Thundering Waters Golf Club
About
Thundering Waters Golf Club, so named for its proximity to the Canadian Horseshoe Falls, has a unique layout that combines a parkland course with the tricky elements of a heathland golf course. There is an interesting combination of drivable par 4s and scenic par 3s that will provide a formidable test for even the most skilled players. The golf course first winds through heavily wooded patches and then finds its way to rugged hills dotted with thick fescue where true links-style holes with deep bunkers and large, undulating greens await you. The layout also features several doglegs and more than 100 bunkers strategically placed throughout. Water hazards come into play on 10 holes. Thundering Waters Golf Club was Canada's first John Daly signature golf course.

Beautiful course.
all was perfect except for a 3 some in front of us that were slow.
NO MARSHALL ON COURE TO MAKE A COMPLAINT AND HAVE SLOW PLAYERS MOVE ON.
Nice Course
Very nice course and staff. The GPS on our cart failed a few times. When this happened it was difficult as there were no other markers for yardages.
It was a rainny day.......
We began with a 1 hour (heavy) rain delay. We were told that no rain checks would be issued because we booked a "hot" tee-time with Golfnow. As a result, we decided to play in light rain, which stopped after 5 holes.
The course was very wet in spots, and played long from the blues although it was only 5800 yards. Cart path only, made it even more challenging. To our surprise, the greens drained well and played quite fast. The fairways were green and well kept.
I played here some years ago. I noticed some changes were made to accommodate housing and make the course more playable. I did find it a bit easier to play, especially the first couple of holes.
I would play here again, but will make sure it's a nice sunny day!!!
Great Course for the Price
Our twosome came from Markham and had an early 07:30 tee time. We were given the opportunity to go out alone and completed the round in 3.5 hours - which was fantastic. The course was in great shape. If there one recommendation - the addition of 100, 150 & 200 yard markers would make it more enjoyable out there on the course.
We came from Markham,
Unfair layout
Course was in good condition. They must have ran out of real estate when they built this one. Every green is almost in the way of every tee box for the next hole. Poor layout Always feel your in the way. No directional signs. Easy to get hit
This course has great features
This course has a lot of good view, all green and fairways are very good condition
Hope to play it again!
Thundering Waters seems to have a bad rep locally, but in actuality, it is a very good course. I play all over the Niagara Peninsula, and it is in as good a shape as any. On a Monday morning, there were tons of maintenance workers out there, all very respectful of us golfers. Because of some lost land due to residential development, the course has a few quirky holes on the front nine. But that really only meant that there were a few birdie opportunities, with 2 par 5s, that should be par 4s. Lots of variety of holes, quite challenging, greens were firm and contoured, but a good speed for the undulations, so very fair. All in all, a good experience.
Dont know why so many bad reviews
First off I played on a Thursday morning. Starter got me off as a single 25 minutes before my tee time as it was dead. Staff very friendly. Great deal from golfnow as a hot deal. Course is very easy in my opinion. Very short. I played the black tees after the starter recommended I play blue tees. I would have played Daly tees but they were not in and a couple of holes I don't know where they would have been. Very short par 5's as every one reachable for me and some by hitting driver and then 8 iron. I played in just over 3 hrs. Course conditions were really good except for the bunkers. Some were under repair and then others were really hard and wet but there was a lot of rain the day and night before so I was expecting wet bunkers. Greens were in really great shape. I would play this course again for sure but I would want to play from farther back. I can see why there are some slow rounds because the course is really short and you may have to wait on shots. I did not see any of this but once again I played during the week and in the am. I played an extra 9 holes due to playing so fast. Course charged me 27 bucks replay rate and that was ok even though I played 9. I payed like 70 bucks total to play 27 holes with cart. I will be back for sure.
I don't know how this place has gotten so many bad reviews.
Wow. I was hesitant to play this course due to so many bad reviews. Boy am I glad I ignored them and have it a shot. First off let me say I played on a Thursday morning so weekends could be different but I enjoy mid week golf over weekend anyways. Booked and paid through golfnow as a hot deal for 37 bucks, what a steal. I had a 814 tee time. I showed up at course at 725 and was greeted at bag drop. I them went and parked and went into the pro shop. Not much in the pro shop other then loud mouth stuff so if that is not your taste there is not much for you. They got me out early as a single at 738. There was another single in front of me but that was it. I enjoy playing fast and was worried due to reviews of slow play. Did not have to worry about that at all. Course was in amazing shape, especially due to all the rain that they had the day before and early in the morning today. Only thing was bunkers were hard but due to rain you have to expect that a bit. Course is not very long but it does reward good shots. Greens were perfect. Staff very friendly. Played an extra 9 holes after my quick round of 18. I was done 18 in 3 hrs. The pro shop charged me 27 bucks for replay rate which was a great deal even though I only played 9. 27 holes for like 70 bucks, can't go wrong. I will definitely come back and play this course again. Very nice track.
Don't play this course
Lots of bunkers that were poorly maintained and much too deep to get in and out of comfortably.
Also too many fairway bunkers for the average golfer. I played from the white tees because from the blues it would have beat me up badly and not much fun. Lots of housing construction and kind of rough around the edges. But I must say the fairways and greens were really nice. I would not play it again.
Tee time
It happens all the time when I golf there and I never learn. They need to stop booking tee times every 5 mins because it gets way to backed up on the first tee and throughout the course. I didn't tee off untill 40 mins after my scheduled tee time.
Better condition than most
Many of the local courses have suffered from the harsh winter with turf damage to fairways and greens. I was pleasantly surprised to find the course in excellent condition.
Normally the pace of play is slow, given the 6 Par three holes. However, this time out pace was excellent - not being pushed and not waiting at the next hole tee. Maybe they've learned to pace the first hole tee times better, or were we just lucky today??
thundering waters
enjoy the car is very much and conditions were excellent. They try to pack too many people on course. 5.5 hour round. Yikes
interesting
I was expecting more but it was fun anyways. if you don't hit the ball in the right places it will punish you and things will be very difficult. Risk vs reward factor is very demanding and not worth it unless you are John Daly or hit the ball consistantly like Ben Hogan. The course is not long but well designed for a good challenge.
Many traps & water
Good course, not too long; played 1n 4 hrs;
Must plan your shots as there are many doglegs, traps & water, etc. A good golf course
Great golf experience
My wife and I loved the course. Interesting holes with challenging shots required. The short yardage belies the overall difficulty. Given the time of year the course was in very good shape. A few of the many sand traps were under repair. Greens were slow but true. Shot an eagle on #14!
the course has good features
for only being open for a couple of days it was in reasonable condition the greens were very bumpy but considering the winter we have had in Ontario this year it was still very playable
Really nice course
Played late in the season (Nov 8) but the course was still in really good shape - but wet, as most courses are that time of year. Lots of water in play and really nice sciuptured sand traps. Great GPS on cart - want to go agin next summer.
a must play coarse for every skill level
even though we had to play cart path only because of weather conditions because of the rain the day before .was a pleasure to play fairways were in great shape and greens were near perfect.not a super long coarse ..really but still a challenge to drive on some long holes because of well placed bunkers .coarse is laid out picturous .a real pleasure for any golfer to play
unique course links style with pot bunkers in fairways
the course is truly unique with many fairway pot bunkers requiring precision shot placement.
