Great Course
Very nice course and great value. Greens were in good shape, very scenic for an inexpensive course
not for beginners
This course is gorgeous to say the least. The drawbacks dont begin until you get to the " nature protected" holes. Every one seems to be designed to roll off into the bullrushes and ruin your day, and even if you barely roll off the edge you are not permitted to play your shot or even retrieve your ball. For a chunk of land where they have completely obliterated nature over miles of earth they sure do cause a fuss about lightly stepping in the teeny tiny bit they left alone. If you can send every shot on target I could imagine it being a lovely day on the links but beginners beware. If you have a tendency to slice you can expect to lose a good number of balls and end your game depressed and feeling like you may never golf again. My advice is to start some where more user friendly and only attempt this death trap when you can drive dead straight 100% of the time
New 9 is not the best
Doon is always a good value because it's priced well. Would be better if they had 3, 9 hole courses instead of a 9 and an 18
course is in good shape
pace of play was pretty good, I still think the new holes on the other side of the 401 are a little too tough to play for weekend hackers especially if its windy
Opinion
Everything is not bad. When I came to Doon at 2:40PM so early, one of officer(Pro Shop desk) was allowed to play at 1:00PM. that was very good and kind.
Excellent course
This is very good course. Definitely, it's good for the money.
New and mostly improved!
It was a great day, the course is beautiful and it's in great condition! Greens, fairways and rough are well kept!
If you're not normally a walker I recommend using a cart. I walked it and it was fine but for a lot of holes there is a long walk between --> Most notable of these are between 2-3, 4-5, 5-6, 7-8, and 15-16. However, the benefit of this is the course is that it's more challenging because you'll now lose a ball instead of ending up on the fairway of another hole if you shank it. (For the most part)
The course doesn't come back to the clubhouse for hole 9. This can go both ways, it may help or hinder pace of play depending on who is in front of you. I didn't have a problem with it but when there is a slow group the best place to ask if you can get ahead of them is usually after the 9th hole but you won't get that on this course.
There was one hole, I think it's 14... (18 hole course) that got A LOT wider. They moved the thick stuff back at least 20 yards from where I remember (on the right) and it was already wide enough to begin with... this hole must be 125 -150 yards wide! No pressure but you shouldn't miss a drive here :P
Hope this helps, it's definitely a course worth playing!
This course is forgiving, with tons of natural challenges
While the majority of holes are forgiving, this 18 hole course has protected natural areas, which served to tighten-up the out of bound areas.
course was in great shape
Nice course, plays long ,lots of water and traps, fescue everywhere.
Doon GC
Course was in good shape. We don't like the new holes on the other side of the 401 as much as we liked the old 18 hole layout. The environmental area around the new holes is the cause of a lot of lost balls and slow play.
Best value in Kitchener-Waterloo
We had a great round. The course is very scenic and challenging, yet rewarding. The staff were very friendly and we even were given water by the marshal as he drove around. Great value for the money.
great featuires
great course for the money, always in good shape and well taken care of
Great bang for your buck
Some of the new holes are quite challenging with narrow fairways, challenging but fair course
Excellent for a municipal course
Kitchener is very lucky to have a city course such as this! Plenty long, with lots of teeth on many of the holes. Can't wait to play it again
Doon 18 holes
Really liked the old 18 holes course better than this one. The 9 hole course has some classic holes that were removed from the 18 hole option when the course was re-designed a few years ago. The 9 hole course is a great course at a good price. This 18 course is also good but forces you to play more target and lay up strategies than I would like. Some holes have tight fairways with unusual out of bounds on far side of 401. All 27 holes are in a great location next to grand river and include some very picturesque holes.
Great deal
We had the course almost completely to ourselves and it was great. Mid-afternoon on a hot, windy and humid day - kept the other golfers away.
Course was in great shape and is really pretty. Naturalized areas make it a fairly hard course.
Got a great deal on GolfNow.
Way over priced for a public course
Played all 27 holes on Friday. Some holes absolutely ridiculous carries over hazards off the tees, and everything off the fairways are environmentally friendly areas and you are not even allowed to walk into the area to try to find your ball. I am not the straightest hitter, but losing 6 balls in 6 holes takes all the fun out of the game. After playing 18 we expected a break on the cost of the extra 9, but that did not happen and $33.50 for 9 holes with a cart after paying $55.50 for the first 18 was totally ridiculous. When we mentioned this to the person behind the desk he laughed and said that is the rate, do you want to play or not!! Definitely do not recommend this course to anyone, ever!! Much better and nicer courses in the area for much less cost.
Back nine very tough
Good value with golfnow.greens were slow, but back nine holes were very tough/narrow through conservation area,I played from tips. Not for lousy golfers
Great round
Challenging course with a great layout. We walked and thought it was a little long between some holes
New layout- get a cart!
I hadn't played here for some time (we used to play fairly often in our teens). Another 9 holes added via the marsh and floodplain... not just added as a 3rd set of 9, but incorporated into a new layout... Sort of screwy as you play a grassy, tree lined dogleg par 4... then a couple of (tough) marsh holes, then back up a hill for another long grassy, tree lined par 4..?
Course was in pretty good shape, not too busy and we enjoyed it... for the price... (honestly, not worth regular green fees)
Get a cart- lots of walking.
