Lakes at Firewheel Golf Park
About
The Lakes Course at Firewheel is a links-style course that is loaded with water, and was a Dick Phelps creation on his return to Garland in 1987. Hole 7 is the most difficult–a long 549-yard par 5 that requires an approach over a pond.
Getting there : From Dallas, take Hwy. 75 north and exit Arapaho. Turn right and when you come to N. Garland Ave., turn left. Drive to W. Blackburn Rd. and turn west. The course is just down the road.

Great Course
This course was very fun and had lots of bunkers and water. Will be back out here again.
The Lakes course is well laid out.
The Lakes course has a good blend of challenges and forgiveness depending on the type of golfer you are. A good track to play again.
1st Time to Play Firewheel - Lakes
Great greens for a local drought. Fairways are sweet. Well laid out course with only 2 holes "forced" into the terrain. Staff was very professional and the food was good.
Good course, well taken care of
course is well taken care of, moderatly challenging, and great overall feel during play. We were not rushed even with it being the weekend. Will certainly play here again
Good value for the price, pretty course !
I really enjoy playing Firewheel courses, all five tracts are worth the trip !!
Great course. Don't play until they've eliminated fly infestation
Normally a very enjoyable course, but two big drawbacks on this round:
1) Local HS golf team was on-course for front 9; at least 10 groups on foot really slowed down play; prevented completion of 18.
2) Biting flies pestered us the entire round; had hoped it was just a swarm on the first couple of holes, but we were bitten throughout the 15 holes we managed to complete
Course is in great shape. To many HACKERS/NO MARSHALLS
Firewheel has filled in some bunkers to make the Lakes course easier to play and score as well as reworked the remaning bunkers... The fairways are green and the course condition is great. Only drawback is the pace of play. I could not finished the 18 holes, had to go back and repaly 2-9... There are a lot of players out on the course that can't hit a golf ball... they should not be on the course... The 4some in front of us had play stacked up in both direction because they were in playing from 3 FAIRWAYS....and giving golf lessons. Several times I waited for the 4some in front to clear and a cart form another fairway would appear and slowy line up/shoot distance and play his ball from my fairway.... course was filled with IDIOTS. And to compound the slow play we never saw a Marshall.
Lakes Course Very Challenging
Probably wont play lakes again for awhile Not because it isnt nice, but because its just too tough for my limited skills...
Great course
Great course, very difficult but fun. A lot of water and large bunkers.
Not bad for the shape it is in.
Firewheel lakes course is a nice course but they are doing some up grades, so it is a little bit of a mess in some ares. I hope it is completed soon. The most frustrating thing about the course is the lack of yardage markers.
Firewheel Lakes Review
Course was in good shape on the tee boxes and greens.
There were several holes that fairway and greenside bunkers were under repair. There was no mention of this repair work when I checked in at the clubhouse. I had a great Hot Deal price on a Monday afternoon so I got a fantastic value. If I had paid full price for a round with the in progress bunker work I would have been a bit annoyed.
Over booked tee times and a lot of construction obsticles
The course was over booked and we were 25-30 minutes late getting off the 1st tee. Very frustrating that the course was under construction. LARGE mounds of dirt dumped in the middle of a fairway & no sand in the bunkers added to the frustration. Once everything in complete it will be nice, but currently not worth the green fees
The lakes
I play here more often than any other course in the area. The courses are challenging yet reasonably priced.
Great layout, always a fun course to play!
Played the Lakes Course with two buddies Friday, Fairways, Tee boxes were perfect. However, there were a few caveats, greens had recently been punched so putting was rather tedious, and the bunkers are all under repair. I would definitely play here again, maybe wait a few months though.
This course is not in good condition
When I called to tell them we were going to be a little late, I was told they were short on golf carts anyway. When we got there, they accommodated us with a later tee time and there were a few golf carts available. Play was very slow on the front 9 but sped up on the back 9. Fairways were not in good condition. Greens were so-so. Sand traps were under major maintenance. They were putting in drainage systems, and balls were getting caught beneath the pipes. At the turn, we asked where the cart girls were and were told "We sent her home." This made no sense, as there were plenty of people out on the course. This was the Lakes Course, the others might be in better condition. We were so turned off by the whole situation, that we probably won't return to Firewheel for a while.
Great bang for the buck
I played the Lakes course. Fun, interesting, and pretty course. Only complaint is that they are installing new bunkers. But, that is temporary and should be done soon. Nice layout, a lot of water hazards along the fairways, but no crazy long forced carries over water. I have also payed the Bridges course, and though nicer, I think Lakes is a better value. Great pace of play both times I have played at Firewheel.
The greens were in great shape!
The fairways and greens were in great shape! You can tell that they were well watered! We plan on playing this course again in the near future!
Loved the course layout
Very positive experience. Three things prevented an excellent rating.
1. Tremendous amount of work going on. (bunkers, etc.)
2. No marshalls in sight. As a result, several holes with long waits with 3 groups on one hole.
3. 100 degree day, with no cart girls at all.
