Lionhead Golf and Country Club - Legends

About
The Legends Course at Lionhead Golf & Country Club has been ranked before as one of the toughest golf courses in North America and the club boasts that it is the toughest in Canada. Lionhead Golf & Country Club also offers another, less demanding 18-hole course that is equally entertaining, the Masters. Legends features numerous challenges including vast lakes, cavernous sand bunkers, and tall fescue. The layout winds through a rugged portion of the Credit River Valley with steeply rolling terrain and wooded ravines, providing the golf course with elevated, undulating greens. The eighth is a notable hole, both for its beautiful scenery and its difficulty level. It is a long par 3 over a pond filled with tall bulrushes.

Good but slow.
That was the slowest round of golf to date. 5.5 hours to play 18 holes. Challenging course, not for beginners
I won't be back
First impression......starter was rude. Would not let us take the golf cart to the driving range. Held us up for no good reason.....just not friendly at all. Golf course charges for range balls....at this price point you should not be charged for golf balls. Golf course does not take cash....just a strange rule that again is not customer friendly (why would you limit how you get paid). Some holes had aerated greens........this should have been communicated before we teed off. Bottom line the policies and attitudes at this place do not make you feel like they care about the customer or the customer experience. Maybe this comes from management......I won't be back. If I am going to spend my hard earned money to golf I want the place to at least act like they care that I have chosen their course.
Not worth the money
Played the legends and was very disappointed with the course conditions.
Seems to me this course will be turned into housing in the near future because there not spending money on the course.
Don't recommend and won't play again.
Wow..Things sure changed
I remember when this place's philosophy was that it was a private club experience for everyone..
Well they sure got rid of that credo. Staff were indifferent at best,. It was complete chaos trying to get to the tee. Maybe put a starter on the first tee to explain the course., welcome you etc.
Course was slow from the start waiting 10 minutes on every tee, people playing tee's they had no business playing. If you can't hit a drive 200 yards why they heck are you playing the blue tee's??? Of course no marshalls to keep things moving.. but a load of cart girls..can't miss out on a profit opportunity.
The course itself was in ok shape. It had rained the day before, so some wet was expected, but sme of the fairways were saturated. The greens were mediocre, they were true, but slow, full of ball marks and patchy. The sand is horrible, to much like sandbox sand and grass clipping all over the fairway. The layout is ok, but too many similar holes and too many forced lay-ups if you play the whites (Blue's were almost the same...The signae from hole to hole was horrible. Maybe turn the signs towards you so you can actually read them.
Overall disappointing, this place used to be the moel for a top notch public course, they set the standard when they opened. Obviously profit and tournament golf i their focus and if that's there choice, then fine, it is what it is, just don't expect myself or anyone I know to play it again there are several courses in te GTA that are much better value for your money. Oh well, I am sure it won't be long until it' gone, with house replacing it.
Great challenge!
The Legends course is a challenging layout that lured me back several times during my 8 week stay in Toronto. I had to hit every shot in the bag and pull off some good sand saves to get under 90. Most mis hits are punished with lateral hazards, which tends to slow the pace. Not a course I would recommend to newer players. The Masters course may suit them better. Some of the toughest uphill approaches I've ever played. Lost a few balls, but worth it! Course was in excellent shape. Friendly staff.
We hope to see you again when you are back in Toronto! Thanks!
Has seen better days
I used to play Legends 6 or 7 times a year, however this year only once so far. They have reversed the order of the nines for some reason, the signage is confusing now. Several paths are blocked off. The Greens were in poor shape with bare patches and dozens of divot marks. It looked like people had been dancing around the holes with golf shoes. I saw the Marshall once during my 5:00 hour fourteen holes. That's right, left after 13 and that's how slow it was. Told the cart server several times how slow it was, but they couldn't do anything. The group in front of us needed to be moved up a hole at least. A general lack of concern by the course. It seems like the Marshalls are their for free golf and little else. A real shame because this used to be a really good course. Not worth$50, let alone $90.
We switched the 9s to speed up play. Does not seem like it is working. We will have to reevaluate and concentrate on Marshalls doing their job.
Lionhead
First time at this course. Was in excellent condition. Very challenging but enjoyable to play
Horrible experiences
The staff over booked the course for its pace of Play. We waited every hole, got so frustrated with the wait, we left after 9 holes.
Not worth the frustrated.
If the ownership really cared about thier guests this would never happen.
Signature Hole Ruined
Regrettably, Kaneff has decided to mess with its "signature hole". First, it wisely "flipped" the front-nine to the back-nine and vice-versa. That made sense as the former #1, significantly slowed golfers off the first tee as it was an elevated tee with water/marsh hazard on the valley landing area.It was a good business decision. However, when they removed all of the tee-boxes except for the "Pro/Champion", and moved the remaining tees to the valley, it made this hole unworthy of a signature branding. It's a short layup to the edge of the Credit River and and medium length drive to the green. Stupid.
Thanks for the feedback. We switched the 9"s to speed up pace of play. In regards to our signature all tees except the Red's are below. Sometimes whites will go down below also. Maybe this was one of those days.
Top Drawer Course
One of the stronger layouts in the Greater Toronto Area. Always a treat to play. It is definitely a golfer's golf course. Anything less than your A game and you won't score well.
Staff is very friendly and the food lately is excellent.
Thanks for the feedback. Agreed!
You too can play Lionhead Legends in Six Hours
The round was scheduled for 10:21am, it finally started at 10:43am at 1st tee, it progressed normally until 9th hole, where I booked another round for 4:03pm.
The back nine seemed to more slowly to the point where we finished at 4:08pm
I hustled to get going on my second round without a break, The second round took 4.5 hours, which is what would be expected.
No marshals moving things along, seen one marshal once on both rounds.
The staff seem not to care about my nearly six hour round, like it was a normal experience and didn't warrant an apology or anything else.
This is not a premier golf facility in my eyes. The course however is in great shape and is a real test, no complaints about the course
JP, Georgetown, Canada

