Still A Gem
I hadn't played this course in over 8 years. I expected it to totally kick my butt like it did the first time, but several tee boxes were under repair, so I made a few easy pars sine the temporary tee-boxes were moved up a good 20 yards on average. In fact, most of the tee boxes were moved up a fairly good amount as compared to the yardage state on the scorecard. The course was in good condition overall, but some of the sand bunkers I used to fear had been converted to waste bunkers, yet remained a little more sandy than grassy. The greens rolled fast and true, and most of the fairways were very green, if not quite plush. This last winter has been harsh, and the 8 years since I last shot the course have been part of the harshest drought in some time. Compared to many other courses I have played, Sugar Tree has gone out of their way to maintain good fairways and nice greens. I'd like to see the holes along the Brazos have the pseudo waste bunkers either fully converted, or set back to full fledged sand traps, and I 'd like to see the revamped tee boxes, water fall, and water wheel. Otherwise, conditions bordered on absolute excellence.
Excellent course
This course is outstanding and I would recommend it to anybody that plays golf. The people are friendly in the clubhouse and they really try to take care of you. I've played at surgartree many times and the conditions are always great. At the end of your day when you get to the 18th your experience is caped off when you walk up a waterfall to get to the tee box.
Outstanding golf course for this area
This was the first time I had the opportunity to play this outstanding course. The greens were alwsome, the course beautiful and an experience to play. The fairways and layout was an outstanding play. I play about 2-3 times a week and I will drive the 50 miles again to play this course. Do not miss out on an outstanding golf day and play.
Sugar tree
Great course to play, difficult yet fun. Very well maintained.
Great course
Great course play it all the time. Neat views deer all over.
Another fine outing at SugarTree
I play this course as often as I can get out there. The staff is always friendly and the course has never been in bad shape any time I've ever been out there. When my dad and I went this time, some of the other golfers out there were a little less than courteous but that is not the fault of the course. It was a Sunday in the upper 60's in January with no football on so we expected it to be busy and it was. The bacon cheeseburger at the turn was good as always. I think they give too many chips, but thats a personal opinion, because I never can eat all of them.
Nice course but run poorly
This place is nice, but don't expect any amenities. This last time we went out we had to wait 30 minutes past out tee time to get a cart. Also, in 36 holes we have see the cart girl once which would be fine, but all the water jugs we empty on the course.
Hope you can Draw the ball
If you are a righty and you can draw the ball then this course should be pretty easy for you. This is a beautiful course and it has a lot of scenic holes and trees. Lots of challenging elevation changes and blind tee shots. It can really test you if you are always pressing your luck with a long tee shot. In some cases you are just better off playing a shorter club down the middle or you are in for a long round. Greens are always smooth and fast when I play, but playable. Nothing crazy to think you are playing miniature golf and can't hold the green. Would definitely make the drive out there and give it a play. You won't be disappointed you did.
this course rocks, worth the drive
this course has kicked our butts each time we played it. very good condition for this time of year. we were running a little late and the pro shop staff took care of us. had a great cheeseburger at the turn. the woman running the snack bar was very friendly. and helpful.
Worth the trip to play this track!
Course was in great shape greens smooth and fast, it's worth the trip to play this course! I have played Sugar Tree a few times and the Staff is great, the course as as well, it's worth the trip.
Good course to play.
I had not played this course in some time but found it to be well taken care of and enjoyed playing it. The staff was friendly. Enjoyed my day.
Great Course
Fairways can be hard to find unless you know the course. Greens were in great condition.
Hardest course I've ever played
We were running late for our tee time and even though they were very busy, Craig in the proshop was very nice and accomodating about it. We were in town for the Cowboys game and decided to drive out to check this place out. Expect to get some big numbers the first time you play this course.....VERY NARROW and unforgiving if you don't know where to leave the ball. The course was nice and reminded me of "The Falls" in New Ulm, Tx..........I prefer The Falls...more forgiving and they keep it in better shape.
Challenging and well maintained.
Rain off and on thru the day, but this course drains well. Staff worked thru the rain as usual to keep the player experience a great one. Love this track and Golf Now's pricing makes the daya pleasure.
Challenging course, very well maintained, very picturesque
Truly loved this course. Heard about it for years. I am glad I finally made the trek out there. Well worth the drive
Well worth the trip!
Second time I've played Sugar Tree this year. It's a fabulous course...well worth the hour drive. Greens ran beautifully...fairways in great shape. This is a very challenging course...I do not recommend it for beginners! Not one truly easy hole on the course. Tight, lots of dog legs and elevation changes. I'm a 14-15 handicapper. Made two birdies and still shot a 91! Bring lots of balls, leave your ego in the car and enjoy one of the best courses in North Texas.
Shake The Sugar Tree!!!
A buddy has been telling me to go check this place out for years. Finally made the trek - absolutely worth it. Staff was super nice, as were the locals. Greens are pristine. This is a great place to geat away and have a great round. My one tip buy the $4 yardage book if you have never played it and stay right on the par 5's. Great elevation changes and a lot of strong par 3's.
OVER RATED
I was very excited to make the trip out there to play this course, as it has been rated in the top 10 in DFW for years now. I was HIGHLY disappointed in the place. The tee boxes are like small ant hills, and its hard to find level ground on them, much less GRASS!. The fairways were in food shape as well as the greens (pretty quick), but the bunkers were TERRIBLE. There were branches, trash and the edges were not trimmed. There is a lot of work for that maintenance crew to get done between the falling trees and just stuff everywhere, but I mostly saw the same 5 guys just driving around on carts, not doing a thing. I would only play this again for free or little to no cost. They really need to put some effort into the course conditions, it would be a $60-$80 Green Fee all day if they just took some time to clean it up.
Great course
Sugar Tree is one of the best courses in the Dallas Fort Worth area
