Meh
Friendly staff, good pace of play but for $58 "hot deal" I wouldn't return. The course was in less than ideal condition and the tee blocks are a mess. Gold and blue 2-5 yards apart on most holes. Greens have bald spots and there are many brown patches all over the course. Fairways need work and roughs are long but still playable.
shot makers course
The Oaks is not a long course but you need a little course knowledge to be successful. Green were nice but the course was getting dry good for a lot of run.
will be back
Lots of fun !!!
The course is in great condition. Greens, fairways and tees are perfect. Really enjoyed the round.
wonderful condition
First time playing the Oaks this year and I was most impressed.
Greens and fairways were in immaculate shape and the rough was very manageable. Heavy rains over the weekend made the bunkers waterlogged but this was no fault of the maintenance staff. Staff service in the pro shop and restaurant was most professional.
Had great deal on GN as well. Will be back.
Nice layout
Got paired up with nice guys, some were inexperienced and slowed down the play, and the Marshall was a pit on us all game, we weren’t even able to stop after nine cause he rushed us. The course was in ok shape. The greens are amazing and the fairways are rock hard. With golf now hot deal it was worth the 45 min drive, but would not pay full price.
Good course but
Overall good course in excellent condition. What I didn't like were some layout of holes was not good. 4th hole in particular has a tree blocking 3/4 of the green. This should be cut down. The marshal happened to meet us at the green and we discussed the tree. He agreed with me. Other than this hole nice course. I would still play there again.
Love this course
The Oaks is very nicely layed out design...lots of very challenging holes yet well placed shots help keep the score down. If you get the chance to play the Oak of St. George definitely jump at it...You won't be disappointed but you will be challenged !
Tight and challenging course playable for shorter hitters
The course is challenging off the tee if you insist on hitting drivers. I lost several balls on the front nine before I smartened up and started hitting irons off many holes on the back- the course is short enough that driver isn't a must off a lot of tees. Also think the back nine is easier than the front.
The greens were mostly in great shape and rolled true; there were a couple brown spots on one or two holes though nowhere near the hole. The bunkers looked as though they were maintained regularly, it appears they have removed and are in the process of removing some, turning them into grass bunkers.
The pro shop staff and marshall were very accommodating when I turned up late due to my own directional errors, though the course was not busy as it was a Monday.
Overall well worth the Hot Deal price and I will go back again in future.
Great track
The Oaks of St. George is a great track to play. Challenging without being frustrating. The fairways and greens were in excellent shape and contrary to a prior review, the rough was not too long. Several of the holes have fantastic views. The staff go out of their way to be friendly and accommodating. We plan to return.
Pleasant Surprise
Never having played here there were many surprises, some good, some not. First the good - conditioning was a solid positive with fairways, greens, tees all in good shape. The layout and variety of holes was also mostly pleasant and at times very visually striking. Not so good was the cart which stalled out several times and we were later told that was the norm with an outdated fleet of power carts. While there were many very nice, bordering on great holes - there were also some that were awful with either punitive forced carries (8th Par 3) or senseless trees blocking greens (1 and 4 most notably). I could live with the pine guarding the left half of hole one but the 2 trees guarding almost all of the Par 5 4th made no sense. This could be a great hole - especially if the drainage/creek in front was developed as the hazard more so than the trees which should have been long removed. Also disappointing was the uphill Par 5 18th which is set up in a very gimmicky manner forcing a layup in front of a lagoon/pond which feels very unnatural.
Overall the good definitely outweighed the bad and it a course I would like to play again and hope to return to this season.
Need to stay on the fairways ...
Overall was great day, fairways a little dry. Rough is very long. Can’t locate balls.
slow play
I had a tee time of 10:40 yesterday with three other guys. We actually started at 10:30. We thought we could finish by 3. Wrong!
It was very slow. No marshals on course anywhere. One of my group left after 9 hole at 1:15 and other 2 left at 14th hole at three and I left at 3:25 at 16th hole.
There were not many people on the course and seems like nobody care about the pace of play.
Very rough
The rough is outrageous at this course gonoff the fairway even two inches and your losing your ball
