Cardinal Lakes Golf Club - Heron Course
About
The Heron Course is one of two 18-hole courses at Cardinal Lakes Golf Club. It is the club's newer championship layout, designed to complement the original course, the executive-length Sparrow. It is 6,765 yards from the back tees but it feels as though it is considerably longer since many holes play into the prevailing wind. The golf course combines elements of classic links, parkland, and Carolinian courses. The generous fairways are guarded by bunkers and the large, fast greens are gently contoured and surrounded by trees. Water is a prominent feature throughout, coming into play on all but four holes. The layout saved the most challenging for last with its signature 18th hole, a par 3 with a tricky island green.

Nice treck
The course is in very good condition, greens very fast but holding, it was extremely windy which made club selection challenging, all in all good bang for your buck.
This course is fun to play
this course is fun to play , not to easy nor not to hard
few challenge holes, i had fun time.
but some green need to work done
Fast Greens
Course played very well. First time on the course and a pet peeve of playing courses for the first time is a) not having the pictured holes on the score card b) not having the hole pictured with the yardages at the hole.
There were a few holes that required a layup or cut a corner and I found I was almost hitting into the group in front of me (their third shot as I waited) from the blues.
Excellent course. Loved the length and look forward to coming out again.
The Heron
Fairways and greens are in excellent shape. Course has various degrees of difficulty depending on the choice of tee box. Only downside is once your on the course you don't have access to the clubhouse until you finish the 18.
Plenty of Choices
Great course for everybody from the beginner to the more experienced. 5 tee blocks to choose from depending on your abilities. Greens in great shape and fast. Wide fairways and well groomed. highly recommend it. Two courses to choose from.
have a goooood time
nice & enjoing fun time at golf course.
small group or family gatering
Excellent Atmosphere
What a pleasure to play a course where the rangers don't hound you on every hole (never saw one). Relaxed country environment, nice layout, well maintained and a great price as well. Finished the round in under 4 hours on a sunny, warm Sunday. Can't wait to try it again.
Nice Green
Nice and fast greens.
There are no washrooms until the 13th.
It can be very challenging when it's windy.
Like the course and recommend it to anyone because it's a decent course for its price.
Staff are very nice and friendly.
Problem with booking
Booked our threesome through Golfnow, don't have a printer so only wrote the booking info down. Upon arrival at the course they told us we had only booked two. After several minutes of discussion staff comped us one green fee. Did check the booking info at home, had booked three. Problem between Golfnow and the course, very upsetting to our group.
This is a good one to play!
The course had a lot of water laying on the fairways, to be expected having a rain storm the night before. Looking forward to playing this course under dryer conditions!
The greens were fast (which I like). take some time at the practice green.
Sparrow Lakes The Heron
Good course worth the value. Staff was good. Course was very soggy due to heavy amounts of rain. The greens were very nice and rolled true. Pace of play was under 4 hours. I would return to play the course again.
Nice course
This is a nice course, in good shape from tee to green. Front 9 is tight with out of bounds left or right on many of the holes, back 9 is more forgiving. Lots of water on course, in play on many holes. Course is very flat, and easy to walk.
Fast Greens
Greens are fast and in great shape considering the weather we have had this spring.
Excellent Condition - Good Scoring Opportunity
Have played the Heron 3 times this year. The course is always in excellent condition and the greens are one of the best in the Region. There are a few things that puzzle me with this course, Why would a designer ever make a course where the ninth hole does not go back to the clubhouse? And why make such a great condition course without adding trees between the holes? First, the course design....I have heard that numerous people find it very difficult to play on a hot day. People are unable to rehydrate and rest during these hit/humid days. Suggest to play early or late in dead of summer. Trees, this is why people are able to score well. If you are not a straight hitter you are able to scramble your way to an average round. I will give them credit for the greens, speed is excellent, run true and have numerous hard to read breaks. I believe this course should be considered a touch above average.
Worth the play....
Wonderful course!
The pace was a bit on the long side but the course was fantastic. Lots of bunkers and water to challenge your game. I will definitely play this course again.
Great value
Hard to beat for value for the average golfer that shoots 80 - 100. Lots of parking, friendly people, good food for a start. Course is in very good condition, greens included, particularly at this point in the season. Two options, an exec type course and The Heron, a regular 18 hole course which we played.
A fun but challenging golf course
The golf course is kept very beautiful with the greens rolling at about a 10 or 11. The staff is very friendly, only thing I did not like was the driveway was not paved. Excellent size practice area with a wide 275 yard driving range.
A good test
The Heron is a nice track, challenging and fair, lots of water, chances for birdies are there, you must ouck your spots, greens are great
Some long holes
A well lauded out course with some long difficult holes. Water came into play mant times, as did trees and rough. Great condition.
