Lakes at Firewheel Golf Park
About
The Lakes Course at Firewheel is a links-style course that is loaded with water, and was a Dick Phelps creation on his return to Garland in 1987. Hole 7 is the most difficult–a long 549-yard par 5 that requires an approach over a pond.
Getting there : From Dallas, take Hwy. 75 north and exit Arapaho. Turn right and when you come to N. Garland Ave., turn left. Drive to W. Blackburn Rd. and turn west. The course is just down the road.

I t was a nice round.
Played such a good condition course with nice price from Golf now hot deal.
the lakes
Course was in great shape. Greens played terrific. Los of people on the course and still finished in 4 hours. Range under construction and could not locate a warm-up chipping area. Has a good time and will certainly go back.
Nice Layout
Really enjoyed the golf. Although the course is not in the best shape the layout was good and overall the experience was very good. Staff is great!
Very good course
Very good course I would play it at anytime.
Thanks for the golf now discount it gave the opportunity so I can play.
Tuff course.
Good but tuff course. The greens were in great shape. The fairways are in fairly good shape also.
Great course
Firewheel Lakes course is an excellent golf course and is in very good condition for this time of year. The greens were fast and smooth and you had to hit the ball in the in the fairway to have a chance at a good score. Lots of water and traps.
Firewheel The Lakes Aril 2014
No clubhouse at turn, several fairways under repair
Fun course, needs water
Greens were in good shape.
Fairways need more water. too many hard pans, just dirt
Cargirl was no where to be seen.
Challenging course, always a fun round
Challenging layout with lots of water and a few blind tee shots. This course is in good shape for early Spring. There is some construction on the driving range and near some of the holes. Pace of play is usually pretty good since they have 3 courses at Firewheel. I played as a single and finished in 3 hours.
Can be a tough course
The club house advertised food was available as the kitchen was under construction. Burt when I tried to order a hamburger 2 different times they were out of burgers. They were bringing them from the other course. Why not cook them on a grill there ? I played here twice this week, and played hungry both times. Otherwise it was a good day of golf.
Firewheel - The Lakes
My firs time at Firewheel and truly enjoyed it. It was challenging yet fun. The course is is good shape and I'm sure with warmer weather coming it will become even better. Looking forward to another round next week!
great courses at great prices
Sherrill park has two PGA sanctioned courses and with multiple tee boxes on both courses any golfer of any skill set would enjoy the easy stroll of course one and a good challenge to advanced players on course two. The deal I paid for was close to a dollar each hole with tax it was still under $20. If you enjoy walking while you play then course one is just your course. Short, challenging, and yet an opportunity to shoot low with great fairways and greens.
green condition is very good
march 9 , all view is brown color but, white sand bunkers and green condition was very good.
Fire wheel lakes
Mixture of tight and open fairways. Bunkers and water made for challenging play.
Lots of ground under repair or in need of repair
Play the Bridges not the Lakes course. The Lakes course is seriously run down and old.
Solid Muni
Never understand why this course doesn't use the P.A. to call players and no starter at the first tee of either course. It's a free for all with players having to ask each other what tee time they have or just get in line.
The Old Course was opened in "83" and The Lakes in "87" and I've played both many times in the last 30 years. You would think by now they would have a decent teeing ground at the range. Long grass and loose dirt is the case in spring, summer, fall. Range tee is huge and has so much potential. New bunkers at The Lakes are great and very consistent.
wished we'd gone somewhere else.
Arrived about 25 minutes early, and saw my playing partner on the range. Checked in, staff told me my partner had a cart. Lugged clubs to practice area, and discovered no cart. Went back, retrieved cart and lined up. No beer cart, crowded and a course being repaired. It needs it. The Number 8 tee was marked "17, " which I guess adds up to 8 (1+7). Price should have reflected conditions. Wished we played somewhere else.
Fun...if they're not busy...
Played a solo round out here and while you'd expect there to be some waiting behind a threesome we simply plodded along to the tune of 2 1/2 hours before I reached the turn. Given that there were several spots where there were 3 groups a time on par 4s I thought I'd simply go around a couple of holes but I discovered that the course was stacked for several holes ahead.
The course had some unexpected elevation changes and was generally an interesting layout that I hope to play again without the frustration of the crowd that probably was just the result of everyone having family in town for the holiday weekend.
Excellent course but...
The course is a really tough course. Putting is a challenge. The course is in excellent shape. But they just book too many people too close together.
Got there on a Tuesday morning and had to wait to tee off in front of two groups.
It was wait and hit the entire 5 hours... I would not recommend due to extremely poor pace of play.
It's hard enough as it is without having to worry about the wait constantly.
Great Course
This course was very fun and had lots of bunkers and water. Will be back out here again.
