About
Iron Horse Golf Course is laid out in the floodplain of Fossil Creek, an area loaded with woods and a railroad that divides the property into three tracts. When Dick Phelps designed the golf course he loaded it with par 4s that are over 400 yards. This track has only two par 5s, but you'll get your money's worth as they are virtually impossible to reach in two. Iron Horse's best hole is the 462-yard, par-4 third hole, which is generally a bogey hole for the average golfer.

Too expensive for punched greens and slow play
Used to love this course. Since new management, prices high and conditions not good. Pro shop back to old men that have crappy attitudes.
Great condition for mid summer Texas golf
Had a 3:20 tee time, got there early as usual to use the range. Starter let us go off whenever we were finished as there weren’t many people out in the middle of the day. Course was in fantastic condition even considering we haven’t had rain in weeks. Greens were excellent. Definitely gonna be playing here more.

course was punched a week ago but yet when I booked. they said no. over priced. too bad, always liked this course. since new management took over, not great.
Tee Time Never Booked, Course in Horrid Shape, Slow Play
Because I will never book a tee time through a GolfNow website with the affiliated chosen course and I live in NRH I made the reservation through the pro shop days before today. When I arrived, they couldn’t find the tee time, they pushed the tee time back and charged us much more that what was discussed otp booking it. The driving range stance no matter where you hit balls was slanted down hill, the carts had zero steering, no power, the GPS/scorecard couldn’t boot up, even with help from iron Horse staff. This was the slowest course I’ve ever witnessed while the Marshall asked us if the GPS/scorecard said we were in the green on time, like that would make it okay, but again, it was never functional. He then said there that was a massive opening in front of the group in front of us,, which consisted of 3 male complete beginner golfers and a female who appeared to have never played before. When we jumped the group, the next holes were also backed up. The overall condition of the course completely sucked with grass missing in fairways, no sand or packed sand in the traps and the slowest punched greens I’ve seen in years. There was absolutely no quality and the play time, them not having the tee time, charging more to play and horrid course conditions, which means me and my group will never return. What a complete waste of our time and I would advice finding a better course venue in the area, which isn’t hard to do. What a joke post the supposed massive course revision supposed big time improvements.
Horrible pace of play
Pace of play is garbage took 5hrs to play 18 holes. Greens are punched paid premium price for green fees and the greens sucked had several hole where previous cups were not rixed properly causing your ball to get knocked off its line or stopped dead in its track. Bunkers have alot of rocks in them. Tee boxes are rock hard bring a hammer with you to put your tee in with.
Great course- But trash around most holes
I can tell you the course is enjoyable; but the trash around most holes is unacceptable!! Will probably not be back because of it.
Great condition
Shorter course but it’s in great shape. Played day after it rained so many holes were cart path only. Greens are one of the best in the area.
Could have been better
Snack shack closed all afternoon at least. Cart girl just drives past you not stopping as well sometimes even when waving for her to stop. Course itself in good shape. Fine layout.
Good course
Course is in much better condition than before the re-do, missed the snack bar at the turn.
Unique
So this course is confusing lay out.. listen to the nice guy who sits at #1 tee. I love a challenge but this course has big trees in the way of tee shots on the first 4 or 5 holes. It’s not a long course so hitting a low 3 wood or iron works well. I think the fairways can be cut more often. Hitting in the fairway had Bermuda sprouts over my ball. Also losing driving distance. I ave 260 off the green.. when I’m use to getting that extra 15-20 yard run. Greens look to be recovering from the sand filled holes and ran true. Had 6 one putts. Think I’ll play this again in July when Texas conditions firm it up a bit. Love the course… just have to pay attention to the layout.. you’ll get lost. Paid 82$ which is not bad I guess for the course. Was told they have new management in the past year… love to see this course have it’s full potential. My biggest complaint is the fairways should be cut more often.
Ridiculously slow pace of play and rude people.
If you like rude golfers who clearly think the world revolves around them, play this course. Pace of play was extremely slow. Took 5 hrs to complete 18 holes.

the back nine has received a clean up, other than that same course, unfortunately no snack bar at the turn
