Course was great
Everyone was professional course was magnificent recommend it to anyone
Lost Marsh should not be lost
Great entertaining track. Bring your shot making skill and check your ego as the course will punish errant tee shots and often requires a modest layup even on par fives. Greens were in great shape and rolled true. Good golf will score well and bad golf will rack up a large number! Good track and a good value.
Glad you saw great value playing at Lost Marsh and happy to hear you enjoed the layout. Come back soon!
Lost Marsh
This is a great course. I would recommend it to all golfers. Bring extra balls as there is a lot of water. Lightning fast greens. It was a very hot day and not much shade. There were water jugs about every fourth or fifth hole. The beverage cart came around several times. And there is a nice snack shack in the middle of the course
Excellent! Happy to hear you loved the course and it provided a challenge. See you again!

Fun but challenging
This course is always a blast to play. The first 5 holes are incredibly challenging due to the water hazards but they make the course what it is. Lots of variety in the holes and they make you think hard about shot selection. Always seem to be in pretty good shape and the staff is usually very friendly.

Always well kept. Greens fairways and are as good any where challenging course
Great! Glad you liked the course and found it challenging. Come back and see us!
Tough front 9
This course has a nice layout. But you better be ready for that front 9 lots of water. Price was right for a Sunday morning. Played here 5 times last year and will definitely be back again.
So glad you'll be coming back again! We appreciate your feedback. See you again soon.
Only ho if you have 6 hours
The course was very nice, but the pace of play was horrible! Our group finally left at the13th hole because we had dinner plans and couldn't finish and be there for dinner. I was very disappointed because I think they need to schedule tee times at least 10 or 11 minutes apart. We waited 10 minutes on every hole.
Thank you for leaving your review it is important to us. We will inform our staff of the pace of play concern you mentioned here. We do hope to see you again, let us make it a great round for you!
Beware the weekend warriors!
Lost Marsh schedules tee times every 9 minutes. The pace of play on the scorecard allows for 10-16 minutes per hole. The course was extremely backed up for the first 5 holes. It took 3 hours to play the first 9. We had to leave after 13 hole to get home for the Blackhawks playoff games. I have only played the course one other time on weekends, but several times on week days and did not have the same problem.
Thanks for leaving your review, glad you like the course and enjoyed your round. We will inform our staff of the pace of play. We appreciate you looking out and hope to see you again soon!
Great course but glacial pace
The course was in outstanding shape for April, especially as compared to others in the area. However, our round on a Sunday was in excess of 5 1/4 hours. Despite that all on the course could see multiple groups on every hole, the folks behind us kept firing into our group. No rangers in sight after about the first six holes.
We like the place, but we won't be back for a while.
We appreciate your feedback. We regret to hear your round was not up to par in terms of the pace of play. We will inform our staff and address this concern. We do hope to see you again soon!
Good
Par 5's set up very stupid but nice otherwise
Thanks for playing at Lost Marsh! Sorry to hear the par 5's weren't laid out the way you would want them, but aside from that we are glad you enjoyed your round!
5 1/2 hour round and rude staff...
I've been coming to Lost Marsh for the last 3 years from the Chicago area. Typically, this is an awesome track. Pace of play is usually 4-4 1/2 hours max and the staff is usually friendly.
Unfortunately, yesterday was the worst round of golf I have played in a very long time. I teed off at 11:06am and we finished our round at 4:17pm. There was 3, 4 somes ahead of us that were a group of friends and just about every hole, they would wait for each other on the green/tee box, etc. At one point, on hole 12 it took us 27 minutes to finish because the group was in the woods ball hawking, then proceeded to wait for their friends to come up the fairway on 13 and talk to them (no one was on the green and our tee box was backed up with 3 groups including us).
At that point, I called the club house. The ranger came out (didn't catch his name) and told my friend, what seems to be the problem. My buddy goes, "We've been out here for almost 3 1/2 hours and these groups ahead of us are not keeping pace, then wait for each other to finish holes."
The ranger then said to him VERBATIM, "Yea, well what's the issue then we're packed today."...he gave him attitude for expressing his displeasure with the situation?? I was appalled by his lack of professionalism at a course where I've never had an issue let alone with a ranger.
I have played this track probably 10-15 times in the last 3 years and drive an hour out of my way to do so. I have introduced multiple friends to this place. Sadly, this might be the last time I come play here because it was the most frustrating round I have ever played.
I'm NEVER one to complain about things and understand a course being packed during peak hours on the weekend, but this was almost 5 1/2 hours I wish I had back.
