good course, but being aerated

an excellent course with very friendly and accommodating staff. Unfortunately, the day we played, aeration was on-going and back-9 was closed. Had to play front-9 twice. Pace was a bit slower than normal, mainly due to the front group with a couple of novice players who seemed to spray balls left & right.

Only complain was gusty wind

Nice course and layout. Fairways and Greens were in great shape with true roll. There are some challenging holes require blind shots and decision making shots which makes even more interesting. Would love to come back for more.

Great public course! Challenging and pleasing to the eye!

I played a 3-hour round (riding) in low-50 degree weather with windy conditions. It was my first time playing here after I found a hot deal on GN. I played all 18-holes (12:03PM tee time) by myself and a few groups in front of me allowed me to play through. I played from the Blue tees and shot 84.

The course was in good condition overall. Tee boxes were perfect despite being a bit rainy the previous two days. There were some wet spots on the fairways but not enough to affect the game. I would have appreciated if the course permitted "lift, clean, and place" as a few holes were wet in the landing areas. (Note: not complaining, just explaining how the course was in early Dec after rain)

Greens were in great condition despite the rain and cold. If I were to complain about anything at all, it would be the fact that I saw many divots on the greens that were not repaired by players. I don't know why there were so many tbh.

The course layout is ideal for challenging golf. There are blinds shots, uphill shots, downhill shots, and two-tier greens at times. True roll on the greens.

The clubhouse is a large permanent trailer that has a small sized bar and decent pro-shop. This course is about all about golf. There was a grass driving range, which I didn't use. Mats were being used as it's the winter (I'm assuming).

Fun course to play

We just played it this past weekend Thanksgiving .The course was in really good shape for this time a year . I just wish that it would be cheaper for nonresidents during the regulars golf season . I can only afford to play it either in the spring or fall off to bad !

Beautiful Course but Forced Carries tricky for Women Golfers

The spring and summer of 2016 I played this course four times. The course condition was excellent every time we played. It is equal to the premier Somerset county course, Neshanic (in terms of the beauty and challenge of the course).

The down side for women, are the forced carries and one hole in particular the tee box is not in the right place because no average woman golfer can hit the drive far enough to get the second shot over the hazard so you are forced to layup on the third shot making a par very difficult.

There is no real "grill" to enjoy the 19th hole. However, for outings the do have a test for an after golf party.

Best 2 days of Golf ever

Was so fortunate this week to enjoy playing at both Neshanic and Blue Heron, which are easily my two favorite courses in the state of New Jersey( that I've played at), I enjoy them even above Ballyowen. Golf courses were in pristine condition as well, even after the long summer of play. Blue Heron is strictly a Golf Course though, it's a must play if you are within driving distance and you want to play at one of the most beautiful and perfectly maintained courses in the state.. If you happen to be shopping for a place to get married at the same time, this is not the place. The clubhouse and Pro Shop are nothing more than an upscale FEMA modular. The starter was funny knowledgeable and very friendly and got you started on your round in a joyful mood. I can't wait to come back and play it again.

Great Shape

Heron Glen is one of the best conditioned public golf courses in the area. Tees, greens fairways and bunkers are all in excellent the shape, The greens are in good shape having recovered nicely from an early Septemebr aeration. The only negative is the absurd number of unrepaired ball marks on the greens. This is not on the maintenance crew but the golfers themselves. The putting green is absolutely immaculate because no chipping is allowed. It is indicative of what the course greens could be like if people would just respect the course and repair a ball mark. Heron Glen is an interesting layout and fairly challenging from the blue tees. The course is what Americans refer to as links style with some significant mounding and fescue off the rough. It is pretty wide open and you can easily hit drive on the majority of holes with no worry of trouble. There are a few holes (4,6,8,13) that put a premium on a well placed tee shot over a bombed driver. The back has three par three's and three par fives that all play very different so it is not monotonous. The crew takes very good care of this course and a bunker project that was completed last winter to into the early spring has been very successful. Heron Glen has some of the best bunkers in a 100 mile radius, public or private. I played late in the day and walked getting a twilight rate of $27 which is well worth it. The course is very walkable. Only pain is a long walk from 9 to 10 and from 17-18 (like walking 20 holes instead of 18) The course can get a little pricey going as high as $81 including a cart on the weekend.

Heron Glen: Great Day

Heron Glen is in great shape right now. The greens are pretty smooth and quick. Tees and fairways have done very well despite the summer heat. The rough just off the fairway is actually lush. We caught a great Hot Deal ($33 +fees); Hot Deals for Heron Glen are not that frequent and get snapped up quickly. At this time of year other courses are being aerated, so having a really nice course in very good shape is a find. It is a fun layout with five parr3 and five par 5s, providing nice scoring opportunities. While the clubhouse amenities are just average, the staff is very friendly.

This course was a pleasure to play

I always enjoy this course but need to bring extra golf balls. High grass hides the ball when I occasionally miss the fairway!

I wish they would build a clubhouse. Hunterdon County is behind other NJ counties in their golf courses.

One of the Best

All the the reviews have been very good, so I wanted to be more critical. I couldn't. This course is fun and a challenge.

Conditions were excellent throughout. There is something to think about on many holes, whether to go for it or not. 6, 13, and 16 are the best.
