Crystal Falls Golf Course
About
While it hasn't received as much publicity as the other Hill Country tracks since it opened around 1990, Crystal Falls Golf Club is definitely worthy of praise. Highlighted by one of the greatest par 3s in Texas and some outstanding topography, this is one of those courses you'll want to play at least once, if only for the views. In addition to the scenery, the main thing everyone talks about here is the severely sloping fairways that provide problems for those who hit the ball left-to-right. The famous par 3 in question is the 192-yard 11th, featuring a phenomenal view and a 200-yard drop to the green. Club selection is a crap-shoot at best, and the green is surrounded by mounds.

11th Hole at Crystal Falls Golf Course, Leander TX Photo submitted by wshowers on 12/02/2012
Good course, but...
It had been a minute since playing Crystal Falls, but was able to get a good tee time that worked with my other weekend plans. Course was in good shape, except that the tee on #2 was being worked on, so we had to hit off a mat. The bar/grill is closed, so THERE IS NO ALCOHOL AT THE COURSE. Overall, a good value for the money and a good course to play, just come prepared 😉
Marshall needs to enforce pace of play. If it means telling an entire group to pick up there ball then so be it. There is no excuse to be 40 mins behind pace at 9 holes and see 2 groups waiting on 10 tee. We quit at 10 after 3 hours. 💯 on starter and marshall. Other than that good course
Crystal Falls
Enjoyed this course. However, with no snack shop and the awful pace of play yesterday, it may be a while before I go back.
First time playing
Google maps doesn’t give you an accurate understanding of the terrain. This course has a lot of slopes and side hill lies to contend with. There’s enough water on it to present an issue if you’re not striking the ball well during your visit. Green speeds weren’t as fast as some of the other Texas courses I’ve recently played. Pace of play was slow (nearly a 5 hour round) and expect that’s because the course is no slouch. I did just miss out on Eagling the 479yd par 5 - 12th hole by 3 inches.
Hopefully I’ll get the chance to play here again with me now having a better understanding of the course. Just hope the pace of play will be better.
Zero Amenities
Course itself was pretty good, but the services were bare bones. There was no alcohol available, and no food or beverage other than a minimal selection in the pro shop. The range was OK but was mats only.
Nice layout and great views from some elevated teeboxes. They've had watering restrictions but the course was in decent shape and the greens rolled nice. They need to get their liquor license back to see me again though!
Track has potential
Nice layout. 2 awesome par 3s. Greens are fairly fast but grass has not come in yet. The snack bar is shutdown which is huge if you want anything while there, looks like they are remodeling. Seems like the could get a cooler assuming they have the liquor license. It's a pretty tight course especially on the back. Challenging!!
Chrystal Falls Golf Course 3/18/24
To our groups surprise Chrystal falls was aerating the fairways so it was cart path only on all 18 holes. Also, the course no longer has any food or beverages in the clubhouse. This information would have been good to know in advance because two of us had nothing to eat or drink before arrival. We soon realized $42.00 for the round was not such a great weekday deal after all. We hope the City will continue to improve the conditions since the course layout is superb.
Hi Joe,
Apologies for the poor experience yesterday. We thought we'd sent out notifications, but it looks like we dropped the ball. We'll do our best to correct this in the future.
All the best,

Decent course with a major flaw.
Played March 2024. Arrived for tee time to find out that the course bar/grill shut down and no cart girl was available. So no coolers available and outside coolers not allowed. Also, no food available on the turn. This was not noted anywhere before booking. Course is good, just the amenities are lacking.
Great layout but tough
This course is an amazing, layout lots of elevation and beautiful, has no bunkers on the whole course, but the clubhouse needs to get their restaurant in order, because they did not even serve any alcohol whatsoever, and the staff were not the happiest to be around….
Good shape for just getting out of winter
Placement course- tough for players like me that are happy just to hit the green or fairways . Hardly any flat lies- even in fairway.
Wonderful
I’ve played every course within 30 miles of Austin under $100, and this is absolutely among the best. If you’re the kind of person who golfs just about every weekend, you absolutely need to throw this course into your rotation. Healthy greens, healthy fairways, fun changes in elevation— it’s got it all…. except bunkers. Which is nice. Great driving range too. For your money, it feels like an absolute steal.
Great again
The course is getting a little green and it played very well once again. The only draw back is their restaurant is being redone and is closed.
Seems like a strange time just before their busy season, doesn't seem to be smart.
We appreciate your feedback and apologize for any inconvenience the closure of our restaurant may have caused. Thank you for playing our course and we hope to welcome you back soon.
Good experience.. but could be better.
Pretty packed weekend afternoon tee time, but was able to finish in four hours- this is fantastic.
Some shortcomings...
We had some rain in the past couple of weeks and warm weather. I actually expected some green ups on the fairways, greens and tee boxes. The overseeded areas were green, but bermuda was still fairly dormant.
The issue was the hardness of the ground. Dormant grass + VERY hard muddy soil meant every shot you'll end up having a lot of mud left on your clubs, and balls bouncing/rolling to the areas where you don't think it would end up.
The course is relatively short (6654 yds from the tips) with A LOT of elevation changes. The elevation can be challenging and fun, but gets old very quick- two par threes that playing about 25-30 yrs shorter due to elevation change is just too much.
I don't think there is a single bunker on the course, but the areas where the other courses would have bunker- you have muddy hard pan waiting for your ball.
I think the course tries to make up for easy set up by giving a lot of slopes on the green. I have an app that shows the green slopes- it says most of the greens have min of 2-3 degrees, average of 5-7 degrees, some having over 9 degrees. To compensate for these extreme sloping areas, they keep it very slow. Now, the greens are bumpy, and people don't fix the pitch marks..
I love good challenging greens but if the hole can only be cut in the area of 4 degrees of slope... again, this is too much.
I like the elevation change, love the staff and the fast pace of play. But the hard-pan like fairways and putt-putt like greens aren't my cup of tea.
Thank you for your feedback and for highlighting the challenges of our course's terrain and conditions. We are looking into ways to improve the pace of play and hope to offer a faster round next time you visit.
