Rating 75.2

Coyote Ridge Golf Club, opened in 1999, features some unusual holes that traverse a variety of unique terrain. Each nine is strikingly different -- the front plays through a burgeoning residential community, is generally wide open and void of trees, and takes on the characteristics of a links-style course.

Water comes into play six times on the front, including the extremely difficult ninth hole, which doglegs left around a lake that stretches all the way around the green. Survive the tee shot by bailing right if you have to, but consider laying up on the approach since the water bends all the way around and surrounds the green on three sides. You’ll still have the chance for an up-and-down par, and playing for bogey is much better that rolling into the turn after a double-digit disaster.

Also on the front, No. 7 is a fun par 3 because of the 70-foot drop in elevation. The tee shot goes 165 yards over water into a very wide, challenging green.

Coyote Ridge Golf Club's back nine rolls through an abandoned rock quarry along the Trinity River, featuring more trees and elevation changes.

Storm roughed up the course then staff made it worse by overpromising things

Coyote Ridge was one of my favorite courses for years and it’s close by and always been a nice treat. Recently, The storm has done a number on the course so that holes 10 and 11 are closed down and there are several downed trees etc. As a courtesy, one of the staff members called me after booking on golfnow to let us know “specifics” on the conditions on the course, which was actually a nice courtesy of them to do, but they Proceeded to give all wrong information from there about the range being open (it wasn’t in the morning when we arrived) and they said the greens had been aerated a couple weeks back and they were better now, but they completely unplayable basically yesterday… The bumps condition was so unpredictable that it was basically not worth putting out. The greens are one of the best parts of this course in the past. And I asked the gent who called me if the rest of the course was OK, which he said that it was, when really, it’s in bad shape from the storm. WhileI appreciate the discounted rate that I was given upfront, I would’ve canceled this round of golf if they had been more realistic with the current condition of the course and not just mentioned that 10 and 11 were closed. Was not a course I’d play for the next few months as they recover. Just my opinion.

Great staff, great layout

The course was under maintenance, but the staff communicated the challenges very well in advance and we had a great experience.

Fun To Play

Very fun to play scorable golf course.

Only issue was the back 9 was flooded.

They let me play the front 9 twice for the same price.

Back nine down

Showed up an hour early to learn range is closed. Sent out early, played nine (alone), then went to hole 10, cart said hole 10 and 11 are closed go to hole 12. Ran into a maintenance worker who informed me entire back nine is closed. Odd, first I hear of it is then. Went back to hole 1, now teamed with two other singles, play 1, 2, and get rained out. Stop in pro shop to speak to guy at desk…no offer to give me a rain check, very untalkative.

Not the best experience by far.

Back nine was atrocious

The staff was very nice but other than that, the course was mediocre for a $100 + green fee. First, on the driving range you were only allowed to hit irons so no driver or woods. The front nine was in pretty good shape but can’t stay the same for the back nine. Holes 10 and 11 were closed due to flooding from “letting water from Lake Lewisville”. The guys I was playing with received a discount for the round but I was offered nothing. Drove 20 min from Dallas for this garbage. There are better $100+ courses in DFW.

The bar tender was great food was good, after playing 6 holes at 7:30 am and had a mad dash to clubhouse due to a severe storm that moved in we were entertained with the staff and clean club house and great hospitality, only to find out the course closed and never offered a rain check for our efforts.

We don’t live here and were in town for the CMA that was held there and thought playing a round before the red carpet would be a great opportunity to blow off some steam with some fellow artists would be a good way to spend the morning and poke at one another with good humor and playing with someone else’s clubs would make for some good conversation at the after party.

Great day at Coyote Ranch

My first time to play this course and I was very happy to do so. The clubhouse and practice area were great. The course is interesting. Front 9 what I’d call a parkland style. Back nine is fairly challenging: more of target golf. Got paired with two other guys that had good games. Just a great golf day. Also the polana problem mentioned in other posts seems to be subsiding.

Would not recommend

For the price that was through a hot deal, this course is in very poor shape. Most greens are like putting in a cabbage field, lots of poa on most greens.

Great layout

The course layout make this course very enjoyable to play. For a course in North Texas, it offers great terrain variations. I consider it a target course, as most of the holes are not long. At this time of the year, the fairways are green and soft. The course has a note about the greens, specially in the front 9 were not great - but it should be temporary. So this time the greens are slow. The course is well equipped with restrooms, water and good beverage cart. Unfortunately they don’t allow walking with push carts, but considering the terrain, I understand..

Definitely I enjoyed and will play again.
