Lionhead Golf and Country Club - Legends

About
The Legends Course at Lionhead Golf & Country Club has been ranked before as one of the toughest golf courses in North America and the club boasts that it is the toughest in Canada. Lionhead Golf & Country Club also offers another, less demanding 18-hole course that is equally entertaining, the Masters. Legends features numerous challenges including vast lakes, cavernous sand bunkers, and tall fescue. The layout winds through a rugged portion of the Credit River Valley with steeply rolling terrain and wooded ravines, providing the golf course with elevated, undulating greens. The eighth is a notable hole, both for its beautiful scenery and its difficulty level. It is a long par 3 over a pond filled with tall bulrushes.

Lionhead Legends
Pace of play is abysmal. Marshalls were non existent on back nine. People in front of us were ridiculous. Waited for people in front of them to be on green before they would tee off on par 4s and 5s. Course is very difficult. Too many hackers playing this track. They should play a course they can manage. Tees are not in good shape. Greens and fairways were decent.
Playing Time Eaters
The Course was wonderful but the 4 sum guys ahead of us played like beginner's. They kicked the ball like soccer with clubs. The Legend course is not easy, over 7 thousand yards long. They might don't know regular play time.
Slower than slow
Now listen - I have played my fair share of slow golf courses. This, however, was about the pace of a tortoise...that had its legs removed. 3 hours to play the front nine is NOT ACCEPTABLE. Was very disappointed after hearing good things about the course. Will not be returning.
Tough feedback but will let the team know.
Great Recommend
Awesome great golf with my best friend! I loved the par 5 at back course. I will try to play this course coming this Friday again and get birdie!
Slow again
Pace of play very slow. No marshalls seen anywhere on course
Father's Day heat
This course has some holes that I don't care for, 2,6, and 16 but other than that it's quite good. It's very tough, and was in nice condition. They have changed the 9's around which makes good sense. The hole that used to be #1 was to difficult for a starting hole and made for slow play right off the start. Over the years as the trees have matured the course has gotten much tighter. They need to cut some trees down and cut others back in order for the course much more playable.
Brutal pace of play
Teed off at 9:36 Sat am - Incredibly slow - Took 1 hour to play 3 holes. Called Proshop for refund as its no fun playing a 6 hour round. Staff was excellent in providing us with a rain check and we quit and went in for a pint.
Changing the front and back nines does not make sense - yes the 1st hole is now easier than the 10th but the 2nd and 3rd are tough holes and really slow things down. The 10th is a tough starting hole but the 11th, 12th etc are pretty easy and I've never had issues at Lionhead with extreme slowness until now. Please consider switching it back. Also, it would help if signs were on the tees that told what yardages were to hazards ie include distance to creek hazard on 2 and 3 tee blocks. Could also use marshalls on 2 and 3 to get things moving. Great course just needs to be sped up.
Terrible shape
For the price they are charging the course was in terrible shape. The bunkers were so bad.
We will send this to our greens crew! Thanks for the feedback.
Aerated greens
I booked legends and found out at the course the greens were just aerated 2 days before so we switched to the Masters course but paid for the Legends course. We should have been notified before hand of that and been offered some type of reimbursement
Disappointed
Greens at Lionhead Legends were in the worst shape I have seen them since the course opened for play. Had been punched a month ago and many still not well recovered. Slow and patchy in many spots. I know it's fall but many bunkers full of leaves. Just not up to the usual Lionhead standard.
Tough feedback. Will send this right to our Superintendent Peter.
Thanks
Course
The weather was great.
For the most part the course is in good shape except for the bunkering, which from storms over the past months have little or no sand in them, with landscape cloth and roots visible on some
They need to renew the sand, remove the big stones and maintain the course
Other than this, the rest is OK
Thanks, we have a bunker rebuilding program starting this fall. Also worked with the course architect to start filling in some of the bunkers that are not used.
Great course
The legends at Lionhead is a very challenging course. If forces you to double think your shot and club selection. Remember to bring extra golf balls as this is not a forgiving course.
I would definitely play it again
A-1 Golf Course
A top notch public course that is always a pleasure to play. One small complaint is that we did not see the beverage cart for the entire back 9. Being that it was over 30 degrees celsius, we suffered as a result. This should not happen on a course of this level.
It is a challenge trying to promote new golfers and at the same time try and give feedback on the rules of golf. Ready golf and pace of play, to bunker raking and divot replacing. We need more help from some of the governing bodies of golf!
