Crystal Falls Golf Course
About
While it hasn't received as much publicity as the other Hill Country tracks since it opened around 1990, Crystal Falls Golf Club is definitely worthy of praise. Highlighted by one of the greatest par 3s in Texas and some outstanding topography, this is one of those courses you'll want to play at least once, if only for the views. In addition to the scenery, the main thing everyone talks about here is the severely sloping fairways that provide problems for those who hit the ball left-to-right. The famous par 3 in question is the 192-yard 11th, featuring a phenomenal view and a 200-yard drop to the green. Club selection is a crap-shoot at best, and the green is surrounded by mounds.

11th Hole at Crystal Falls Golf Course, Leander TX Photo submitted by wshowers on 12/02/2012
Wonderful
I’ve played every course within 30 miles of Austin under $100, and this is absolutely among the best. If you’re the kind of person who golfs just about every weekend, you absolutely need to throw this course into your rotation. Healthy greens, healthy fairways, fun changes in elevation— it’s got it all…. except bunkers. Which is nice. Great driving range too. For your money, it feels like an absolute steal.
Great again
The course is getting a little green and it played very well once again. The only draw back is their restaurant is being redone and is closed.
Seems like a strange time just before their busy season, doesn't seem to be smart.
Good experience.. but could be better.
Pretty packed weekend afternoon tee time, but was able to finish in four hours- this is fantastic.
Some shortcomings...
We had some rain in the past couple of weeks and warm weather. I actually expected some green ups on the fairways, greens and tee boxes. The overseeded areas were green, but bermuda was still fairly dormant.
The issue was the hardness of the ground. Dormant grass + VERY hard muddy soil meant every shot you'll end up having a lot of mud left on your clubs, and balls bouncing/rolling to the areas where you don't think it would end up.
The course is relatively short (6654 yds from the tips) with A LOT of elevation changes. The elevation can be challenging and fun, but gets old very quick- two par threes that playing about 25-30 yrs shorter due to elevation change is just too much.
I don't think there is a single bunker on the course, but the areas where the other courses would have bunker- you have muddy hard pan waiting for your ball.
I think the course tries to make up for easy set up by giving a lot of slopes on the green. I have an app that shows the green slopes- it says most of the greens have min of 2-3 degrees, average of 5-7 degrees, some having over 9 degrees. To compensate for these extreme sloping areas, they keep it very slow. Now, the greens are bumpy, and people don't fix the pitch marks..
I love good challenging greens but if the hole can only be cut in the area of 4 degrees of slope... again, this is too much.
I like the elevation change, love the staff and the fast pace of play. But the hard-pan like fairways and putt-putt like greens aren't my cup of tea.
Great design and quality golf course
Course has considerable character. Solid Hill Country course that is efficiently operated. Course is in good condition especially considering time of year. Greenskeeper could use the public’s assistance in fixing their divots! Challenging holes abound, and layout within plenty of elevation changes provides uniqueness throughout. Had a great time!
Good again
Staff friendly as usual greens in good shape it's in dormant state so the fairways are brown and lies are extremely tight.. It was fun once again.
We are glad to hear that you had another fun experience at our golf course. Thank you for your feedback, we appreciate your support!
Nice Staff, Poor Course
Colby was very welcoming and the pace of play was 4 hours so thumbs up there. The course itself, after playing twice in 7 days, is just too....unlevel. Course elevation changes, sloping fairways and undulated greens make for postive challenges but can be overdone.... and that is the case here. When you add in hard/no grass fairways and mud/wet conditions suprisingly in a lot of other areas on the course it just makes for a lower overall experience level.
Thank you for your feedback. We appreciate your review and hope to see you again soon.
Carts have to be in at 6:15
We were unaware that our round would be cut short! We teed off at 2:20 and were paired with some inexperienced golfers. We maintained a reasonable place of play as we were occasionally waiting for the foursome ahead of us. We played through a rain shower and didn’t slow down for high winds. Our pairing even sat out 3-4 holes allowing my daughter and I to play some holes in 5-7 minutes. The Marshalls were nice, while being informative about pacing. All of that being said, we were abruptly ushered off of the course after 17. We were informed that all carts had to be returned no later than 6:15 which was sent as a RED ALERT on the cart GPS which we didn’t use bc we use GolfLogix app. The young man who drove out to clear at least 5 groups off of the course was abrupt and unapologetic. My simple point is this… if your pace of play isn’t enforced, you owe it to players teeing off after 1pm that they must head in at a specified time. If I had known we were paired up and our carts were due at 6;15, NO EXCEPTIONS, I could have made the decision to play 9 OR play until 6:15. I was given non of this info at check-in, GOS was turned off on my cart when I picked it up, and the staff was so rude at the end off the day. Just had us leaving with such a negative vibe.
We apologize for the inconvenience you experienced during your round. We understand that it can be frustrating to be abruptly ushered off the course without prior knowledge of the time limit for returning carts. We appreciate your feedback and will take it into consideration for improving our communication with players in the future. Thank you for bringing this to our attention.
Weather issues caused damage

Wow!
Really nice layout. This is a challenging course. with great elevation changes. If you are wanting to score low then this is not your course… but if you want a great golf experience with beautiful views this is the spot. We walked… it was quite the hike. I would definitely recommend getting a cart!
stonesg, thank you for your kind words! We hope to see you again at the course very soon for another 5-star experience. Thanks for choosing Crystal Falls Golf Course.
Carts
Their carts were down due to battery issues. Challenging course. Greens in great shape. Lil wet . But Texas needs the rain. Fairways pretty decent for winter golf.
