a true links style course...even more when the wind is up...
a good track with ample greens that are undulating enough to create inspired pin placements.....up to five tee areas on every hole...make the course as long or short as you want......wind direction would be a good indicator for distance desired....bunkers aplenty with smalls brooks running along some holes toward the awaiting ponds throughout.....great fun to be had...
Awesome course
Fast greens and difficult holes, make Seneca a great challenge. Last time the course killed me. This time I was out for revenge. Shot a season low 80. Would reccomend Seneca to everyone. First ones out at 8:30, were finished by noon. 5 minutes from the Queenston-Lewiston border.
Challenging
Will play again . Greens were aerated.
Need a ranger for slow players.
Nice!
Great course for money! Well kept, over the top staff
Worth Playing
This RTJ Jr. Western NY course is a great track and true test of golf. Well positioned sand, water and trees force you to play a variety of shots and think your way through the course.
Overall, the course was in fantastic shape and pace of play was fantastic. Never felt rushed from behind and never found ourselves on top of the group in front of us.
I overheard some people complaining about the course being too expensive, and perhaps by Buffalo standards the course was on the high side, but playing courses in the Metro NY area, the value for the money was fantastic.
I woud reccomend this course to anyone who finds themselves in the greater Buffalo area.
nice course....
Nice course, well kept... a few holes have some blind shots which will be made easier after playing the course a few more times , overall a good experience ...
slow play,difficult course
I played there once last year ,all greens were sanded, and the play was slow.only reason I went back was I had a gift card.
Okay course, but expected more...
This was our first time playing this course. Based on cost and hype, we thought we'd be going to a fairly swanky course. Totally not the case. It's okay, but that's about it. This course was a spitting image of Buffalo Tournament Club in Lancaster. Very little growth on the fairways...no color...and honestly fairly boring. I live in central Erie county, surrounded by similar/better courses, and I have no incentive to go back up there to play...if anything, cost is a dis-incentive. The clubhouse was nice, the people were nicer, and the greens were good...but the rest of the place was simply average.
Enjoy these greens....
Some of the fastest greens I have played. If the course is busy, expect a longer round than normal. There is enough difficulty with some of these holes, that it will bottleneck on busier days.
I enjoyed my day, even though the course won today....
Course was wet but still in excellent condition
Even though the course was wet from a heavy rain, it was in excellent condition/
JULY 13, 2013 review
Course was in much better condition than the last time I played in 2012. The areas which were rock/hard-pan in 2012 are now being watered.
Tee boxes were all in fine condition and the greens were rolling very true and fast.
Playing partner advised the bunkers were also in very good condition (fortunate enough not to be in one that day).
Took advantage of discount rate and enjoyed the course.
Ranger & cart girl both very pleasant during the round.
Awesome course and conditions!
The course is quite challenging, but is very fair! The fairways are generous and the greens are quite large. And the course conditions were impecable!
Best public course in Buffalo, NY area
Every hole is scenic and challenging. Drives need to be straight or you will be in the high grass. Fast undulating greens guarded well by sand, high grass, and water. Fairways are like a carpet. This is the first time I played here in all my time in the Buffalo area. I was amazed and impressed. Highly recommended.
great course!! can't wait to play it in the middle of the summer
Beautiful course!!! challenging will play again!!!!
Not bad for April
This course has a nice layout. Fairways are wide enough, greens are undulating. For April, this course was wet but hey, April. I would not hesitate to come back in the summer.
Had fun.................
My favorite course in New York State
I play here often and always leave pleased. The conditions are always perfect even in April. If you have never played Seneca Hickory Stick Golf Club it is a must play
A Challenge for All Skills Levels
Whether you want to play from Championship Tee Boxes, or up front on the Greens or Reds, this course will be a challenge. The conditions are top notch, & the staff is ready to help.
I wouldn't recommend this course for someone who only plays once a year, but if you can play a round of golf without loosing a dozen balls, and you can appreciate a fine course, Hickory Sticks is for you.
The only improvement I would suggest - bring your own range finder. The carts are not equiped, and it's kinda a guessing game if you find yourself off the fairway.
