About

Holes 18
Type Public
Par 71
Length 6936 yards
Slope 136
Rating 74.1

One of the best public facilities in Texas, Texas Star is ironically located in the middle of an industrial area, yet somehow sports the natural look and feel of the Hill Country. Designed by Keith Foster, this is a tough course with numerous hazards, immaculate conditions, and many unique holes.

Foster’s design tips out at 6,936 yards and is a par 71. Hurricane Creek traverses the landscape, and the old oaks that line the course offer the perfect respite from the surrounding industrial community.

No. 15 is one of the better holes--a 37-yarder highlighted by a green-fronting pond and waterfall. The fairway is split due to the hazard, and a solid tee shot of at least 220 yards is required to carry the falls.

Another great hole is the scenic 179-yard No. 16, which plays downhill and is framed by a rock-lined creek on the right. No. 18 is a nice ender, going 535 yards with water everywhere. Leave yourself a short-iron approach, since the green is protected by a creek.

Note that the course is closed on Tuesdays, and in the summer the club is known to limit play to 100 golfers per day. And while some complain that it this is a cart-path-only course, the condition of the fairways more than makes up for the inconvenience.

Getting there : From the Dallas-Fort Worth Airport, take Hwy, 183 west to Hwy, 157. Drive south to Hwy. 10 and turn right. The entrance is 1 mile down and visible from the highway.

Wicked fast greens

This course was in very good condition but the greens where hard and fast. Had trouble hitting GIR. The crazy hills and blind shots made for a fun day.

Nice layout

The course was very fair but still challenging. There are plenty of opportunities to be aggressive but you will be penalized for poor shots.

Top 5 in public courses

Texas Star has always been at the top of the list of public golf. In order to keep it that way, they charge a high price in comparison. If you can get a value coupon, grab the chance to play. The greens were not as fast as in the past. They started with bent grass, but as almost any public course comes to realize, it is too hard to keep up with the weather and volume of play. The new hybrid grass is filling in and with a little more time, they can get the speed up. The Jeff Brauer design is carved from pure wilderness and fantastic. It is really challenging but fair to a good shot. If you have a hard time keeping it in the fairway, move up one set of tees and club down. You will enjoy it more. Remember, snakes live in tall grass.

1st time

This was my first time playing and many people recommended this course. Was a challenging and fun course with many elevation changes and untouched in terms of not lined with houses left and right. Course was just aerated but really didn't come into effect but still pricey for the condition. White sand bunkers and challenging greens. Road bisecs course and can be noisey but worth it for the beauty of the course.

Texas Star

The greens were still a little bit sandy from them being punched earlier in the month but still a great experience. It is one of the top public courses in Dallas for a reason. Pace of play was excellent and the practices areas are top notch. For the course, I felt like I robbed the pro shop at $32.

Slow

It's a great course and I love the layout. The only thing was that the fairways had recently been punched and the greens were a little inconsistent. The pace of play was glacial, we waited 20 min before we could tee off every hole. Other than that, great course. Probably my favorite or second favorite course in DFW

Excellent layout

Greens were recently aerated. However, have heard they are typically excellent in speed and consistency. Played the back tees and had several blind shots (~12 of the 18). Enjoyed the round and layout. Would play here again!

Greens are sanded 6-12-15

It would be nice to be notified by the course or Golf Now that something is under repair. Generally you have to call them before you book.

As stated, greens have extreme sand on them. If the wind blows 15mph or more from the south, you can expect a big stink from the nearby landfill. front nine stunk like diapers. Bad.

Course conditions are good with many courses finally getting a second mow since the rains.

Punched Greens and rough

We love Texas Star and feel that it's a premier public course in the area. Unfortunately, the greens and rough were punched this week and made for a playing experience far less than expectations. Had we known the greens and rough were just punched we most likely would have delayed playing Texas Star by a week or so.

Aerification

The confirmation noted, "Aerification special. To me that means bumpy putts. To Texas Star that means the front 9, putting green, and chipping green are closed. I won't make that mistake again.

Beautiful course. The new greens are very firm. You really need backspin to keep the approach shot on the green.

Risk and Reward

Great challenging course - you really get punished if you miss the fairways. New bunker sand is really nice and the same for each hole. Fairways were in great shape as were the greens. We played in the afternoon and was only a 3.5 hr. round

Best Public Golf Course in North Texas

Texas Star has become a favorite course for me and several of my friends. The facilities are outstanding, the staff is wonderful, and if you don't stick around for a chicken fried steak after your round of golf, you're doing yourself a disservice.

We live in the heart of Dallas and choose to take the 30 minute drive out to Euless because this course is that good. It is in excellent shape. The rainfall we've had this spring has been wonderful for the fairways and rough areas, but the maintenance staff has still managed to keep the greens firm and fast.

Do yourself a favor and get out to Texas Star. You can book tee times on their website, and they often have great deals (we played for $45 on a Sunday afternoon). You will not regret your decision to play Texas Star.

Very Nice Course

Played a 4 person scramble in a company event...the course was in excellent shape...nice and green...the greens were a little hard, hit the greens with high wedge shots and left no divots.
