Roy Kizer Golf Course

Greens were covered seemingly in sand (or being overseeded), but either way it made putting accurately an impossible adventure. Ant hills all over the course. Muddy around the greens from over-watering.

Just a disappointing day for what is typically an OK place to play. Won't be rushing back.

The course was terrible shape, they just over seeded and there was no warning from the club house or the website. The staff are all dicks.

I've loved this course for years, it's a great layout and always in good or excellent condition. It's a great value for the money. The course has enough challenge for me as an 85-to-95 range golfer. The pace of play can be a little slow on weekends but the last two times I was there on a weekend we wrapped up in 4.5 hours or better, so fine in my book. The beverage service on the course is not great, we only saw the beverage cart once per round the last two times, on warm weekend days, so pack some fluids in your golf bag so you don't dehydrate out there.

I hadn’t played the Roy Kizer course in over ten years, and had completely forgotten how much I enjoyed the layout. The course conditions were stellar as well, and the greens rolled beautifully. The only negative I can offer is the almost complete lack of on-course service - we saw the beverage cart only once (on the tee box at Hole #2) during our 4.5-hour round, and it was a hot, humid and sticky afternoon. There was no water available on the course, and during the back nine I literally became desperate to hydrate. I finally called the pro shop to inquire whether any beverage cart service was forthcoming, and was informed that such service was handled by a separate business, and not the City of Austin, as is the Roy Kizer/Jimmy Clay golf complex. I was walking this round with my push cart, and was beginning to feel dangerously in need of some water. We finally came upon the Marshall on #13, and I only half-jokingly told him that the.course might have a medical emergency on its hands, and subsequently a lawsuit resulting from the lack of water availability on a City of Austin facility. He was a nice guy, and clearly sympathetic to this clearly exhausted and potentially fatally dehydrated 70-year old golfer walking his course. He offered to bring me something to drink, drove away, and returned in five minutes with a bottle of GatorAde. I gratefully handed him a $5.00 bill, told him to keep the change, and thanked him profusely. I was then able to comfortably finish the round, and despite the water shortcomings of this course, I will not wait ten years again to play Roy Kizer….

This course is still a favorite of mine. Besides water on a few holes, it’s a great course to tee it high and let it fly. If you miss the fairway, there’s a good chance you’ll be in another fairway. Great course to shoot low and or work on your swing. My only two gripes: the price and the greens. A couple years ago you could get a tee time for $40, now it’s $60 and the greens are bad. Bald spots, the greens are too long and not well maintained. The greens can be much better.

Average day at the golf course. Tee to green was in pretty good shape, but the greens were in lousy shape. The greens had as much sand as the bunkers. Pace of play was surprisingly quick for a muni on Sunday afternoon, but I'm sure it was because most people already knew about the problem with the greens. We were warned before our round that our cart might not make the full round. Sure enough, it quit on us after 11 holes. The good news is we have learned to lower our expectations at Clay/Kizer.

Other than the greens, the course is in excellent conditions. The greens have a lot of dead spots.