I'm updating my own posting.
I did comment to Lionhead directly and I was not expecting any great response, however ......
I did receive a response from John D., who took my comments on board and will speak with all concerned to see what lessons can be learned. John D. even provided a complimentary round, which is way more than I was expecting (maybe a discount or a free burger/coke at best).
So, Lionhead has stepped up to the plate and does value their customers and customer comments
EARLY GOLF
Course in descent shape for the weather..still soggy in spots on the fair weather. Greens in good shape for this time of year.
Early April round
The Legends is the better of the 2 courses at Lionhead, the Master's is cheesy - weird hole designs.
Always a decent course but for some reason always very wet. It's early in the season but even in the middle of the summer after a day of rain, you can find a fair bit of standing water. It seems the course has a drainage problem, ironic since it's owned by a land developer that
build residences.
Yesterday was no exception, it was standing water practically everywhere on the course. They really didn't clean up the many branches around. It was also cart path only which really slows down play at this course because of the layout. It's early spring so understandable but for $90 one should expect a prepared course. It's not worth that money yet.
Mainly clay based, tough to drain
Good Golf Course.
This is a great golf course. Played Legends, on the score card it says, Canada's most challenging course.
Staff is very friendly.
Thanks, those small greens and narrow fairways can challenge the best golfers!
Good test of golf
Great service at bag-drop as they put your bag on a cart with your name on it. Starters were friendly.
Course conditions were pretty good considering the rain we had the last couple of days. Tee boxes were in bad shape - lots of divots. Fairways were somewhat soft (despite it having rained two days ago) so it was cart path only the entire round. Greens rolled true and well struck shots didn't bounce off the green, but lots of foot traffic. This time of year, I don't think they cut and roll the greens as often as the summer. Played in 4.5 hours as a three-some, and kept up with the two-some ahead of us. Cart Path only rule was making it slow for everyone.
Love the challenge of the Legends. A good mix of draw and fades are needed and every club in the bag is used. Par 5's are reachable but Par 4's are long and challenging - so it's important to control the flight of your golf ball. Greens can be tricky in some spots. I'll continue to play here every year.
Thanks, will send this off to the Pro at Lionhead.
