The course is fun to play and varies between old and new.
Doon Valley is a challenging course withn a mixture of old established holes and new almost wilderness holes. The rough is tough with stiff penalties
New holes are target golf
The new holes are target golf. Very penal if you miss.. makes for a long day. Good shape but tough walk. I miss some of the older holes that are on the 9 hole section.
Its come a long way in a short time !
The 18 hole course that you play out of the 27 has come along quite nicely since the redesign and addition of all the new holes. I wasn't a huge fan of the course initially but since it has filled in more its quite simply a course with rewards when your hitting it straight. Most of the greens are crowned so attacking the pin can get you in trouble !
Good Value with a bit of everything!
We like golfing at this course for many reasons. For a public course it is well maintained. You get a bit of everything water, sand, trees, rough.. and you end up going through all of your clubs and irons with the variety of distance and precision throughout the holes.
Great Course with Natural and Manmade surroundings and views.
the course is fantastic with some really challenging holes like # 8, # 14.
The 18 hole course offers lots of variety, in fairways, greens, etc.
I like the changes in distances on the white tees. Makes the course more playable and enjoyable.
Doon Valley's new holes continue to become more mature, making the course more difficult than it used to be, but still enjoyable.
As a city of Kitchener run facility, Doon offers good value for a course that is set up fairly well and challenges beginners and intermediates alike.
The only beef would be that pace of play was helter skelter. The marshall should have done a better job, moving smaller groups past larger groups that were taking too much time to play a hole.
Otherwise, a good day on the course.
Needs watering- very dry and hard in the fairways
Very hard conditions- fairways were in moderate condition. No complaints about the greens. T-Blocks need a little TLC. Played this course many of times, actually liked the old 18 a lot more. Course needs to recommend that kids under 10 need to play pitch and putt, Had to tell a family that they were in potential danger on # 10. They were actually playing in the water on the right hand side for about 10 minutes, drove our balls and went to hit our second shot with them still in the water.... first time I have ever experienced this on a golf course
Give it time
The new holes are getting better with age. They are maturing and softening year after year. In a few years these will be great golf holes. For now it can be a frustrating round, with different green conditions on everyother hole and in consistant fairways i dont look forward to returning this year.
Really wish I could just play the old course as it was!
some very difficult holes from the tips
this is a public course which is a great deal for the price. it is a well maintained course and in the last few years has been upgraded substantially. these new holes are still growing in but make the course more challenging. for a publicly owned course you can't beat it.
A long walk between some of the holes.
Very scenic along the Grand River at both ends of the golf course, but the noise from the tractor trailers on the 401 gets to be annoying on the holes along the highway. May I suggest earplugs?
Will not come back again.
Too difficult to walk. Service is minimal. Used to be a nice course after expansion now it is not! Condition is poor.
The old course set-up was better!
The course conditions were overall good, but the new holes opened in 2011(?) need more maturing. Lots of long walks between several holes.
Great day
Golfed with my son. Course was in great shape and the play was steady.
New additions make this a treat to play
The "new" 18 (4-5 holes are historic - rest are new) offers a decent challenge with good, generally wide fairways (new ones are like carpet) and interesting, well maintained greens. Course is well maintained and several naturalized areas make it a treat to play through (lots of water fowl in evidence). Quite walkable. Excellent value ($32 on a Sunday morning!). One of the better muni's I have played.
This course is great but maintenance required.
The course is beutiful and challeging.
The fairway green is not bad now, but in dry season, the fairway is going to be very hard. And green is too bad , slow.
I enjoyed that course, but I can't recommend this to my friends.
Great value
Challeging layout, very good shape, excellent value
Slow
Absolutely rediculous speed of play, no sign of any marshal's on the course.
It really takes the enjoyment out of the game when you have to wait on each tee, sometimes 3 groups on one tee.
