Situated along the shores of the Susquehanna River, Royal Manchester Golf Club is tucked away in the rolling hills of northern York County. The course is just a few miles outside Harrisburg but the traditional links design will transport you to the seaside courses of the British Isles. Like the Old Course at St. Andrews and Royal Latham, which served as the inspiration, the golf course has an open, windswept landscape with only two bodies of water. The 15th, the longest par 3 on the course, is the only hole set among the few trees that dot the landscape. The most formidable challenge comes from the prevailing winds as well as the strategically placed bunkers. Royal Manchester Golf Club finishes with a memorable view of its signature waterfall that cascades down into a sparkling pond.

Great course I play here twice a month

They've cut back the tall grass in a few places and I think it helped speed up pace of play. I started around 11:00 And by the time we figured out yardage and were ready it was time to hit. The group in front of us let us through at the turn and clear sailing from there.

Greens in good shape. They putt pretty true if you keep in mind where the river is - add a little break it really pulls the ball. In another week or two greens will be back to great shape. Aerated about 3 weeks ago. Wide fairways provide good lies everywhere on the course. It's a lost ball if you stray more than 10-12 feet off the fairway. If you can't hit the fairways you better bring a dozen balls. With the mounds in between the holes there is lots of space and you rarely see the other golfers on the course. I like this course a lot. It's a really peaceful place and I enjoy being out on this course.

Play it if you get the chance!!!

Great Links course. If youre not in view of the power plant, its a beautiful place. I also played it on a NON windy day. Im assuming on a windy day, it plays tough. Cant wait to get out there sometime again. I live 100 miles away. But will definitely go back when passing from Central PA to Phila ...Staff was incredibly nice as well. This was a hot deal and I was making a delivery in the area. My delivery held me up past my tee time. I called the pro shop and they told me not to worry about it, come when I can, and they would still honor the golf now deal...and hour and 10 mins after I was supposed to tee off.

Very nice course, but very unfriendly staff

This is a nice links course. The fairways are OK although the greens were somewhat shaggy. We arrived 45 min. before our tee time and it was raining. The assistant pro was adamant about joining us up with other golfnow.com golfers and treated us poorly because we WERE golfnow.com customers. Although no one was teeing off (maybe because it was raining and other people had canceled their tee time), he made us wait until our exact golf now tee time. I won't be playing this course again.

Need to play it again in the fall

It is a really nice course especially their 18th signature hole upon which I had a GIR with my six iron which I usually hate to hit. Overall, it is not a punishing course for being a links style course that is fairly narrow in terms of fairway width.
I made the mistake of playing a little over a week after the greens were aerated and that was too soon. The tee boxes were done that day and the day before so they were in rough shape. I bet the course is normally pristine. The greens were in a rather sandy condition as a result and it rained a lot the day before so your ball and putter blade got rather sandy as a result.
This course has some gorgeous views. It is close to Brunner Island so some views are interrupted by the cooling towers.
The par 5s are great and not too challenging. The par 3s are very challenging for a variety of reasons. There is some great course architecture here on about 40% of the holes.
If the greens had not been aerated and it had not rained the day before, these greens would be lightning quick. I believe they are the fastest in the region. While it is worth playing, it is clearly not the best value in the area.
Also, I wanted a repair tool and ball marker from there and they ran out which was disappointing. The staff is super friendly and most courses need to take a page out of their book.
Next time I will test their food and beer menu for which I ran out of time to check out.

Club Selection

Select the correct club, if you are a one wood go for it all golfer and you cannot keep it straight or in the fairway you better bring a lot of golf balls

Nice course witha links-style feel!

A great mix of long and short holes. Up hill holes and down hill holes. Plenty of trouble if your tee shots stray too far off course. Almost impossible to find a ball that lands in the knee high grasses beyond the primary rough. The greens had be punched a few days before my round, bit I knew that from the information on Golf Now and the course website. Many courses don't let you know this ahead of time.
I was lucky enough to grab a mid day Saturday tee time for $17 on Golf Now. What a steal!
I will go back, multiple times!

Links course. Reasonable fairway width but if miss you're in tall grass/heather & will be lucky to find ball much less have a shot.

Stream meanders through several holes & forms ponds in front of 9th & 18th holes for challenging finishing holes. Well maintained. Very nice clubhouse.

played August 10th

Unfortunately, I had a poor day of driving the ball and it cost me several golf balls. You miss the fairway it 20' of rough on either side, kiss it goodbye. Tees and greens were in outstanding shape. Fairways were better than most courses. Surely one of the best in Central PA but if you are having a bad day, this course will make you pay dearly.

Great lynx course with character.

I love playing this course. If you keep in fairway or first cut you can score well. If in rough take your medicine. Beautiful area and a great lynx course. Greens are fantastic. Very enjoyable to putt on.

US Open / Open Championship Rough

Greens were very nice, not as fast as I would have expected. While the fairways were pristine, The rough wasn't as manicured. While make no bones about it, this is a lynx style course with penalizing secondary rough, the first cut of rough was either cut to US Open height or isn't being trimmed to a player friendly length. I found the course an excellent challenge for precise drives and second shots, I would not recommend the course to high handicappers. Bring lots of balls that you don't mind losing. For Seniors that don't hit the ball far, but are generally driving down the center of the fairway, this course is a delight. Short and straight is better than long and off the fairway. I would definitely play the course again, but likely only play irons for the whole round.

great layout for a course that's only four years old

The course is in great condition. Tight fairways, minimal rough and of course, the fescue. At the bar afterwards, the staff mentioned about having two cuts of fescue, one about ankle height and the next cut being knee height. This is a great idea being that if you are in the fescue in it's current set up, you will not be able to find your ball. Your ball will often roll through the rough right into the fescue, so fairways are crucial on this course.

Terribly slow, no rangers

To start I will say I LOVE the layout of this course. However, the pace of play was awful. Our round took 5-5.5 hours. The group in front of us was awful. They never played ready golf and each player traveled to the others ball. We called the pro shop to get someone to say something. They acknowledged but never came out. Luckily I got a deal on the price so I wasn't too upset but if you're paying full price for your sake I hope pace isn't slow. This is my 2nd experience with slow play at this course.

a tough round, but had fun.

I really enjoyed my round, I haven't played a real links course in a while and it challenged me on most holes. I was also impressed with the greens as well, very fast and many breaks depending on ball position. The course was in great condition and very glad I chose to play there!

Keep it in the short grass

True LINKS course, wide fairways, but if you miss, you are in the tall fescue (or worse) and you can kiss par goodbye (and maybe your ProV1, as well).

Great greens (quick, but not overly so), well-maintained course throughout. Some of the holes are tricky, you'll do better your second time out here than your first, unless you are playing with someone who can help guide you around.

Great Layout and challenging!

We play this course numerous times a year and really like it. It's always in great condition and the staff has always been accommodating. The only issue we had was the pace of play. We had a group ahead of us playing extremely slow and didnt even acknowledge us behind them, we were a twosome. We called the clubhouse and they said they would send someone out but we never saw anyone. Also, there was a youth outing being played that day and the pace was crawling, we waited 15 minutes between every shot. We ended up quitting after 13 holes because it would've ended up being a 6 hour round. I'm a little irritated because the golf now teetime had a fast play icon, and this round was anything but fast. I would play here again but not without calling the course to make sure this doesn't happen again.
