Fall round
For a fall round it was a good time, some damage to the greens. I have played this course in the summer months and I have found in the fairways and the rough that the ground is very hard, hard enough that it is difficult to get under the ball as some points my club bounces off the ground it’s that hard. This doesn’t happen on all holes, mainly the front nine. But great value for the price, I will play there again. The staff is always friendly and the never had a issue with pace of play they are always on top of it.
Horrible Conditions
Absolutely brutal conditions, fairways all mud, greens in horrible shape
- Golfer who has golfed a lot and 10 handicap
A lot of fairways are dirt
Disappointed with course. Most tee boxes are dirt. A lot of fairways on front nine are dirt. Waiting on every shot on every hole. Greens rolled nice but overplay and golfers not fixing divots results in a bumpy ride.
Used to be above average course but now, below average.
Steer Clear!!
This course was so dry that most of the fairways were dirt. There were dead patches on almost every green. It looked like they hadn't watered some areas all summer. Even at a good price it was a big disappointment.
Very poor conditions
Played twilight here. A number of holes have very poor greens, dead and no grass. Fairways are very dry. Clearly they are not watering the course and on the greens they may have over fertilized it leading to dead patches.
Probably won’t play here again this year
Pretty Horrible
This course and bowmanvile have to be the worst you can get by far. They must have the same owner or something. Everything neglected and unplayable. Would not go back even if it was free.
Hi,
I’ve played this course many times and have had great experiences. They have a very steady flow of business and many happy customers whenever I play! Maybe you were having a bad day but I’m sure they’re not upset from losing your business. Open tee time for me!
Rough shape
Love Newcastle one of my favourite courses to play as I was a long time member growing up there but it’s in the worst condition I have ever seen. Fairways and rough are dead and felt like hitting off the cart path and the greens were all chewed up like someone was wearing spikes. Sand traps were awful. Sorry guys course has gone downhill in my opinion.
Despicable
Had played this course a couple times in the past and was never a fan. But after today will NEVER go back. WARNING - The photos uploaded on the side are FAKE nowhere does the course / layout look like that. Walking up to the pro shop noticed the flag out on the 9th and the green completely destroyed. Pro shop attendant lied to my face when I asked if work was being done that day on the greens and said "just 1 or 2 holes". Blatant liar as every single green was in absolute pitiful shape, the WORST Aeration job I have EVER seen (pictured below). on top of that the fairways were littered in leafs and debris, and hard as a rock. Course grass not cut properly and impossible to find a ball. Every time you hit the fairway dirt flew like it landed in a bunker or something. And just when you think it couldn’t get worse, there are HUGE tree roots everywhere, lying just below the surface INCLUDING the middle of the fairways. At best you will hurt your wrist/hands just once, but more likely multiple times or completely break it before the back nine especially if you have any competency hitting a ball (which includes taking a small divot).
Newcastle
Greens were in excellent shape, however, the fairways were not. Fairways were very patchy. Have played here many times and for the money, the course is well worth a visit.
Worst shape in 20 plus years!
I play this course at least once per year. But this is the worst I have ever seen this course.
slowplay
prepare for a 5hr round. Slow play and no marshalls to speed it up. Greens fast and hard. Fairways rough in spots and hard.,
Want A Challenge?????
Holy Challenge!!!!!!!
You have to do yourself a favor and come more than once. Like a lot of Stanley Thompson courses, which this is not, there are very few flat spots on the course.
With INCREDIBLE GREENS, this course is a challenge for any and everybody. The staff was extremely accommodating and even lent me his pair of shoes that I had forgotten at home, THANK YOU FABIAN.
The beverage cart staff were quick and very pleasant to deal with, having the remote debit machine made life easier for purchases.
The club house was quaint and the food was tasty and for the portion, GREAT VALUE.
Remember your landing zones and pay attention to the contours of the fairways. The greens were running at about a 12 this day. The weather was fair but HOT and most of the courses I have played this year are dry and burnt. When this course recovers from this years drought, IT WILL BE FANTASTIC!!!!
All in all......Bang for buck The best course in the Bomanville area BY FAR.
GO PLAY IT!!!!!!!!
Much Improved
The rain in the past couple of weeks has significantly helped this course. Played early in the morning so the greens for a bit slow start because of the morning dew.
I will play this course again.
Dry Fairways and Dry Staff
Started off the day with unfriendly pro shop staff, who didn't seemed pleased that we were there to golf. Played the front 9 in 3.5 hours behind a tournament and some junior members, so the pace was very slow. No marshalls in sight to push up the pace as we saw the tournament ahead of us hitting a combined 6 or 7 balls. Also no beverage cart to help ease my frustration. After hitting the 4 hour mark on the 11th tee, we decided to cut our losses and head home. As for the course itself, the fairways were very dry and some of the back tee blocks were very poorly maintained, with one tee having no grass between the blocks and shooting blindly over some hedges. Overall, a very disappointing course and a very disappointing day for golf.
nice way to spend a day on a golf course
The fairways were not in good shape at all.
The greens were in excellent shape and the back 9 is very challenging and very interesting to play.
I have played this course earlier in the season and the fairways were in far better condition. The hot spiel that we are having may have caused the fairways problems.
A great day!
My only criticism is that it was the fairways were very dry....an I expect by Monday they will be burnt totally if they don't water. The greens were in great shape and a real challenge.
Good course
Early in the season and their doing lots of work to the course i.e new cart paths. Would recommend to anyone who likes a challenge.
Regardless of the lack of water, the course is in general disrepair.
It is in VERY POOR condition and not worth the money
Hi just a friendly reply,
I’ve played the course many times and have spoken to various staff members. The course is on protected land by the government for the green belt. They do water the course but have a limited supply to the amount of water they can pull without receiving a large. If it is a dry summer, they will have some dyer areas just as you would with your lawn.
Hope this clarifies things!
