Great challenge
Great course visually ,set in picturesque Doon Valley.Bring extra balls,as fairways are narrow and straight shots a must.Strayed shots are penalized often ,as water areas invade from both sides.Greens are very receptive and roll true.A test of accuracy and distance required to score well.
Oddly yet interestingly laid out!
I enjoyed playing the round very much. The layout is quite interesting - the 9th does not end at the clubhouse, you have to walk under the highway to access 6 (?) holes on the other side, there are a couple of really long walks in between many holes, and all the while you catch glimpses of the Grand River meandering along. It is also set amidst environmentally sensitive areas, so all in all it is a bit more about being accurate than being long. The course is well maintained, the greens are not too fast, and the staff is friendly. All in all I would recommend playing it when you want to get in a round at a decent pace.
This course is generally fine but this last time
We got stuck behind a small tournament; brutally slow; no marshal in sight all day; finally saw him on 17 & I'm fairly sure he had been sipping pints all day in the shade somewhere!!!
Doon Valley a rediculous walk
Yesterday I played Doon Valley for the second time since the additions occured several years ago. For someone who practically grew up at the course and always enjoyed it, I was once again disappointed. The addition of the new 9 holes to the exisiting course was a big mistake. The holes are rediculously laid out and far apart which make walking this course a mistake!! There are 5 or 6 huge walks between holes.... which is super inconvenient to maintain a fast pace of play. Several of the new hole designs are very poorly laid out and seem to be 'squeezed into' the exisiting space, with narrow landing areas and small diagonal greens. When you combine the poor layout with the 'naturalized areas' that cover the new holes (where you can't go in to look for a ball 10 ft off the fairway) Doon Valley has transformed from a great mature layout to a difficult walk of unoriginal, poorly designed holes. Even though I shot a really good score, I am glad I only paid $13 on GolfNow for my 18 holes and will certainly not be in a rush to return.
Twilight Value
Prepaid "Hot Deal", combined with twilight cart rates made play affordable for under $30 total. Wish other courses would do the same.
Bring lots of golf balls
A lovely course if you're a hiker or bird watcher, but frustrating if you're a mid to high handicapper. "Naturalized" area closely lines many of the fairways and greens and/or must be carried from several tees and fairways. Without perfect accuracy you will lose many golf balls and gain strokes. Drop areas are plentiful and well used. Bring lots of balls!
slow play/useless marshals
We booked through golfnow. 2some with cart and it took us over 4 1/2 hours to play. Groups refused to let us through and marshals just drove around and we're more concerned about looking for stray golf balls then keeping pace up.
Frustrating to say the least
Challenging yet Fair Par 72
A challenging yet fair Par 72 which requires you to think strategy before attempting to conquer this course. If you place the ball in the right areas there are several opportunities to go low even for the beginner or amateur. The course has a fair mix of par 4's and 5's along with tight par 3's. The shorter par 4's can tempt one to go for the green, however, the narrow apporaches require tremendous accuracy or there is sure death. The holes on the other side of the 401 are tough because of the conservation area and this makes it very tricky. Overall a super expereince with friendly staff and great weekday value for money.
Memorable public course
It's a very well hidden course that seems surrounded by wilderness. It's hard to believe you are in the city still, and how large it is.
Front 9 was a lot of tight fairways but minimal in terms of other hazards.
Back 9 seemed more forgiving. All the greens were relatively flat so it wasn't too hard on new players.
Not too much in terms of water on any holes.
Interesting elevations.
This course is very challenging for the beginner. We walked the course twice now and it's a great way to get your exercise.
Very slow play.
Only completed 15 holes with lots of waiting. Would be great to see a marhal on the course to speed up play.
Course itself was well worth the money and wonderful enjoyment factor. Only problem was booking online with Golf Now due to technical problems.

Wouldn't go back!!!
We quit after 7 holes as there was 2 groups waiting at each hole.
We did not see a marshal. Bad experience!
Great course and scenery
For the price I was expecting an average course, but was surprised as haved payed much more for courses that were not as well maintained and having nice scenery as this one.
Good Value for the Price
Good Value for the Price. Difficult to walk, long distances between green to tee deck. Poor layout not near the clubhouse after 9.
Slow greens and no one to pace players.
If you like fast greens as I do you won't like these. Very slow with no consistency resulting in more putts but the main issue was pace of play. No marshall seen on course to move along the ones with no etiquette on keeping it moving. Wait and wait and wait. When a players assistant did drive up around hole 12, he blamed it on this group 3 or 4 ahead who had 2 open holes ahead of them but did nothing.
This happened last time also so I won't be back.
Very Narrow
Was an okay course but really unforgiving. Can't search for lost balls as it is all protected land. My 14yr old wont go back. He didn't enjoy it there.
