White Horse Golf Club has become one of the most popular on the peninsula.

View is spectacular

One of my favorite courses in Western Washington, we teed off at 0757 on a Saturday morning and outside of a brief wait on hole 12 we didn't stop for a moment. Gorgeous course with enough challenges for everyone and every hole has a different challenge. Course itself was in tip top condition and the greens (as always) were perfect. Consistent speed from green to green, you were rewarded for well hit shots and punished for not so well hit shots

Don't Miss

This course had great balance between hard and easier holes and was really fun to play. It is so nice to play golf away from civilization. The course overall was in excellent shape and was a joy to play. I recommend playing this course if you are in the area

Nice day in the woods

We had the whole course to ourselves. In that sense, it was a wonderful round. Every hole is a separate entity - another nice aspect. However, some of the walking required from cart to green was difficult for those of us over 60. Many holes look more daunting than they actually are; if you select the smart club off the tee, there is usually plenty of landing area.
Nobody there to get clubs out of the car or load them on the cart -- thought that was pretty unusual for such a nice place.

Great Course

What a great course!! I would recommend this course to anyone.

The mosquitos were thick earlier in the morning, but thinned out with our second round (for only $25 and that included a cart).

Green, green, green. Just the way a course should be.

A Beautiful Challenge

This is a beautifully designed course that requires one to think through every shot. Greens are difficult but fair; it has become my favorite greater Seattle course because a good score is well earned. Fairways are rather generous; however, hitting the greens requires great accuracy. The course has been kept in perfect condition since the day it opened, and thanks to an outstanding staff and new ownership the clubhouse and all other facilities are now equal to the course itself. If you are in Western Washington and want to play golf, don't miss the opportunity to play White Horse.

Worth the drive

This is a very hard course to play, but very fun. If you're walking it is definitely a walk/hike with some golf. Awesome fairways and greens, both soft for the hot and dry summer. Awesome staff! The driving range could be a little better maintained but it doesn't change my mind about this course. I will gladly make the drive to play here.

Sand could be alot better

I really enjoyed the course. The selection of tee boxes is great. Fairways and greens are good, but the sand in the traps was like hitting off a wet beach, no bounce or give. Not a good quality type sand for the build up the course makes. Kind of like playing at Spanaway with less rocks.

Great Course and great value

This was my first time playing White Horse and I really enjoyed the course. Greens and fairways were in excellent shape (which is impressive considering the extremely hot and dry summer we have had) and it is challenging. I found the course reasonably tight but fair. Wild shots are going to get lost in the woods but the fairways are reasonably generous. The greens are relatively large but play smaller because of the elevation and sloping. Only really good approach shots will be rewarded. Driving range, carts and clubhouse and drink cart service were all great. Service is a little slow in the clubhouse. Pace of play was a little slow, but typical for a challenging course. All-in-all a great day of golf and a good value. I will definitely plan on returning.

Note to Seattle golfers. You can park in Edmonds and walk-on to the Kingston ferry for $8 (round trip). This is really convenient and cheaper than driving on. However, if you do plan on using the free shuttle to the course this must be arranged in advance with the course. This was not obvious to me when I made the tee time on the web site. To me, "shuttle" implies something that runs continuously or on-demand. I had one of my friends run down and get me and it was no big deal as the course is quite close to the terminal (10 minutes) but it would have been nice to know.

Challenging But Very Fair

This was the second round I played at White Horse, and partly due to the course, I shot my best score of the year. Fairways and greens were in excellent condition. The narrow fairways, small landing areas and postage stamp greens forced me to "play smarter"; I used a club other than driver on at least 60% of the holes. I stayed in the fairways and hit 12 out of 18 Greens in Regulation as a result.
Pace of play was decent. Our foursome let a twosome play through as they were politely pressing us. The on-course amenities included an adequate number of water coolers, only one set of porta-potties that I noticed, and frequent visits from the beverage/food cart. Carts are well-maintained and drive well. One of the best features of this course is the excellent direction signs posted at key intersections.
The restaurant serves really good food and a nice selection of beer on tap. It's a nice way to relax after the round, sitting out on the deck overlooking the 18th hole and watching how many golfers dunk a shot into the water hazard!

This is a great course that traverses through thick woods. The conditions were great, greens true with undulations, layout challenging and service was very good.

great North Kitsap course

Very good course in top condition, despite local drought the past few months. Greens well watered, tees in good good shape.
Ran into bottle neck on No 8 with two groups already in front (green and at second shot). Would appreciate more rangers to keep it going.
Some of it was us, as the OB shots are swallowed up in the native woods. 4-1/2 hour round.
Suggest a cart, this course has a lot of distance between holes. And elevation changes.

Great Course Slow Pace

The course was in great shape except for the greens which were a bit slow. Only real complaint was pace. The group in front of us was very slow. We only saw a marshal once and he was out looking for a lost cell phone. He did not seem interested in helping us. Never saw marshal again. Round took 5 hours and 15 minutes.

Worth the trip!

Took ferry across Puget Sound which was a great experience for someone not from the area. Ferry or driving this course is worth the trip. Friendly staff, great driving rance and practice areas. Challenging course but good selection of tee boxes for all handicaps. Fantastic scenery. A few narrow holes requiring targeted placement of drives. Biggest complaint was a few unforgiving greens with trouble around that made it difficult to stick. Many times in bunkers or facing blind chips and pitches uphill or over moguls. Definitely a short game test but overall a great time.

travel Edmonds - Kingston

The course was in great condition and very challenge most of the holes.
Only problem I concern is that traveling by ferry with high rate($50) for round trip was not very efficient and it took 3 hours to get back to Edmonds from Kingston due to a lot of cars lining up at the ferry terminal(Sunday afternoon).
