2nd time was even better than the first!
Folks here are great. Well except for the starter Jim who was in a bad mood or something. Otherwise everything was great. Even gave me a free lunch and drink since they were in late phase of aeration. Playing conditions were exceptional. Will return.
Great Course
This is the second time I've played this course this year. We played an early afternoon round and practically had the course to ourselves. Weather conditions were awesome.
It's a challenging course, but most of the fairways are wide so there is forgiveness for errant tee shots. Lots of sand both in the fairways and around the greens, so bring your sand wedge. If you can keep it in the fairway, you can score.
Love this course.
good course for all playing levels
Only complaint is that the ranger would not speed up group ahead that had lost contact with group ahead of them. Ranger cited that slow group was on pace, but the first thing I was taught is to keep pace or let group behind play through.
A Public Golfer's Dream
I've played many fantastic private New Jersey courses, such as Arcola Country Club and Trump National Bedminster, and I have to say that this course's overall quality is up to par with the these elite country clubs. The course can be hard for low handicappers with its length from the tips, especially on the par 4s, yet is going to be very enjoyable for recreational players thanks to the course's wide fairways. Greens role at about an 8 on the stimpmeter when I played an are in incredibly healthy shape.
Excellent course
This was truly one of the nicest courses that I have ever played out of the 68 courses that I have played. I would definitely play here again. Great staff and course conditions.
Review
The course was in great shape. The staff was very accommodating as we had some last minute changes with a our groups. However the starter was extremely rude, appeared as if he was trying to get a local out with a group and got annoyed with my groups. I have played here many times, the first ever encountered this, also the first time I saw this starter.
Nice tract
Excellent layout and well maintained greens and bunkers
Great track, although a bit pricey.
Nice mix of holes. Played from the blues, definitely makes the three pars more challenging! Thought it was a very fair test, easy to walk except the long walk from 17-18. Definitely a course to play several times before you get a real feel. Wind a factor since it's so open. I'll be back, but at a later tee time to get a better price. Very affable staff!
Great Course If You Are In The Area
I didn't know how long it would take to get to this course from Southern Bergen Country until I started driving. I called the pro shop and said that I was running late and they shifted my tee time with a smile.
It is a very solid course that seems deceptively easy. Mark my words, it is not. The second rough eats balls and the greens, which are in perfect condition, are deceptive. I played with a son and his parents who play there all the time so that made the experience much more enjoyable.
The course was packed on a Wednesday afternoon, but it moved very quickly on the front nine. The back nine backed up at 10 but eventually evened out. One thing I noticed is that everyone was a good golfer. Hackers and beginners should avoid this course. And that is good for the rest of us.
Fun Course In Nice Condition
Very nice course. Interesting selection of holes with some challenges. Course condition was very good. Greens could be a touch faster, but they did roll fine, and I'm a snob when it comes to green conditions. Nice to see quality, accessible golf in Central Jersey. I would definitely play here again.
A reputation well earned!
What a great course! Even though it poured all week leading up to our round, the course drained well and the conditions were very good. The course is a beautiful layout, with lots of environmental areas on almost every hole. I also liked that there five par fives and five par threes, it made it so that each hole seemed different than the one before it: no stretch of 4 straight, similar par fours like you may find at other courses.
Overall a wonderful course and well deserving of its reputation as one of the top public courses in the state!
pleasant round
a very enjoyable round of golf. 5 par threes 5 par fives and interesting course. Couple of weeks this place will be in supreme condition. Don't tell too many people. I'm going back.
One of the best public course I ever played
Great course. After speaking to staff a staff member (who are all friendly) he informed me that the manager comes in 2 hours early and putts the greens before he lets anyone on to make sure they are being maintained. Black tees are real black tees sometimes a 100yards from the white. A++++
Spring golf
Great condition for so early in the year. Friendly staff and nice greens with good pace.
Heron Glen Review
Very good course for the money I paid through golf now. There regular prices are a little steep especially on week ends. Everything was from good to excellent except for one ranger who continually rushed us even though we had to wait on several holes t to tee off. I understand they want to move play along but to hurry up and wait is ridiculous.
nice track
a little expensive for non county resident
but a nice and fun course to play
Course in great condition.
For this time of year (end of March), this course was in great shape, and we did get too much snow this winter in NJ. Greens were rolling nicely -- not too fast but definitely not too slow. It was cart path only, but so is every other course in the tri- state area. Fairways were in decent shape and surprisingly not too wet. Friendly staff too.
Good layout and reliably good conditions
I've been playing this course since it opened (~50 rounds); great for a municipal course; well maintained, greens on the back have always been in better shape than those on the front but overall they're kept in good shape considering the abuse they take; very generous fairways but lots of trouble and lost balls if you hit a wayward drive; interesting par 5s, though, too many forced carrys; pace of play suffers (usually 4:45 to 5hrs) due to the overall length and many hazards; I don't live nearby anymore but won't hesitate to come back whenever I'm in the area

Course Condition was excellent. Fast Green and very nice staff.
Excellent course
Course in very good shape. Bunkers, fairways greens well maintained. Good pace of play with rangers out and about. Tough holes with some interesting pin placements. Greens were fairly true, undulating and quicker than what we are use to. Pretty location and scenary. Clubhouse is a disappointment however with an OK practice area. Very friendly staff. Looking forward to going back soon.
