New Bunkers great shape
This is one of the better public golf courses in the area. It is a very interesting layout that is well bunkered and very well manicured. The staff does an excellent job in maintaining the course. They have just completed a bunker restoration project that has further enhanced the playing conditions. All the bunkers are in great shape and are consistent throughout the course. The back side has 3 par 3's and 3 par fives. There is very good variety on all the holes and no two holes are alike. They day we played they were aerating the front side so we played the back twice teeing off at 4:30 we zipped around in 3 hours walking!!! Another plus was because of the aeration inconvenience, they charged us only $15. More course should make this type of accommodation when aerating. This course is only 20 minutes from my house so I will be playing it quite often this summer
Great Course
I would have rated this course higher except that the greens had recently been punched, making putting a little more difficult. I feel that I left a couple of birdies behind as a result. I live in Florida and only get up this way once in a while. This was my first visit to this course and I was extremely pleased. I can't wait to get another crack at this course.
April 23rd
Greens were aerated which made putting a challenge, however course provided a lunch voucher.
Wow, I was really surprised at how great this was.
If you live in South/Central NJ, I highly recommend this golf course.
Very playable for all levels of golfers. I play as a 3 hdcp, and played with a 12 and a 21 hdcp golfer and we all really enjoyed it , from three separate tee boxes.
Expect some windy conditions, but not a lot of forced carries , it was terrific.
Great value and nice layout!
Enjoyed playing the course and the fairways and greens are the best. Lush fairway grass and smooth, rolled, fast greens. I like the layout too but you can't retrieve your ball if it goes into the natural areas. It's a big no no and they get pretty mad at you if you do enter this zone so stay out.
Excellent
A top 10 day for Feb. Course was in amazing shape for the winter. Greens were excellent and fairways lush. Will definitely play again.
gem
resort type golf, staff is very good and course could not be better for late February. great lay out that is
fun and a good test, add wind and tough. must play
this course one of jerseys best.
trailer club house clean has every thing I needed so good enough
Best public course in Hunterdon County
The course is always in excellent shape. The fairways are immaculate and the greens roll true. Marshalls are always out on the course ensuring that pace of play moves along without being rude. Everyone in the clubhouse is friendly and helpful. I highly recommend this course as a must play in Jersey.
Pristine Conditions
Great conditions. You can not find better kept rough any where else. The leaves are all picked up and you really have to get far off the fairway to loose your ball in some leaves. Putts rolled true.
Great value and great conditions for the money
There was a 75 minute frost delay (It was December 6 after all). Once the delay was lifted the clubhouse staff, starter, and rangers got play moving very quickly and kept play moving very efficiently. The course was in superb condition for this time of year.
Love the conditions and set-up!
This was my first time playing Heron Glen and I will absolutely return when the opportunity arises! The course was in perfect condition for early November (no leaves on the ground, every bunker was raked and contained sand, not dirt, and the greens were FAST and rolled true) which made the round more enjoyable than I expected. The layout of the course provides a the player with an opportunity to score on every hole and it relatively open feel makes if fun for the player who hits the occasional errant shot to redeem him/herself on the next one.
Worth the Trip
Played on a cold and blustery day, so the pace of play was probable affected by the relatively small turnout.
Overall course conditions were quite good, although there were many obvious ball mark repairs on the faster than most public course greens. Clubhouse is but a trailer and the facility will greatly benefit if and when the much rumored new clubhouse is built. Staff was very friendly and accommodating, unlike many public/muni courses. We will be going back, hopefully when the weather is nicer.
Nice layout, very good conditions!
Really enjoyable course layout....Well managed, friendly staff. Greens were in great shape, rolling fast but consistent. Fairways were aerated about 10 days ago, so a bit soft and limited run or conditions would have been 5 stars.....too bad the county keeps voting down a real clubhouse, since this is the best public course in my area between PA / NJ.
Heron Glen
Decent layout and very well maintained course. Played in 20+ mph winds so it made for an interesting day. Most of the course is pretty exposed so I would imagine that wind is always something to deal with in the spring and fall. Clubhouse is nothing great, but the carts are well maintained and the staff was friendly.
Very enjoyable
Nice course. Course conditions were excellent and lush. Played with some frequent golfers of the course had an excellent time.
Great round of golf
Played this course a few times, has yet to disappoint, greens were a little beat up with ball marks and foot prints (severe foot dragger a few groups ahead of us) but also played in the afternoon so those things happen. Played into a 1-2 club wind, so definitely tee it forward if not a long hitter or low handicapper used to those conditions. It has always been in fantastic shape every time I have played. Definitely recommend, even if driving an hour or more like I did to get here.
Must Play!
What a gem! Worth the drive from Middlesex County. Fantastic layout. Tees and fairways in excellent condition considering near drought conditions in NJ. Greens were a little beat up and lots of unfixed ball marks. Also, no permanent clubhouse, just a trailer, but small pro shop and snack bar. Can't wait to play here again!
Top notch experience
First time playing here, definitely will come back again. Greens just aerated a week ago so I expected the putting to be a bit tough. Wasn't nearly as bad as other courses I've played shortly after green aeration. The course in general was excellent - near perfect fairways (a little dry is all), nice mix of hole design, elevation changes. Met up with a threesome that were a pleasure playing with. Overall a great round!
Nice Course
I was told about this course the day before, the greens were aerated but what a nice course. I will be going back!
