The original Squaw Valley course, Apache Links, opened in 1992–a Jeff Brauer design that is open on the front and more densely wooded on the back. Brauer’s work involved bringing in dirt to provide some mounding to the flat terrain, and he placed the course along a scenic creek that comes into play, mostly on the back.

No. 9 is the best hole on the front because of its split fairway. Macho men can go for the green by aiming over the lake–otherwise it plays a pedestrian 362 yards if you choose the left side, where it doglegs around the lake.

On the back, Nos. 15 and 16 are back-to-back par 4s that you’ll be glad to get out of the way. The 15th rolls 462 yards and doglegs right, requiring a tee shot over the creek. The long approach is especially challenging due to the long row of trees at the corner of the green. Hole 16 features an elevated green above Squaw Creek. Play for position off the tee because the hole is not long.

Great December Day

Warm but windy day but the Links course was in great shape for winter play. Enjoyed the day, pace of play was good even though the course was busy due to the 80-degree December day. Will return again soon.

Big Turnover in Staff = Not Good

Been coming here last 3 years or so, one of my favorites. That being said, the Pro Shop Staff and a lot of the beverage cart personnel have gotten a case of the stupids over the last 6 months roughly. Somedays they charge for carts even when you’ve already paid for tee time, some days they don’t. Then some days they won’t even let you rent a cart if you don’t want to ride with that weird stranger that won’t shut up the entire round.

This course has well over 125 carts, and hoard them all for some reason. The course is very robust, so it’s not an issue of course degradation. I think the management are just being Cheese D@@ks.

Cart service has been very touch and go, with drink favorites never being stocked on carts, and not even seeing them until hole 14+, which is pointless. Start at 1 and work forward, not seeing if someone wants drinks on their FINAL hole.

Management needs to hire more consistent staff, that aren’t high schoolers or college age that basically make the rules up as they go, and don’t know the course rules and guidelines. Bad service are business killers.

Get it together SV! Used to be really good, now not so much. Hire people who care and have half a brain.

For "winter" golf, it's in great condition

Some of the greens had small bare/thin patches and a few of the bunkers could use a work-over, but, MAN, this course is wonderful and the staff are the absolute best. I play here at least 2x per month and I won't stop.

Could’ve been better

The first two holes are basically on the driving range, so it is extremely dangerous and the fairways of both holes at littered with range balls.

The course itself is fairly wide open, especially the front 9, which is nice but it looks like they just put tons of huge, round dirt piles up and then planted seed on them so it’s not much of a natural terrain.

Pace was good, greens were sketchy in spots, just brown areas and one had a small recession with dirt.

Hot dog at the turn was delicious and the staff was very friendly. It was warm and inviting. I got a great deal on the round, otherwise I’d be much more unhappy

Great layout

Fun course. Can be challenging from the back tees. It’s usually in good shape and has a good practice facility.
