Squaw Valley Golf Course - Apache Links Course

About
The original Squaw Valley course, Apache Links, opened in 1992–a Jeff Brauer design that is open on the front and more densely wooded on the back. Brauer’s work involved bringing in dirt to provide some mounding to the flat terrain, and he placed the course along a scenic creek that comes into play, mostly on the back.
No. 9 is the best hole on the front because of its split fairway. Macho men can go for the green by aiming over the lake–otherwise it plays a pedestrian 362 yards if you choose the left side, where it doglegs around the lake.
On the back, Nos. 15 and 16 are back-to-back par 4s that you’ll be glad to get out of the way. The 15th rolls 462 yards and doglegs right, requiring a tee shot over the creek. The long approach is especially challenging due to the long row of trees at the corner of the green. Hole 16 features an elevated green above Squaw Creek. Play for position off the tee because the hole is not long.

Love this track
Always enjoy playing both courses here. Pace of play is always good. Conditions are usually good to great. Right now they are really, really good and will only get better with cooler weather coming. Greens held well and putted true. Fairways and tee boxes are in great shape. Would like to leave a bad review so that it doesn’t get busy, but wouldn’t be fair.
Friendly staff, great facility with 36 holes, and very well maintained.
The Links
Managed to get a tee time on short notice at a course I never played at before. What was surprising is twhen checking in the staff were not real informative on giving you information. Got a small bucket of balls and asked were did it get them and said outside the door. Go out there and there are no buckets so go back into get the bucket. Bring it to the cart and there's not keys. So go back in and ask for a key. Then drive out to the range and when going to the first tee did not realize it was 36 holes so had to go back tot the pro shop to find out which course I was playing. There was no one at the first tee to ask.
The grass on the course was recently mowed and was real long to trying to find a ball in the rough was not the easiest thing.
Greens were recently aerated and slow but that can be expected as important summertime maintenance.
A simple thing like range finder reflectors on the pins was not available which made it difficult trying to get a distance.
The Ladies on the drink carts and in restaurant were great. Friendly and good to talk to.
The front 9 was a links type course but was pretty boring and easy if you hit the tee shot straight. Back 9 had more trees and water which was more interesting and challenging.
Overall was.a good experience but could have been better with some more info when checking in.
At $25 was great value with cart but would not play it if I had to pay more than $55.
