Good Course
Course is in great condition , some greens since the pin location was changed were not in ideal shape . Will recommend it ..
Excellent course!
I have been playing this course for several years. From day one I have enjoyed the friendliness of the staff and the challenge the course presents.Excellent overall in every aspect.I live in Somerset county and prefer this course over Neshanic.
Challenging New Jersey Course
Another day in the middle of nowhere. A course with some tricky approach shots, rolling fairways, and some tough greens. It had rained very heavily the day before so it was cart path only, and it felt like every shot I hit was to the other side of the fairway, but the course had drained well and played pretty normally. The rangers were checking people for heat exhaustion in the day's extreme heat and humidity, which was a nice touch. Now they need to replace that double-wide clubhouse.
Great course
Played a 648 am time with some older locals, they were a big help with some of the blind shots and hills you don't know about. Course was great, they aerated a week and a half prior and the greens were in great shape, I was very impressed. Fun links course in great shape I'll be back more then once.
One of the best in the area
I have played this course on multiple occasions and it always exceeds expectations. While most courses this time of year are getting brown and generally show a lack of upkeep, Heron Glen is a model of consistency.
From tee to green this course is in excellent shape. Aerating had taken place earlier in the week, but the greens were still in great condition and they gave out a coupon for a free lunch as compensation.
Definitely one of the best in the area, I am always impressed with Heron Glen.
Air rating
I didn't know air ration that day. It was so bothed my playing.
Great course with an excellent staff
This course is excellent from tee to green. You're putts will roll nicely and hold their line. Before you leave those greens make certain you repair your marks and those which others did not so the greens continue to roll nicely. There are false greens on a few holes so, be aware that everything which appears to be a green is not. Played West course 6:28 Saturday morning with a foursome I wasn't familiar with and the round took much longer than it should have. Make certain to get a bite after your round, food selections are very good, either in the restaurant or from the grill.
Foursome behind in a hurry
Excellent day, excellent course. If it wasn't for the foursome behind us it was an excellent trip. The only thing I could add is they need an excellent clubhouse.
greens were a little bumpy.
I felt that the greens could have been in better shape. we did find out though that the course was prepping for aeration. I hope that it will be better in the fall.
You won't be disappointed
Fun course, well worth the over hour long card ride. It rained on us so we didn't finish but the course was in great shape and with an excellent layout. Will definitely be coming back to play again.
Gorgeous course. What you see is what you get!
This was now the third time I have played Heron Glen (first in 2016) and will tell you that it is a true treat to play. Maybe it is just one of those courses that fits my eye but I think that every hole is great. As soon as I pulled in to the parking lot with my wife (we played just the two of us in about 4 1/2 hours), a bag boy pulled up in a cart to take our bags. We arrived about 10 minutes before our scheduled tee time due to the hour drive, and asked to have our tee time moved 20 minutes, giving us the chance to actually warm up. We were given the OK and told it would not be an issue at all. After a great warm-up on their practice range (hit off grass, which is always a bonus), we teed off and never had to wait more than 3-4 minutes before hitting our next shots...the pace of play was very good and never got backed up. I played from the Blues (6,500 yards) and was very pleased with the challenge. Like I said above, every hole is great, there are none of those holes that feel "forced" in to a space...like one of those 105 yard par 3s or 289 yard par 4s you sometimes find at other courses. Each hole is an individual hole, occupying its own space on the course. Now this may not be something you think about every round you play but it is something I think about....so I really appreciate finding it at places like Heron Glen. The tee boxes were in great condition with nice flat, closely mowed grass and really gives you confidence teeing off on each hole. I will say that it is important to find the fairways because although there are no trees or water hazards lining the holes, there is tall, wild fescue growing on most holes once you veer off left or right from the first cut of rough. It is playable if you find your ball but chances are it will cost you a stroke. Plus, there are ticks everywhere so best keep your ball in the fairways. So, once you tee off, find the fairway, and hit your approach shot in to the greens, you will find yourself putting on some of the nicest putting surfaces I have played on all summer....not a word of a lie. I thought that besides the unfixed ball marks (which you will find on any course that allows knuckle heads to play), the greens rolled true and quick. Start your ball on the right line with the right pace and you will either make your putt or be in there close for a tap in. It was a pleasure putting and I even made a couple of 25 footers (birdie on 1, par on 18). All around, it was an enjoyable day. And for those of you who are also lucky enough to have your wife come out and play 18 holes with you, the course will not eat her alive either. My wife played from the Reds and she had a great day out there too. Sure, she lost a couple of balls, but at the end of the day she broke 100 and got a tan. Nothing to complain about there...
Do yourself a favor and book a tee time at Heron Glen. It will be one of the most fun, challenging rounds of your golf year and I have no doubts that you will be back for another round soon. I cannot wait to get back out there.
Thank you so much for the great review! We really appreciate you taking the time to write this and hope that you and your wife will come out to Heron Glen again soon.
Great Course
A fun course to play, played 18 in 4 hours! This course will go into my short list of local places to play!
Thank you for playing Heron Glen and we hope to see you again soon.
Beautiful layout
Overall great course and price with golf now. Greens were good. Practice tend to faster than the actually greens on the course. Pace was good.
Thank you for playing Heron Glen and we hope to see you again soon.
Good course for the money.
Course has a fair layout. The conditions were very good. The only problem was a slow pace of play. A round on a Tuesday in middle of the day should not take 4 1/2 hours. This was blamed on a "senior men's club earlier in the day". The pace of play should be more closely monitored and enforced for all groups. Other that that issue the course was enjoyable.
Wow Great Course
Great Course. I can see what it is a top 10 in NJ. Scenic, well maintained, challenging and friendly people. Great experience and I will go back.
Thank you for the 5 Stars! We hope to see you at Heron Glen again soon.
Must Play
Amazing corse, extremely well maintained. This is a must play for any golfer. Red, Yellow, White, Blue and even Black Tee Box available. Note that twilight is cut off at 8:30pm (sun is out till 9pm). Cooler on carts provided, just bring ice. Will play again
Thank you for the 5 Stars and the pictures! We hope to see you at Heron Glen again soon.
Always worth the trip
Course is in phenomenal condition. Always a pleasure to play here.
Thank you for playing Heron Glen and we hope to see you again soon.
A great public course!
Heron Glen is a must play in Hunterdon, County. Great layout, conditions and staff. Greens were fast and challenging. It's too tough for beginners. They only improvement would be to add a TEE around 6250 to 6300 yds. Currently, the Whites play 6000 and the Blues play 6500; too big a gap.
Always Enjoyable
Course was in great shape. Greens, Tees, and Fairways all good. Favorite holes are #6, a short par4 with approach over hazard.#13, par 5 with forced carry on tee shot and second shot, and #16 another great par 5, where positioning your ball for optimum results is required.
Heron Glen good
Good course in good condition – except for the greens which had been aerated and top-dressed. Bunkers had nice, white, “kitty litter” sand.
Although opened in 2002, it doesn’t yet have a real clubhouse (trailer instead). Maybe this year.
I thought the course played easier than the 125 slope rating (white tees).
Very good deal at my coupon-aided $26 greens fee.
Seaview Stay & Play Golf Package
