White Horse Golf Club has one of the toughest courses in the Northwest. Situated on the Kitsap Peninsula, the course is located just five minutes south of the Kingston ferry terminal. The course sits on the Puget Sound between the Olympic and Cascade Mountains, offering panoramic views on every hole. When the Suquamish Tribe bought the club in 2010, one of their top priorities was to make the course more playable. They enlisted John Harbottle for the job, a local architect who has designed several layouts throughout the state. By taking out nearly half of the bunkers, he opened up the greens and made them more approachable. He also widened the fairways and made the landing areas more generous. Since the update, White Horse Golf Club has become one of the most popular on the peninsula.

Beautiful Hard Course

Just played today and loved it. One of the harder courses to play because of the tree and berry bush lined rough, but the beauty, quiet and pure challenge are worth it. I would definitely play again and just prepare to lose any bought 10 feet left or right of the rough.

Nice course king rough!

It’s a really nice course but they keep the rough so long. Unless you hit every shot in the fairway expect to loose a full box of balls. I had plenty of shots that should have been playable just off the fairway that I couldn’t track down because the grass is 2/3’ long in places where it shouldn’t be. Between that and the ferry rides make sure you plan an entire day to play here. Beautiful scenery though.

Challenging But Fair Course

Guy I played with at Gold Mountain told me that if I thought that course (Olympic) was tough wait until I played White Horse.

I found them both to be challenging. White Horse was a challenging course. Having said this it has tee boxes to add and remove challenge from certain holes. The course was in great shape. The greens well manicured.

The staff in the pro shop were friendly and accommodating. A nice practice area. I was there and played twice on Memorial day weekend. It was not that crowded.

This course has a local reputation of being very difficult. I played the Blue/White tee combination and while the course was challenging I thought it was a very fun and fair course to play (I am around a 12 handicap). Not sure it deserves its reputation for being so hard. I did not find it any harder than Gold Mountain - Olympic or Newcastle - Coal Creek.

Course in very good shape

Course was cart path only due to recent rainy weather - but course was still in very good condition. Did not have to move ball out of wet/soggy area entire round. Greens are a little slow - ie cold weather and lots of rain, but rolled true. This was my first time to Seattle area, will definitely play again if I ever come back.

March 27 2022

My son and I got to play alone on a Sunday which was excellent . The course was real soggy which probably can’t be helped. The greens are in great shape although too tough for an average joe to enjoy. A couple of bathrooms on such expansive property would attract the women players. Overall very enjoyable day.

Hidden Gem

Great layout, challenging. Drains well. I played after several days of rain and literally only needed relief in one spot on a fairway.

Beautiful Course, Good Service

White Horse is quickly becoming my go-to golf course. Beautiful conditions. Pleasant staff. Back 9 is more challenging than the front. I often go to White Horse when family from out of town wants to spend a day golfing.

Great Course

Great design and layout. Each hole separated so you never see any other golfers except those directly in front and behind you. Course condition good but not great but mainly an aesthetic issue. Well maintained bunkers. Clubhouse and bar/ restaurant very nice.

No Broken Windows

This was a budget friendly course that has open space with almost no homes to hit. It is a really well layed out course that has lots of challenges and you need to play it well because fairways can be tight. The bunkers are placed for looks meaning usually out of play but presents another challenge. They are raked and maintained well so you can hit from the sand if you do find one. The greens are in great shape and fairways are nice to play from. There are two things that I think could be improved on and that is employees to be more engaging with players and maybe upgraded carts with gps or better marking for distance on course. I say this because I didn’t know were hole 1 was and when playing distance was sometimes a challenge. Thankfully our group had a garmin watch. All this to say is I am grateful that I could play a course so amazing especially for the price.

Aim at the center of the green

Played the course for the first time. Condition is great but the most memorable part is how small and challenging the greens are. The day I played my irons are slight off so the balls get banked into bunkers. The greens are small so the sand shots need to spin and stop for the sucker pins, making par-save tough.

On my second round, I aimed at the center of the green and my score dramatically improved. If you aren't hitting irons like lasers, I highly recommend this strategy for this course.

Overall condition is wonderful from tee-box, fairways to greens.

Comparing to Gold Mountain (Olympic), even with similar slopes/rating, White Horse to me is much more challenging due to its punishing greens and bunkers, and slightly narrower fairways.
