Firewheel is Texas’ most impressive example of municipal golf. Owned and operated by the city of Garland, and extremely popular because of the fair price and number of available golf holes, Firewheel now sports 63 holes since the new Bridges course opened in the past few years. All three tracks can be challenging because they each incorporate a variety of hazards into their designs, including limestone that is scattered throughout the property.
The Old Course, the traditional layout, was rated No. 1 by the Dallas Morning News. Water hazards come into play throughout the design, such as on hole #18, a 400-yard, par 4, requiring a tee shot and an approach shot over the same creek, which winds through the hole. Hole 9 is the feature hole, a 552-yard par 5 that rolls downhill. The tee shot is into a narrow landing area carved out of trees, and on the approach you must be in perfect position because of the strategically placed pecan trees. Number 18 is challenging with both the tee shot and the approach over a creek that winds through the hole.

As expected
Mid-winter in north texas as expected. Liked the length of the course and the old-school CC layout. Pretty confusing on-course navigation for first-time player and quite a bit of major construction going on. Having said that looking forward to going back in the spring to see how it plays when its green
Old Course
Course was in great shape for this time of year, greens are as good as they have ever been.
Great customer service
I would like to commend the staff at the course. They like they make everything very enjoyable and very pleasant to play. I would recommend this course to all my family members and Friends, keep up the good work.
Course in great shape!
The course is in great shape although the lack of bunker rakes makes for some tough lies. Good pace of play and the staff was very friendly.
"Old" but still challenging
Bathroom facility is near end of #2 and #6 (it's the same one). Edges of the green were occasionally burnt out/dry but the greens otherwise were in great shape. Golf carts do come with USB chargers.
A big tree in the left rough can come into play on the approach on #13. There is a narrow entry to the fairway on #16 and you must stay left because of the large body of water between it and #18.
The tee shot on the dogleg left 18th is usually purposed for giving one an angle for the approach to the green.
Firewheel Old Course
I've live in Dallas for 35 years. First time to play Firewheel Won't be my last. For a municipal course, it was in good shape and was very playable. Greens are very slow, but that's local knowledge a new player needs to understand. Very fun. Loved meeting new friends.
Solid Saturday Round
Enjoyed the weekend rates! Was able to grab a round for $45.00! This is unheard of especially on a holiday weekend. Loved that! Pace of play was also fantastic. Will give this course consideration when looking for an affordable weekend round.
Nuce short course
Great greens, the pace was perfect. No signal of drinks or snacks on course. The bathrooms on course could use some TLC.
