South Shore Golf Club
About
South Shore Golf Club was formerly a private nine-hole course but now it is part of the Chicago Park District Golf collection, which features five other courses. Although it is seemingly out of the way, tucked in the southeast corner of the Chicago metro area, it is one of the most affordable rounds you'll find in the area. Through the stands of mature trees, golfers can catch glimpses of Lake Michigan. The carefully preserved landscape has earned the golf course recognition as an Audubon Cooperative Sanctuary. The par-33 layout features tree-lined fairways and small greens. It's a golf course that requires accuracy but it's not overly punishing for high handicappers. South Shore Golf Club is a great course if you're looking to get some short game practice or squeeze in a quick round.

Good to exciese
Good
Budget Friendly, Best View of the Skyline, a Local Gem
South Shore is a great community course. It’s approachable with nine holes, a fun layout, and some of the best city views you’ll find anywhere—arguably the best in Chicago. The course has been making steady improvements, which are definitely needed and appreciated. I especially love the addition of the new chipping and putting area, as well as the welcoming new driving range. My hope is to see continued investment in maintaining the quality of the fairways and greens. That said, for the price, you really can’t beat the e
Very underwhelming
Do not expect to be able to have a cart (or push cart) available. They have about 6 for the entire course. There was about a 30 minute backup off the tee due to slow pace of play and 0 enforcement on the course.
Good choice
I play this course most of all. Always a challenge.
Dangerous
Almost got hit by a ball 3x while playing 9 holes. Took 20min to play each hole!! Clearly overcrowding the course and no pace of play enforced
Legendary, historical south side course
Decent course. First 4 par 4’s can be sort of miserable, with the wind they can play like par 5’s. Holes 5-9 are awesome. The par 3 on the slope is a very tricky hole, requires pin point placement. Overall a great course, especially if you can play it for less than $20.
A beautiful day in the neighborhood
Love/hate this course. It makes you understand what strategic play - ball placement is. Going back to keep working
Upgrade
I delighted to report the Chicago park district has invested in a new practice facility and sprinkler system. It's a real plus for the overall experience. When all repair work has grown over the damage caused by construction it will be an even better 9 hole course
Risky Course if you Slice
Course conditions were good and staff was very friendly. No range and no practice green was brutal. If you slice your tee shot, you could easily hit a car, person or building every single hole which is stressful. And they have a sign that says you’re responsible for any damage, etc. which also adds to the stress.
Great Value
I love this course because it’s right near the lake. Friendly staff and course is in great shape. Can’t beat the price!
Nice hidden gem
The fairways and greens were in really good shape. Other players kept up pace of play and was very friendly. would definitely come back due to the value.
