Reviews
Great Course, bring you sand wedge lol
Beautiful golf course. Well laid out. Course management is a must if you want to score well. Challenging greens and bunkers. a must play if your'e in the area
Excellent speed on grees
Found the pace of play excellent, fairways very good shape. Bunker sand hard (lack of rain). Greens good but starting to get beat up due to golfers too lazy to fix ball marks and dragging their feet around the hole
Good course
Course was in great condition, greens were a good speed for a public course. A couple blind tee shots, but it was nice to see a kinda barber pole in the middle of the fairway so you at least knew where you should be aiming. Longer hitters should play the tips as I felt it was a bit short from the middle tees. All in all good layout with a mixture of water hazards and bunkers.
Great Value.
This course is a great layout with both 9 & 18 being challenging with a picturesque view sitting on the balcony after the round enjoying your favourite drink.
nice layout
Had a great day. to bad about the Geese Same problem as most courses in southern Ont.
Great value!
Course has large fairways and lightning fast greens! Very good challenge if you can stay out of the fescue, good opportunity to shoot low. Pace of play was fast just over 4 hours but could have been faster if our group played a little better.
Good but not Great.
This would be a great golf course if it weren't for two things. Before I begin this is a good golf course in good shape and the greens are fast for a public course and very challenging. Lets begin. There is no sand in the bunkers, and there are no hole maps on the score card or tee off areas. They only tell you the yardage. There is a bit of sand and lots of rocks. First bunker shot I took I went to hit behind the ball and plop it on the green. Little did I know is that there is no sand and it is as hard as a rock under the thin layer of sand/rocks. My club bounded off the dirt and rocks and topped the ball and it went flying across the green into another bunker. Same thing in that bunker. Next time I went in a bunker it felt like my feet went deeper in the sand. Oh No. Same thing. Third time I hit it like I was playing off a cart path and picked the ball off without hitting the ground. Now my brand new wedge looks like I have taken a grinder too the bottom. Second thing is that there are no hole maps on the score card and tee off boxes. Since this course has a lot of shape to it, I was hitting beyond hills and did not know what was on the other side. I lost a few golf balls because the hole would go to the left or right and or there would be water. So a lot of the holes you will be hitting blind. If you have never played there don't hit beyond what you can see. One other thing is that you will need a golf cart because the tee boxes are far from each other. This is the fist course I have played where there is no sand in the bunkers and no hole maps anywhere. Two minor things that made me not enjoy my round to the fullest.
Great Course...........BUT
I have nothing bad to say about the course or the staff except the group infront of us was playing very slow( taking both of the carts to each ball and waiting for each member to hit the ball before finding the next ball) not to mention each one of these guys belonged on a small par 3 course. We asked one of the staff members to make contact with the marshall. The marshall came and told us he had spoken to them and they would speed up play or let us play through. NOTHING EVER HAPPENED. We heard the beer girl call in to the clubhouse and TWO more staff members also call in. never did we see the marshall come back to speak with them or us after the first time (hole 3). So on 18 after just shy of SIX hours they guys put thier final shots in and just stand on the green and wave at us and start yelling back at us. They continue to stand on the green for about 5 min taunting us. One of the staff members yells down from the cart drop off and they leave the green. at that point we just picked up our remaining shots and left the course. Our foursome all wanted to go in and see what could be done to maybe help us out, but by that point we all just wanted to leave and get out of there. Wish something would have been done as soon as it was reported. We may play this course again but may be awhile until we do.
fantastic course
Just a beautifully designed course. Very good course overall.
Great layout, great pace, great value!
A beautiful setting, playable for all skill levels. Used to be called it's present name then changed to Loch Ness for a few years and now back to "Hunters Point". Only problem on this course is that 90% of time there will be a wind factor. We got lucky this day with very little to no wind at all. It has many sand hazards and greens can be quite tricky. They manage tee times excellent ensuring a great paced round. Many of the holes are pretty unique with not too many duplicating another. With four sets of tees all handicaps will find theirs. There are many beautiful homes aligning some of the holes but rarely come into play . Be sure to visit their beautiful clubhouse with a wonderful menu. Sit out on the patio area which is strategically placed to watch the 9th and 18th come in. Love this course played may times and this last round was most enjoyable as we got partnered with two guys that made it a great day ... and you can't always say that... thanks again to M. and M.
Carts on path only
Following overnight rain storm, course was very soggy. Carts had to stay on paths. Drainage of course is poor. On dry days, course is 5 star.
Best value links style course
This esthetically pleasing links style course is amazing for value. It's like playing a high end club for one third the cost. Very nice club house over looking 9 and 18 greens with a pond in the middle. One of our favourite golf trips from Toronto, well worth the 1 hour 20 minute drive.
the course fairways are great the greens need some repair
the greens need taken care of. too many divots and no one seems to fix them. almost every green had divots that need repair (which we tried to repair) however too many to fix.
great potential
6 hour found plus poorly maintenance of greens and tee boxes
Best value in ALL of Niagara
In short, this course is a must-play. From staff friendliness to course conditioning to the services and amenities offered, Hunters Pointe delivered on all fronts. Being as busy as they were, the golf shop and outside staff took the time to ensure we felt welcomed. Kudos to the ranger on duty for keeping things moving as we were able to complete our round in just over 4 hours. Bang for your buck personified - what a treat!
