Golfer Reviews
Challenging, beautiful course.
Great course in great condition with difficult pin placements make for a fun day.
Great course, bad service
This course was awesome! As great as the course was, the staff was just as bad. I had several friends come in from out of town and the attitude that we received was extremely inappropriate. Perhaps my friends were used to "southern hospitality", but regardless, I was also disappointed. In any case, the course was amazing so we didn't allow it to ruin our experience. :-)
Slow Play, Great Staff
Pace of play was slow from the 1st hole to the 18th. Our foursome was set behind a single, who was set behind a foursome. We joined up as a fivesome and still were held up on each tee and fairway. I enjoyed the layout of the course, conditions were excellent. Good value for the money even with a discounted tee time.
HEAT INDEX 105
Played OC on Friday, 18 Aug 17; 1240 Tee time. The course was really wet from the previous 2-3 days of rain in the area (Bowie, Md). It was cart path only so that made it really challenging due to the heat. We (4 foursome) played in just under 5 hours but the cart path rule contributed to that. Did not see may other groups on the course. Played OC week prior and we waited on the entire back 9 and no course ranger to move folks along (only negative I can say about the management). Bar staff very friendly, Pro shop just the same. They offered free cold water bottles at turn due to heat as water on course probably not staying cold in their water coolers. Beers and Gatorade prices at turn were extremely reasonable.
Challenging track
The service personnel were exceptional . The driving range good, though you cannot hit driver on it. That was disappointing. Practice putting green could be larger.
Course was in pretty good shape. You've got to be on you toes and focus, as this course provides challenges. But that is what every golfer should be seeking.
Great course in Maryland suburb
Had a fantastic golfnow hot deal for 32.00. My wife's first playing the course and she was impressed with the conditions. The front 9 and back 9 are completely different (front 9 relatively flat and back 9 hilly) Had a good time. Will play again!
Overall our foursome had an excellent time. Staff was superior, course was great and enjoyed the restaurant. Definitely will visit again.
one of best on MD
when i play this course, every time best condition and delightful layout.
Took 6 hours to play. Called club house on 10th green as there was a 5some that caused 4 groups waiting on the tee box- nothing done.
GREAT COURSE BUT TERRIBLE CUSTOMERS
The conditions at Oak Creek are always top notch due to hard work of the staff. The problem here (like every other course in the general vicinity) is the customers that have no idea what the term "golf etiquette" means when it comes to a players responsibility for taking care of the golf course. In short, the overwhelming majority of customers don't know how to 1. fix divots in the fairways and 2. repair ball marks on the green.
Most courses have divot mix on the carts for a reason but management has removed that option because customers were either filling them improperly or just not doing it whatsoever. The greens are completely pocked with ball marks that were never repaired or improperly repaired. Watch a couple examples on how to fix ball marks on youtube before you head out to any course and help stomp out this problem.
Review
Course was in good shape and greens were fast. Staff very helpful and friendly. Pace of play was very slow, probably due to the tournament that went out in front of us. Other than that a great experience.
great course for the price. Highly recommended.
Oak Creek is an exception course. Friendly and knowlegable staff. The greens do not break as much as one would think.
Played here a few times before, and now twice in 2017.
Conditions are great, some of the best in the area and the nicest shape I've seen Oak Creek in over the past couple of years. I've always liked the hole variety and mix of challenge at this course.
Oak Creek presents players with some very "get-able" holes, including the par-4 1st, which requires just a fairway wood and wedge to a generous green, and the 4th, where longer hitters can cut off the dogleg to put the ball within 100 yds of the green.
But you can't sleep on this course, woods lurk on many tee shots, and greens are well guarded enough to bring bogey and double into play with poorly executed shots.
I really enjoy the back side, with three par 3s and three par 5s. The 11th is a favorite, a downhill par 3 to a large tiered green with no bunkers, just steep slopes and closely-mown grass.
The first time I played this year, everything went well. This Saturday (the 20th) the pace was abysmal--three groups waiting on some tees. The marshal drove through the course a few times, but I would expect them to have a staff member out there facilitating play (urging players to wave up on par 3s, etc.). The six-hour pace was infuriating, and I hope it can be resolved.
Almost great
The actual course itself is I believe one of the better courses in the immediate area, e.g., enterprise, Glendale, lake presidential, renditions. The experience was not as great. 5+ hour round on a Tuesday morning without a warning is ridiculous. You also need sand boxes on the tees or on the carts. You should also inform your greenskeepers that they should NOT continue to mow around the green when there is a group on the green putting. Good course but if you want be one of the better courses in the area, you also have to play the part.