Thank you for reviewing Lost Marsh and offering your thorough feedback, we see it as an opportunity to improve. We are so sorry to hear the pace of play was slower than you would have liked and that your complaint was not reacted upon appropriately. We will be sure to address with our staff. We hope to see you back for another tee time, and please reach out to us beforehand if you have any other information that could help us ensure your next experience is excellent: LostMarshTeeTimes@aol.com.
Aerified greens but still a lot of fun.
I played on 10/2/15 and greens were very recently aerified. No notification on GolfNow but I thought the greens were still playable just very slow.
I had been looking forward to playing the course for 3 seasons. I got the chance and played even with a forecast of winds of 20-30 mph. I had heard how challenging the course can be (especially the first 5 holes) so I wasn't really expecting a good score with winds of that speed.
I found this course to be one of the most fun course I've ever played. I think some would call it gimmicky and I totally understand where they are coming from, but I found it to be very enjoyable layout. Considering what the land use to be, it is impressive.
The course conditions (aside from the aerified greens) were very nice.
Wind - the high winds basically made a good score impossible (I'm a high handicapper). If you are anything worse than a 10 handicap AND care about your score, don't play here on a windy day. You will be royally frustrated. I will definitely play here again but only on a calmer day (lost waaay too many balls).
I also think the slope and ratings are a bit low for the difficulty. Yes, the wind was a huge factor but this course would be very tough for average/below average players even on a calm day.
Thank you for your review. We are so sorry you were not aware that the course underwent aerification on September 28th. We are glad to hear you enjoyed your round despite the circumstances. Please send us an email to lostmarshteetimes@aol.com for a promotional code to use toward your next round of golf in gratitude for your bringing the situation to our attention.
Tough challenging course but in great condition
Lost Marsh is a very challenging course. The front 9 (or first 5 holes specifically have water and island greens. On a windy day it creates havoc. The course is in excellent condition as are the facilities. Prepare to lose a number of balls between the water and natural growth on the course. The course is always extremely well maintained so that is never a problem.
Thank you for your review! We love hearing how much you enjoy the conditions, facilities, and the challenge! We look forward to seeing you back for another round soon!
Tough Course
I wouldn't recommend this course for anyone that's a 10 Handicap or lower... you will lose a ton of balls. The course is fun, the pace of play is brutally slow, hence the 10 HCP min I would suggest.
Thank you for your review. We hope to see you back for another round soon!
Gorgeous course & clubhouse!
Beautiful course with a good, even mix of par 3,4,5. Wish there were more restrooms on the course. And add gluten free cider to the girls drink carts! :)
Thank you for your review! We appreciate your feedback. We hope to see you back for another round soon!
Only if everything else is booked and you need to stay close to city
I was excited to play this course. I had some solid recommendations from reputable sources that said its a nicely kept spot, close to the city, but can get a bit gimmicky. My sources were 2/3 but weighted most heavily on the gimmicky factor. The staff was friendly, the conditions were good for having so much rain, the greens were extremely slow, pace was fine but this course is just stupid. The way it's designed makes for a frustrating round for golfers of all skill sets. The holes are dumb and gimmicky. They try to be so much tougher than they should be.
Thank you for your review. We hope to see you back for another round soon!
Fun
Fun links style course. Starter was very sarcastic and rude. Talked to us like we never played golf before. Conditions were okay. Greens were firm even after a lot of rain. Didn't roll real smooth. There are large fairways and were in pretty good condition.
Thank you for your review. We apologize if anyone of our staff came across as disrespectful, I assure you that was not our intention. We hope to see you back for another round soon!
A Must Play Course
This course tests all aspects of your game and you must think your way around this course if you expect to score well. Just a magnificent layout in excellent condition in very close proximity to the city. Very reasonably priced. The value is unparalleled.
Thank you for your great review! We are so happy to hear how much you enjoyed your experience at Lost Marsh and we look forward to seeing you for your next one!
Pace of play!!!!
This is my 5th time playing this course this year. I play during the week in the mornings for a faster pace of play. This morning we played behind 2 foursomes that were playing from the TIPS. After nearly a 3 hour front 9. I made a call to the clubhouse to ask if they could do something about the pace of the gentleman in front of us. The ranger came out and not much changed. After the round I went in the clubhouse and said that a 5 plus hour round on a Tuesday morning in unacceptable. You should not play from the TIPS of your next shot is from the forward tees and never hitting a par 3 in regulation. Horrible just plain horrible.
Thank you for your review. We apologize your round took longer than you would have liked, we realize how important pace of play can be to your overall experience. We appreciate that you called into the clubhouse for assistance. We hope to see you back for another round soon!
Your review means a lot to us! Thank you so much for playing at Lost Marsh. Can't wait to see you back again.
