Golfer Reviews
Great course
Came from Tinton Falls NJ but the ride was well worth it. Course was in wonderful shape both fairways and greens. Compares with finest courses in New jersey. ADDED VALUE WAS THE 3 NICE INDIVIDUALS I PLAYED WITH. sUPER VALUE FOR GOLF NOW HOT DEAL******
One of the...
... better public courses in New Jersey. Some forced carries but they are doable. Every hole has something exciting going on.
perfect conditions
the course was in perfect shape, great pace of play, highly recommend
Public Courses Don't Get Better
Not even close. This is equal to the best public courses in NJ and most any place else you'll go. Well kept, reasonable cost, super layout (no windmills-it's all there right in front of you). Greens solid.
You can play this from several tees. Play fronts if your number is over 12. Blue is tough. Black is impressively difficult.
This is a golfer's course. It has everything one would want to see in a track and is very well kept. Not a lot of amenities, but this is golf! They do have enough stuff to eat/drink to keep you going.
You can show up weekend afternoon and get a killer deal and walk for well under $50. Be ready to bring your game. You'll need it.
There are many dozens of CC's in Jersey that can't come close to this place for golf. Don't spend a fortune for the best. IMO this is among the top 5 public linx in the state.
Great course, great value
We had a terrific outing on a somewhat gray day. The course had a planned outing that started at 1pm yet the staff did not rush players or disrupt our game. The staff couldn't have been more friendly. The driving range is very accommodating with plenty of room. The fairways are fairly wide which helps players that are fighting their slice but it is challenging with its hazards and well positioned traps. The course is currently building a new clubhouse and the plans, which are posted, look amazing. The views of New Jersey are breathtaking. I will play there again and defiantly recommend the course.

New to the course
"I shall return" I played this course for the first time on Sat May 27. Liked it so much I returned to play on Sat Jun 3. My home course is West Point at the US Military Academy, the distance from home in Essex County about the same to Heron Glen. I only wish I paid the same rate as I do at West Point; If I could get the same rate at HG, I'd be there to play at least 3 times a month.
Would definitely play again!
Very nice golf course. The clubhouse looks like a construction trailer so hopefully that is not too important to you. Most of the staff was super friendly, and a couple of the older guys could stand to lossen up a little bit for my taste but again the off course stuff should not be the reason why you choose a course.
The course was in immaculate shape which is hard to accomplish this time of the year in NJ with the wacky weather trends we have been having. Pretty important to stay close to the fairways as the rough has some high grass/weeds. Not much as far as woods/overpopulated with trees so if you miss the fairway you can't kick your ball into a good hitting position without getting caught. Bring your beach towel shovel and bucket as there is plenty of sand, nice clean easy to hit sand, but definitely a lot of greenside bunkers.
Overall just a really nice golf course that I would definitely play again.
Heron Glen Golf Course Review
This was my third time playing this course and I truly believe it is one of the public gem courses in the area. Very nice layout with good conditions for fairways and greens. The speed of play was 4 hours for 18 holes. Definitely recommended to golf enthusiasts.
Fun, breezy track
Very well designed, challenging but fair. Playing from the tips had a few looooong holes (480 into the wind to close out the round was a little mean). Longer holes are less punishing and give you a little bail out.
Overall a nice, challenging and fair course. Don't know that I'd call it "fun" or wildly unique, but worth a shot. Wouldn't pay $80 again, maybe $60 or so is a "fair value," but not disappointed
Fantastic golf course
First thanks to GolfNow for great price, fantastic course, my first time here and I got hooked with a guy who works there, very helpful. Loved the course layout, played well, enjoyed every minute of my round, will play again soon.
good course, but being aerated
an excellent course with very friendly and accommodating staff. Unfortunately, the day we played, aeration was on-going and back-9 was closed. Had to play front-9 twice. Pace was a bit slower than normal, mainly due to the front group with a couple of novice players who seemed to spray balls left & right.
Only complain was gusty wind
Nice course and layout. Fairways and Greens were in great shape with true roll. There are some challenging holes require blind shots and decision making shots which makes even more interesting. Would love to come back for more.
