Cardinal Lakes Golf Club - Heron Course
About
The Heron Course is one of two 18-hole courses at Cardinal Lakes Golf Club. It is the club's newer championship layout, designed to complement the original course, the executive-length Sparrow. It is 6,765 yards from the back tees but it feels as though it is considerably longer since many holes play into the prevailing wind. The golf course combines elements of classic links, parkland, and Carolinian courses. The generous fairways are guarded by bunkers and the large, fast greens are gently contoured and surrounded by trees. Water is a prominent feature throughout, coming into play on all but four holes. The layout saved the most challenging for last with its signature 18th hole, a par 3 with a tricky island green.

miscommunication with Sprarrow Lake staff
After booking with GolfNow, I called the course to inquire re renting a golf cart. I spoke with Emily who quoted $14.00 for a cart for 2 seniors..I asked her to clarify that as to whether that was the cost per person or the total cost to which she said: "That's the total cost". When we arrived Emily was not there that day but the staff knew who she was and they would not honor that quote. So we paid the $28.00. I believe since I was given the original quote that they should have bit the bullet and honored that or offered a discount on golf supplies, clothing, etc., something to show some integrity.
Wind swept
A nice course ..... a windy day which made the game more difficult. I enjoyed my round and will go back. Best Electric carts I've ever been on .....
Nice Walk
Sparrow Lakes- Heron is a very nice course to play. Pretty straight forward with quite a bit of water and lots of sand around the greens. Fairly long course that plays really long if you're not in the fairway. All in all, a great day washed by us all!
great recovery
I got caught on the 4th hole in a bad thunderstorm and took refuge in a open pump house , it rained for about an hour and a half, when we resumed play there were puddles on the 4th and 5th greens and the pair I was playing with decided to quit because of this. By the 7th hole the puddles were gone from the greens and besides the wet conditions in the traps the course recovered remarkably well. Really enjoyed the course
First round in 2 months
Course was busy but pace was very good. Greens were in fantastic shape, course was lush and green.
good day had by all
Course is in great shape. On this day greens were fast.Done in 3hours 40 minutes. Will definitely play again.
Great layout!
I was very surprised at the condition of the course only because of all the rain we have had its in great shape don't miss this course and very enjoyable to walk
Best Value in Niagara
A good challenge from the white tees and I suspect a really good one from the blue tees. The greens were medium fast and there were plenty of tough reads. The fairways were in excellent condition as were the greens. The sand traps were also good and didn't limit ones chances of making good contact and sticking it close. Overall an extraordinary value for a course of this quality. The food and service at 19 were also great - I highly recommend a pint of Creemore with poutine and jalapeno poppers.
Nicely kept
Good price , quick round, well maintained. I play every year here and come away with the same impressions.
Excellent Course
Well maintained. Easy to walk because its flat. Challenging. Have played course twice and enjoyed both outings. Will go back!
Incredible value!
Paid $16 walking rate through GolfNow, by far the best value round of my life! Walked this great track with ease while 2 friends had a cart. We played in under 4 hours. The course was in immaculate condition, I would highly recommend the heron course to players of all skill levels. Beware, NO HALFWAY HOUSE. Will undoubtedly be back again, with lunch from home :)
Course was in great shape but pace of play was extremely slow
The course was in great shape. It was a little wet from all the rain during the days leading up to our round, but that is to be expected. What was disappointing was that we had booked the round and were not advised that a tournament was going on during the day. The first eight holes were played without delay. However, the next five holes were beyond slow as there were multiple groups waiting to tee off at each hole. It got to the point that rather than wait it out and finish our six hour round, we chose to call it a day as we had already been playing for over four hours and still had several holes to go. A notification prior to booking would have been welcomed as we could have chosen a different time to play or a different course all together.
Challenging and fun course
The course was a bit soggy since we had a major rainfall the day before , however it was still a great round of golf. Still one of my favourite area golf courses, I would recommend to anyone .
sparrow lakes heron course
The heron course is a hidden gem! Well thought out layout requiring interesting tee shots!
Beware this course
Warning : NO Halfway house.
Better bring your own food because the chances of the beer cart girl of running out of food is very high and you may see her only 2 times in 18 holes as she covers the 2 courses of 36 holes.
They have a gravel parking lot so be prepared to return to a dust covered car, so don't come with a clean car.
Best way to describe the Herron is It's like playing on an airport runway
Even on the calmest day anywhere else the winds at the Herron are brutal.
There is NO calm day there as there are NO mature trees only a few very small trees selectively placed for esthetically purposes.
They should rename it the Tornado alley.
Only 2 plastic porta potties ( very smelly ) on the course and with no mature trees to hide behind you better wear a fresh pair of depends.
Better warn the females players about this.
Also with the lack of trees sound carries there so you can here a tee drop from golfers from 3 greens away,,,,very distracting if you dislike talking while teeing off or putting..
BARGAIN
How do you not enjoy yourself with a deal like this. Incredible rate. Course is forgiving (hitting in the rough is not devastating). Only problem, that the course can't really control, where the wind gusts. There are not a lot of tall trees in the middle of the round and it's a buzz kill when you have a par 5 and a stiff breeze right in your face.
I will certainly return to this course, wind or not, because the starter and proshop employees are polite, and the course (especially the greens) are in fabulous shape right now. Oh, and did I mention, that the rates are unbeatable?!?
great afternoon
Great day out of the office. Look forward to playing again
dollar for dollar it is good
I got a flaming deal for $20 walking. Otherwise it is $27, which is still good.
Got eaten alive by mosquitos so take the deet.
It is flat so an easy walking course.
