Nice Course in the Woods
Tilden is a nice course that plays through the woods. Great views over the bay while driving up to the course on a clear day. Long par 3s, some holes with big hills up or down, overall a nice course. Can get a bit wet in some areas as lots of shade, but the course is kept in pretty decent condition. If you snag a deal definitely worth a visit
Nice course in beautiful setting
I think all the negative reviews are off base. This was a great experience. It is challenging and I imagine it can get sloppy when it's raining more often.
Pace of play is a bit slow, but it was a busy Saturday morning.
I really enjoyed it here. Staff was really nice. I did see two dead golf carts though and staff had to come out with new ones for the players.
Nice Course To Play
I have played this course a couple of times before, very pretty course. Except for a few wet spots on a few of the fairways the course was in great shape. Sand traps had sand which is a plus, greens were in great shape. One problem I was repairing 2 and 3 divots on every hole, big divots that you could easily see. The pin placements were tough but fair, nothing real radical. They do have a few forced carries and if you haven't played this course before you could get in trouble. This day I noticed there were a lot of walkers, that surprised me as I can walk a lot of courses but I would not walk this one. Could be they were only playing 9. I got a hot dog at the turn and it was really good and not expensive. As I always put in my comments, this is a public course not a resort.
Always a fun day
This is a fun course. Not long but has some holes like #1 that will take all your game to get par. Once you have played it a few times you’ll learn where to hit it.
Young kid checking in was awesome!!
Snack bar guy was not.
Funky layout with lots of up and downs
OK track, but I would not pay the price to play here. It is not a course I would walk as it is extremely hilly. It was in really good shape but just funky and not worth $60 to play IMHO.
Course so soggy even in the middle of a drought?
It was amazing how wet and muddy this course was with many tee boxes closed and shooting from temp boxes only half the length of the hole.most every shot hits and stops with little or no run out.Strange when other courses are so dry this one is soggy and muddy.Fun for a cheap round but certainly not worth regular prices.
Soggy good time
Having player Tilden on several different occasions, I gotta say, I was prepared for a long round... but this was ridiculous. The number of walking players was staggering, causing up to 10 minute waits between shots, and no Marshals to usher play along. All that being said, the course was in fair shape, but extremely soggy in most every water collection point on the course. The website failed to mention 4 of the first holes were effected by tree removal, but they changes we’re easily averted. All in all, it is a magical course and having no fog made for gorgeous views. The greens were rolling pretty well, and the fairways were clean and will maintained. I’d recommend this course to anyone.
Pretty course
Putts are challenging with the heavy moisture on greens. Be careful with your golf cart. I had several spin outs. And after climbing up the 9th hole you have a steep downhill on 10th hole. My cart fish tailed nearly turned on its side and threw me out of the cart. I saw my life flash in front of me.
Best Golf Value anywhere
Place is just nuts-beautiful for a public course and the price. The staff, (Randy and others), CARE about your experience...... but the course says it all. Nestled in the forest of Tilden and kept well-enough. Reasonably short but the first hole will, well, just upset you.
Good luck.
Nary a Flat Lie
Tilden is a nice course. Great choice when a heat wave hits the area, though other times in the spring and summer an early tee time might run into fog issues with the first two holes which are the highest part of the course. Speaking of the first two holes - what a tough start for the men! 400yd par 4 straight up hill followed by a tight downhill then uphill dogleg left par 4. Of course few holes are breathers. Very few flat lies, or wide straight fairways, but I would not call Tilden "tricked up". It is an old fashioned test, and because the course resides in the Berkeley hills it rarely if ever gets sun-baked so fairway and green conditions are great.
Unfortunately it was a hot day
The lady in the pro shop was extremely unfriendly. They were running behind so we had to wait for a cart until our tee time. Play was so slow we played nine holes in 3 1/2 hours due to such a hot day we had to call it quits way to much waiting. With no drink cart. Or marshals to keep play moving smooth.
Challenging mountain course
Tilden is challenging with tight fairways, heavy rough and sharp changes in elevation. Golfers who have trouble staying on the fairway will have trouble posting good scores. I enjoyed the challenge. The course was in good shape and the greens rolled true so once you got there, salvaging a decent number was doable. Would play this course again.
Hi there.. Thanks for the review, did they have any "alternate" tee boxes? I am planning a match with a couple friends flying in from out of town and am hoping this is the place to go to.
Thanks!
