Crystal Falls Golf Course
About
While it hasn't received as much publicity as the other Hill Country tracks since it opened around 1990, Crystal Falls Golf Club is definitely worthy of praise. Highlighted by one of the greatest par 3s in Texas and some outstanding topography, this is one of those courses you'll want to play at least once, if only for the views. In addition to the scenery, the main thing everyone talks about here is the severely sloping fairways that provide problems for those who hit the ball left-to-right. The famous par 3 in question is the 192-yard 11th, featuring a phenomenal view and a 200-yard drop to the green. Club selection is a crap-shoot at best, and the green is surrounded by mounds.

11th Hole at Crystal Falls Golf Course, Leander TX Photo submitted by wshowers on 12/02/2012
What a Change from 1997
The course was amazing. I've not played it in 17 years. The changes were unbelievable. The greens were fantastic. The course was always challenging, but it was nice with the changes and great course condition. It's a great test of managing a course. I already have a tee time for next Saturday morning. My hat is off to the people behind the improvements....great job. Impressive!!!!
Could easily become my favorite course in NW Austin area
No rating for the food & beverage category because we didn't have a chance to stop after play to enjoy the facility.
Great time at Crystal Falls
greens are great since they aerated them two months ago. from tee to green the course is great. nothing to complain about
Tough course
Toughest course I've ever played. Made for a frustrating day but the course was in great shape. Hitting the green but having it roll off and into the water, not fun though. Lots of rocky lies if not on the fairway.
Decent, but way too difficult
The course was in decent condition, but the design is flawed. Many fairways feed the ball right off into the junk and are already narrow to begin with. On top of that, the greens are small too. If you're looking for a real challenge, then maybe you're a good candidate to check it out. If you're looking for a laid back and fun day of golf, then I would reconsider.
Good course!
In and Out, if you want to play and be at the front step of NATURE. This is the course to play.
Crystal fall
Nice scenery, great course. I enjoy playing here every time I come to Round Rock.
Surprised me.
I expected the course to be tricked up because of the terrain. pleasantly surprised. Very fair. GPS in the carts really helped. Lots of fun!!!
Scenic Course, A bit Challenging
Very Scenic Course, dramatic changes in elevation. There is some construction around the holes, you might hear some bulldozers working. Holes are not clearly marked but the GPS in the golf carts will give you information. Greens were fast that day.
Great scenic round of golf in hill country
A great day, great round of golf. Two buddies and I teed off at 1pm and were not pushed, nor slowed down for the entire round. The course was in good shape - the fairways just beautiful and greens rolled very true and fast. The greens are not real plush - but, should grow in later in the year - but, they held pretty good and rolled nicely. The staff was more than accomodating, and had nice chat with Chad, one of the pros. Will definately repeat - great value for a great golf course. Even if you are not golfer - just drive the course and see the beauty of the hill country and enjoy the splendid views.
Little things
This is an interesting little golf course in a beautiful little valley. It's a hilly property and the designer made good use of the elevation changes to present a variety of fun and challenging shots. However, the greens feature some rather severe sloped areas that make putting and chipping from above the hole borderline ridiculous at the stimp speed to which they were cut (9.5-10). They'd be fine at 7-8, but in saying that I realize the trend is toward really fast greens, even though 90% of golfers have no business trying to deal with them. And we wonder why pace of play is such an issue. But I digress. The old knock on this course was that a handful of the fairways cant so severely that it is virtually impossible to keep a tee shot in play. We had heard that issue had been addressed. Unfortunately, it hasn't. The same remedy that would make the greens more playable would also work for the fairways (i.e., let them grow a little longer), but no one must have thought of that, either. Lies were very tight and several fairways had pronounced into-the-rough runoff. Short of moving tons of dirt and completely redoing them, it would also be a good idea to at least put in some mounding, long bunkers or waste areas on the low sides of these fairways to mitigate the problem. It's a shame that very solvable problems which have existed since the course opened still exist because most of the golf course is fair and playable, and every hole is beautiful. It's the little things that make a high quality golf course, and despite everything this property has going for it, it's the little things that keep it from being one.
Crystal Falls Great and Senic views
Course was set up fair .but challenging as well. Play of pace was very good Greens were excellent. Course was maintained quite well. Will play here often.
Loved the course
Challenging and fun course. Some very cool elevated par 3's. Really liked the way the course was layed out. Greens were in good shape and very challenging.
The back 9 is short but challenging
The course is in good shape. The greens are quite sandy, slow, but true. The scenery and hill views lift the spirit of play. The back 9 is shorter in yardage than the front 9 but the fairways are much more narrow. About 4 or 5 of the fairways roll to a side, so, even a wide fairway plays more narrow. The cart has a range finding device which really made the round more enjoyable, this being my first time to play this course. I highly recommend playing Crystal Falls. It is especially well-suited to beginners and intermediate players.
Slow
Very slow play, people who do not understand how to play golf. Marshall that is a waste of time.
Very dry course
This is a nice course but way to dry out. Lost balls that rolled forever, (ridiculous) normally drive my tee shots go 270, was hitting 320 on this course. would hit a nice easy layup shot and watch it roll right off the edge of fairway into hazards. Clubhouse kept letting singles out, (That's flat horrible golf course management). by the 3rd single that came up on us we told him to join the twosome behind us or walk off the course, That we wern't going to let him play thru because it just causes everyone to wait and slows down the golf rounds. Bottom line is If they would water the fairways regularly and fire whoever is letting out singles it would be a great course.
Excellent Value, worth the drive
Sever undulating rolling terrain offers amazing views, challenging tee shots, and a true test to your golf game. The course is difficult but it is fair. All of the par fives are birdie holes as long as you keep the ball in the fairway off of the tee. The greens are quick, undulating and weren't holding approach shots well. However, they were punching not too long ago and hadn't fully recovered yet.
Fun course
Got a really cheap deal so headed out. Its a very tight course, not recommended for beginners or double digit handicapers. There are great views and the greens were in great condition.
First time players beware!
I had never played the course before, so some of me feedback relates. Course knowledge is a distinct advantage on most courses, but especially there! They have a LOT of hidden danger but the course is still a lot of fun. I look forward to returning and playing it again now that I know.
My only complaint is several greens and fairways were in bad shape.
Out of towners
Having never played the course before would play it different next time. Directions to some of the tee boxes were a little lacking. Can be trouble, but rewards a good shot.