Challenging links style course in good conditon ruined by very slow pace of play.
Arrived at the course before our tee time. This review is in two parts both relevant. Our greeting by the pro shop staff was less then cordial bordering on rude. After providing booking name, sales slip was given with a demand to read the bottom and sign it, re enforced verbally that it outlined the course outside alcohol policy. A duplicate copy then provided for the starter identical with the same paragraph on alcohol policy. The bag drop personnel accepted our bags and put them on our cart. We walked in with our cooler bags of water, juice, fruit for the round and placed them in the cart. Our inquiry about number of golfers that day and pace of play was answered with steady since they opened and all golfers were starting on time. Being a twosome we were informed that our partners had not checked in yet but they would be brought out to us if we teed off the first. No problem was our reply. We then travelled a short distance to the first tee and were met by a pleasant starter who confirmed the pin placement, general course conditions. While talking with him he received a call that the other two players in our group had arrived and were on their way out. The first hole is a long par 4 with a creek cutting across the fairway 30+ yds in front of the green. We waited as directed until the group in front crossed the creek/ditch before we teed off. By the time we got to our tee shots the group in front was finishing up on the green which was promising that yes indeed the pace of play would be good. Wrong, we finished the first hole and then had to wait on the second tee. The start of a long day of slow play was to begin. Some of the next holes were blind tee shots with the black and white barbers poles provided for direction only. Unfortunately this was not mentioned by the starter which would have helped initially as two players thought they were the normal 150 yd markers and a wrong club selection resulted. Lack of GPS, or no charge yardage book could add time to round. The 12"-18" sticks at 100 and 150 yd markers when in place could easily be missed and the confusion with the barber poles slows the pace of play. While waiting on the fairway for our approach shots the MARSHAL not a golf/players assistant approached us. His greeting was very offensive and aggressive. Two comments rec'd, spoke to group in front and very loudly " did they check those cooler bags you have when you checked in for beer". We replied no, we had no beer either to which we were told then they were not doing their job at check in " Before he had a chance to say anymore, my playing partner told hi,m if he felt that way be free to come and check ours. He then left never to be seen again until one of our other players was so upset with the pace of play that he called the pro shop on the 13th hole to complain, saw the Marshal on the 14th green stop at green supposedly spoke to the group, left without speaking to us. Still took over 1 hr 15 minutes to finish last four holes. After completing round we were going to enjoy the patio and have dinner and a cold beer before driving back to Toronto. Having celebrated my anniversary at Loch Ness/Hunters some years ago,was familiar with the 5 star restaurants offerings and was looking forward to a re visit. Unfortunately the lounge menu was limited and the restaurant was yet to open, perhaps given it was less then an hour before a positive customer service could have said what were you interested in , I will check. We had a cold beer(cart girl busy only saw her once 4th hole, again 13th while waiting.) perhaps on a busy Friday two girls could be out on the course and we left. I believe providing ample beverage course coverage often on a warm June day for players to get refreshment needs to players should happen. This day it did not. Thanks. we had our own coolers with water, juice, fruit and energy bars
The course is a challenging links style course with a good mixture of varying length par 3,s par 4's and 5's. Many changes in elevation, water and wind will challenge all level of golfers with tee blocks for each. True too links style golf are the many sand traps that come into play on both fairways and greens. With the above seasonal wet weather, the course was in an almost dry summer condition with good roll. The first cut of rough was short but thick with the fescue gnarly and long. The greens were fast and above hole position often ended in a 3 putt. A good variety of size and rolling contours added to the putting challenges. I would not hesitate to recommend this course as a good alternative to traditional courses but pace of play and customer service does need attention.
A nice course with a very nice clubhouse and restaurants
This is more like a links track than most in the area. there are some very challenging shots over water, in particular coming into the 18th green.
My only complaint is that they leave the fescue too high. it was higher than that at Merion for the US open. You shouldn't lose a ball that lands one foot off the fairway,. Apart from thAt, i like the course and the after 2pm price of $ 35 inclubding cart is excellent value
constantly improving
I have played this course many times. It used to be very difficult, especially on windy days. Since those early days, the fescue has been cut back, and the greens have been softened. The course is much more enjoyable now. It has excellent drainage, well kept greens and fairways, and a nice variety of holes. I always try to play this course when I'm in the Niagara area.
Front nine more challenging than the back nine
A lot of rain in the previous 72 hours, but course drained well. A few wet areas off the beaten path, Water pools in Bunkers but fairways and greens were Good.
Wow!
Impressed with staff friendliness, the clubhouse, the conditions, and the shot value!
If you enjoy forced carries, quick greens with multiple tiers and nasty breaks, knee-high fescue and (when we played) a punishing wind, then PLAY HERE!
Loved it.
Reminded me of being in Scotland. Multiple ways to play the shot (except for the forced carry over the pond on 18) and positioning is key.
Seaview Stay & Play Golf Package
interesting, perhaps 5.5 hrs was an exception
