Best Public Course in WNY
I play everyday, and I get to a lot of places.
This course is a bit of a haul for me, and it's the most expensive, but it's worth both the time and the money.
Playing it this late in the year, the greens were fast, fairways bouncing the ball forever, what a great surprise.
Good fall golf
The course itself was in very good shape except the the greens had been recently aerated (aeration was noted on Golfnow website and price reflected conditions). We were out early so the pace of play was under 4 hours. Course has to be played a number of times in order to know some of the hazards that are hidden from where you are hitting your shot. Overall it is a fun and challenging test.
Nice course, good condition.
Live across the river on the Cdn, side and wanted to try the course. Lots of good comments from friends.
Pro shop staffer was a bit surly, starter was very good.
Liked the course but play was very slow. Waited on every tee and almost 5 hours for 18. No Marshall.
Won't likely return given the great courses available on our side of the river.
Casino Golf
This course was ranked one of the top casino courses in the country. So I made the trip. Course was in good condition. The greens were aerated. It would have been nice to be told this ahead of time and play was very slow. I found the front nine a little more interesting, especially the 6th hole with a split fairway cut diagonally by a creek giving you and interesting choice.
18 was a par 3 with all carry over a pond
Very Nice
Great shape; challenging holes; staff very friendly; playable by all
Hickory - worth a trip over the Border
A Sunday mid-afternoon round over there. Paid $42 USD with Cart.. Course reminded me of Legends of Niagara and Grand Niagara. Giant fairways but still required placement decisions off the tee. Greens were tricky and had many options for pin placements. Enjoyed playing a course that had a par 3 finish hole. Being a Niagara Region resident, I had this track on my bucket list for a few years and finally made the trip over with some buddies. Post round dinner over at Pine street is a 20 minute drive...also worth the trip.
Like putting on the moon
You would have thought a helicopter dropped a hundred golf balls on every green. I'm not exaggerating. I've never seen so many ball marks that were not repaired on greens in the 50 years that I've been golfing. To top it off there was no ranger on the course. Our round of golf took over 5 1/2 hours to play. We had to wait on every shot, on every hole from start to finish. It was one of the worse golfing experiences I've had since I've been playing.
Challenge Yourself
With the varying distance tee pads you can challenge yourself each round you play here. Par 3 holes in particular can change club selection so drastically you need to know your club strengths and weeknesses. Good luck with your score but irregardless good or bad you won't forget this course and you'll anxious to return. We did and we're from Canada. Were returning in September for a 3 day golf weekend.
Awesome everything...and the best rolling greens around!!!
Got a 1/2 price Hot Deal for Fri AM. Pro Shop staff (and all staff) are super-friendly and super-helpful!!! Say hi to Guy the Player's Attendant if you see him riding around...a great guy!!! And shout out to Mallory and Sam in the clubhouse...friendly, helpful, and engaging!!! Food is good and reasonable priced, good beers on tap, and Happy Hour....what more could you ask!!! 12 buck Fish Fry on Friday nights...50 cent wings on Tuesdays...Course was in excellent shape, with good cuts and lots of area protected from carts....the way all courses should be!!! Greens were not too fast or quick, and were very true...but watch your roll out (your "weight" for our Canadian friends).... especially on down-hillers. Most greens are pretty large and undulating....but they are a joy to putt on. Layout is challenging, especially with the wind up...but there are lots of par and birdie chances if you hit it straight. Sand is tough, especially with the lips and the heather/waste areas around them...but again, hit it straight and you will be OK. This course is not my favorite, but to me it is the overall nicest course in the region....a MUST VISIT for sure!!! And the ball-hawking is great as well....lots of Pro V's, Callaways, and TaylorMades.....sweet!!!
Love this course!
Course was in great shape and finished our round in under 4 hours. We drive over an hour to get to the course and it's always worth the trip.
Great Trent Jones course
Loved it... Looking forward to playing this course again
Links with Trees
Fun course, in great shape considering the lack of rain this year. Lots of blind shots. Very flat so a great walking course.
Don't miss playing this course.
Father / son golf trip started here and it was a great beginning. Very nice facility with multiple tee boxes to offer players of different calibers a challenge.
Simply excellent
Wow what a course. Greens are fast fairways are mint and rough is actually grass and not straw like others.
I will return again soon.
Won't Hesitate Coming Back
It has been a very VERY DRY summer in this area, but you wouldn't know it by the condition of the fairways and greens at Seneca Hickory Stick.
Pros:
> chipping and putting green (near ProShop) in tip-top shape
> greens and fairways in excellent condition
> course design always keeps you on your toes
> various elevations to greens
> starter was out of this world courteous and accommodating
> food at the turn was quick AND delicious.
> there is cold water coolers located throughout the course so you can refill as often as you'd like.
Cons:
> the range has suffered
> the cost of a small bag of range balls is $5
> some of the cart paths could use repair
There is no reason someone should hesitate coming here. Grab your passports, if you're from Canada, and make the trip. It's well worth it.
NICE LAY OUT
THE COURSE WAS IN EXCELLENT SHAPE. GREEENS WERE QUICK BUT NOT FAST. SOME BLIND HOLES. PAR 3S (5) ARE ALL DIFFERENT IN LENGTH & DIFFICULTY.
VALUE WAS OUTSTANDING. PLANNING ON GOING BACK SOON
Nice but not worth the money
The course was in excellent condition in June, the service was excellent but the layout of the course is not worth the money, if it was less expensive it would be OK. The course was not interesting or fun to play.
June 4
The coarse was very soggy. Did not drain as well as I would have expected. Greens were slow even with damp conditions. Cart paths need a lot of work. Otherwise we had a great day except for our less than stellar play. Enjoyed our time and would go back again on a HOT DEAL price.
great value
loved everything about this course, the course layout, the greens, clubhouse, friendly staff, big bang for buck
