Lost Balls
This course has potential. Too many tricked up holes that need to be changed. Some holes after going around the lake were more classic and a good combination of links and wooded holes. Several holes were difficult because you can't see where to hit your drive and sometimes second shot. This really slows down play.
Beautiful but very challenging
My wife and I played this course on a Sunday afternoon after a Saturday night at Wrigley Field. The first 5 holes are a run of the most challenging you will find anywhere......water, narrow, long, etc...Very nice layout....highly recommended!
Not enough course info for the weird layout
There are way too many blind hazards and random patches of long grass that just serve to be "gotchas." Lots of water and hazards are fair, but you can't leave players guessing on virtually half of their full shots over 150 yards.
If you hit the ball anywhere close to 250+, this course has a dumb layout with a design that tries to trick you rather than providing fair challenges. If they want to keep the layout, they really need to put GPS in the cart that points these things out. I had a rangefinder and still had no idea what was out there.
Cool course if you're looking for a novelty or don't hit the ball very far. Otherwise, it's the classic case of overzealous greenskeepers trying to be cute.
Fantastic value for money
Absolute gem of a course and great value for money. If you like to pull the driver out on each tee you may want to think again... I was told to play target golf, if only it was that easy.
This course for me is on a par with harbourside but much cheaper.
A hidden gem
Playing Lost Marsh is a great experience. The senior rate for the course is very fair and appreciated. The staff was friendly and appreciated having us there. The clubhouse is a wonderful and beautiful building that also houses a great restaurant.
The course is tough with challenging holes - especially the first five which are all bordered or affected by water.
The greens were in great shape and both held, and rolled, well. Be sure to use your course map to help avoid hidden dangers like tight fairways and water hazards.
I look forward to my next visit to this superb course!
Really enjoyed it-
Very interesting challenging course with lots of water.-clubhouse food and drink great-easy to get to-just off Skyway-will play again
Terrible pace of play
5 and a half hour round, waiting every hole. Rangers doing nothing about slow groups. Recommended pace of play not enforced.
Course very scenic
Played here numerous times each season since it opened. Can be brutal when the wind is blowing. Pace of play is biggest negative. Seems it keeps taking longer to play each time. Noticed big drop in pace when they swapped the front and back 9's several seasons ago. Good mix of hard and easy holes with a few silly ones thrown in( #4, the green on #6) but #9 or #18 late in the day into the sun and a west wind...killer! Bring your A-game or lots of balls. Not a place for beginners.
Definitely worth a visit
Fun course that I enjoy more and more each round, mostly because it takes a few rounds to really learn how to play certain holes. I don't care for a couple of tee box placements on the back nine (trees right in the line of fire), as well as just in front of the backside of a green as well, but otherwise it's a challenging layout for a good golfer.
Good value
Lost Marsh is a fun golf course, and has some beautiful holes. It can play tough if you don't hit me the ball straight or know the course. I'd like to see them put GPS on their carts. It's definitely worth playing. Also they have a beautiful clubhouse that sits high on the property and has some beautiful views off the deck.
Lost marsh gem
Love this course- for value it doesnt get much better.
Greens are in great shape and fast. Has a great mix of challenging holes and then some easier ones.
Not sure why more folks don't play this course.
Quirky. Skip it
Golf course is overpriced. It's a $55 course on the weekends, tops. They get away with charging what they do because of the proximity to Chicago. So many better layouts in Northern Indiana that are much less expensive that LM.
So many courses that if your a long to medium length hitter (250+) off the tee you can't hit driver. A few more that you shouldn't hit even 3-wood. A lot of this is because was built on old landfill. Don't get me wrong, the course condition wise is very good, but the layout is not my favorite. I like LM even less than Aberdeen in Valparaiso, which is a much less expensive track.
Great Track
Great track...but don't go during the week because I don't want to see big crowds so I can continue to enjoy this tremendous facility without too many players. A true gem... in my view better than Harborside.
nearly a six hour round!
They stack up the tee times and there were generally two groups on every tee box. Yes, it's always windy here and yes, there's lots of water. But the delays on the course were simply unacceptable.
If you aren't an Indiana resident, you pay about 50% more to play here as well.
Clean it up, Lost Marsh!
Amazing course
One of the finest courses in the Chicago area, at a great price. As good or better to Harborside at 1/3 the price.
Lake winds always makes this course more challenging, it would be nice if holes 1 and 3 were later in the round.
Staff is very cordial and customer oriented.
I really think this could be solved with GPS in the carts and getting rid of the random patches of long grass (e.g. randomly surrounding the 9th green). Way fewer lost balls and general frustration after hitting intended shots.
