Not Good
The course lost the 1st 2 greens in the freeze and have apparently not made any effort to remedy that, because that was 10 months ago now. Even I can grow grass in that amount of time. There are really no amenities. The tee boxes need a lot of work and they need signs on the course that tell you where the next hole is. Some of the hole markers themselves are missing too.
Can’t do it anymore
I like the course, but just don’t understand why they overbook. 8 minutes between tee times causes the course to stack up. 5+ hour round is common due to too many golfers out at once. We often sit at the tee box 2 groups deep waiting our turn. I would happily pay the price if the tee times were 12 minutes a part.
Course
Greens on first few holes were sandy and not well maintained. Most of the rest were in great shape and firm and fast. Wasn’t in the bunkers but they could use sand.
Mixed Bag at Duck Creek
Duck Creek delivers in some areas and fails miserably elsewhere. 16 of the 18 greens were in excellent shape, while the greens on the first 2 holes were atrocious, probably the worst I've ever played (and I've played some goat ranches in my days!). Carts are notably nice. Layout is fun, but weird in spots. 9 and 18 are strange holes.
Starter, Marshall and Bev Cart staff were very friendly, but the Pro Shop team was surly. Due to a 38F "frost delay" (and pro shop's crowd mis-management) created a total mess in the pro-shop Sat AM. Dude overcharged me by $3, I didn't care. I just wanted to get out of there and get going. I'll come back, just not on a Saturday AM.
A cut above a Goat pasture
Staff was indifferent. - almost surly. Guy with the keys to cart barn isn’t shown up, he didn’t really care, round was delayed by 29 minutes. No big deal as had a 7:09 tee time. First two greens were unplayable, under construction/repair. Tee boxes were “under repair” but temp boxes had unmowed grass higher than your driver tee pegs. You better pay attention to the map to know which way you’re supposed to go, too. The bright spot is the 16 other greens were fantastic and the course itself fun for a change of pace. But, Yiu can find better if you’re willing to drive a few miles.
Goat ranch with flags
This course is in incredibly rough shape. First two greens are completely out of commission, and many of the tee boxes are the same. I would consider playing here again for $25 but not for $50/person after tax. Could be a decent course with TLC.
I want to say it is getting better
This former gem in the city of Garland has lost most of its luster over the years. With the exception of the 1st and 2nd greens being out of commission due to fungus, the rest of the greens were in really good shape. They rolled well and held well if you hit the right shot into them. The rest of the course is in desperate need of water and TLC. Many of the teeboxes are in some maintenance mode or they are rock hard ground so good luck getting a tee down. The fairways have decent grass but with how dry it is many shots will not stay in the fairway unless hit right down the middle. Still a fun little layout, just wish this former gem could one day shine again.
Course Review
Course was a great play. Pace was very comfortable as there were few people. Fairways were in decent condition, greens were fast, but I guess lack of rain will wreak havoc on any course. Will play again.
