So la la for the money
We were disappointed in the greens, hopping balls along the bumpy greens. We disliked the deep uncut and uneven rough, losing balls everywhere.
Would not return. Z
Disappointing
I have played the Oaks course at Twin Lakes and it is actually a great deal for the money, that said the Lakes course did not leave a good impression. Issues include:
CONS
-Course layout is absolute chaos
-No scorecard provided by starter, tee coordinator, or clubhouse.
-Yardage information not visible from two back tees.
-Probably slipped a disc driving on the cartpath.
PROS:
-Greens in excellent shape.
Verdict: Skip, better options available.
Staff high and low
Course was in great shape, though wet after days of rain. Greens very nice, but stayed dew-saturated well past noon. Experience w staff was all over the place: On arrival, starter at Oaks course asks me to repeat my name five times. Can’t find me on list. Then he can. Takes five minutes and I’m a little pressed on tee time. Asks me to go inside to pay, even though I’m prepaid. Stand in line another five minutes and am told “you’re all set, didn’t need to come inside”. Arrive at Twins Course starter, who is nice and helpful. Says the other twosome already teed off (five mins before tee time) so I can go ahead and play alone. Great. Except early-starting twosome are walking and play super slow. Groups behind me are up my back in no time. Not a ranger in sight. Finally pass them on ten. Rest of round great. When I get back I discover my charge plug has broken off in my iPhone. Staff member checking in carts sees this, says Hold on, and runs to get pliers with which we remove broken plug. Above and beyond! So, the good, the bad and the whatever...
Poor Communication
Staff did state golf course was closed and there were no signs posted. There was no starter or field Marshall. Very poor communication. Most staff were drinking coffee or smoking instead of helping customers.
Wide open fairways
You would thinks a “Lakes” Course would have you hitting over water every other hole. Water played on about 3-4 holes and for a Virginia Course there was a lot of room before you would be hit with the Forrest of tall trees that there’s no coming back from on some courses in this state. Very much enjoyed playing this course for a 1st time and would play this one again for sure!
