Iron Horse Golf Course
About
Iron Horse Golf Course is laid out in the floodplain of Fossil Creek, an area loaded with woods and a railroad that divides the property into three tracts. When Dick Phelps designed the golf course he loaded it with par 4s that are over 400 yards. This track has only two par 5s, but you'll get your money's worth as they are virtually impossible to reach in two. Iron Horse's best hole is the 462-yard, par-4 third hole, which is generally a bogey hole for the average golfer.

Lots of ground under repair on every fairway. This was one of the better ones. Photo submitted by Ken9948006 on 03/27/2023

Great Course For The Money
Little bit of slow play but overall the course is in great condition. The greens were in good playable shape. I couldn't beat the price I paid for that course.
Late Summer Round
The course was in overall good shape. The greens were a little too slow for my taste but did roll true. I recommend the course if it's convenient. I wouldn't drive far to play it.
Great value
Great value for the money. Would play this course again.
Seriously need signs
This course seriously needs signs to the next tee. Going from #1 green to #2 tee you have to go back down #1 fairway a little and take a 90 left that looks like it just goes into the residential area. We missed that turn and had to back track.
Going from #11 green to #12 tee we just continued past the green like normal, only to see #18 tee. So we backtracked and you have to go back down #11 fairway and turn right and go under an overpass to get to #12 tee. No signs that we saw to prevent that mistake. If you were walking, that walk up to #18 is brutal and then to find you are at the wrong tee and have to walk back and then to get to #12 tee you have a long walk under an overpass, that would have been brutal.
We when finished #18, had no clue how to get back to the cars. The GPS map is not that easy to follow. You aren't sure which direction you and when we moved the cart just 20 feet or so to get an idea of the direction we are going, the screen changes to "Two-Way traffic, be careful" and the GPS screen went away, so we had to go back and go the other direction to see which way we were headed.
Just a few signs would make an amazing difference.
Enjoyed the round.
All was good. Enjoyed the course.i have Nothing else to say.
Slow greens/good staff
The course was in pretty good shape. The greens were a bit slow though which is fine. I had some problems with Golfnow showing my tee time, but the staff helped me out and squeezed my group in, good job. Great course for the money.
Great course for the money
I'm most satisfied with the pace of play. If for some reason the group in front is going a little slow, the Marshall has always asked me if I want him to tell them to step aside and let me play thru. GPS is great on this course and also helps keep the fairways nice. I can always find great deals pretty much any day of the week.
Green Fee is not in proportion to condition of course
The fairways were rough at best on many of the holes. There is construction on the highway which makes for breathing pure dust in a few locations. I would consider paying $15 to play this course in the condition it is in.
Shot-maker's course
Shorter course that makes you play from position to position. The opportunity for risk/reward is there, but I only pulled the driver on 4 holes.
Course condition was excellent. Greens were as good as any public course in the metroplex. Minimal grain, looked like they had a good verti-cut/topdress program going. Speed was consistent and not too quick given the slope in the greens. Some spotty irrigation issues from tee to green, tough to avoid in August in Texas. Some tee boxes really need to be leveled.
Enjoyable course
Course is in good condition and somewhat challenging (for me, a beginner). The pace was great and the staff was very friendly.
Lack of cold water on every hole.
There was a lack of cold water on every hole. Water was available at every station but it was warm. Also noticed a lack of ball washers. Coarse was in great shape but play was slow. Not sure why play was slow.
Shot maker's course
This is a position course, on most holes , driver is not needed or even recommended. The green are generous and well maintained. It can be said there is water on every hole except #1. The two par fives are very birdieable in three shots but not receptive to 200 yard approaches. Later on Sat-Sun the skill and pace of play goes way down. But the recent price increases have lessened this, along with a concerted pace of play push. Matt maintains a courteous and helpful staff, even the cart and drink staff.
Nice course. Would not pay full price.
This is a well designed and cared for course. Fairly short, but offers plenty of challenges. Overall, the course is in good shape. All greens were very well kept, but many of the fairways had bare spots which are mostly around the edges. In my opinio. It is a fun course, but not something I would pay the regular $50-$60 fee to play.
Nice layout
I always enjoy playing this course. There are some challenging holes but the course is not too long
Great Round, Great Conditions!
Haven't played this course in several years. Course has been looking very good every time I drive by it, even with or hot summers. I had to play it, it was calling my name. Course was in immaculate condition, and we weren't pushed or held up the entire round. I paid fifty dollars plus fees on golfnow for myself, my son, and my stepson since he's fifteen was free. Was a great day and played one of my best rounds in over a month. Can't wait to get back out there. Great price for a great conditioned course.
The course was ready.
Iron Horse has something challenging on each hole whether it is a stream, the trees, a hard dog leg, the rough or the pin placement on the green, it is not going to make it easy on you.
The staff is friendly and responsive and the course itself is well maintained. The greens were in good shape. In close inspection, I'd day the previous golfers repaired their divots.
All in all, it's one of my favorite courses.
Need directions
Had heard about the course, and finally had a chance to play. Heavy rain the previous day created some issues to no fault of the course. How about some directions on the course as to where the next hole is. If it wasn't for others in my party being familiar, several times I'm riding what appeared to be to be towards the next hole only to find out I should have turned around, gone under the highway. A few signs would be very helpful. Otherwise enjoyed it.
Dump
Did I play the same course everyone else reviewed? The course was in awful shape. I understand that it's summer and the heat kills the grass but I've played several other places in the past week and they did not look anything like what I saw today. Not to mention that the grass being awful was only part of the problem. I'm shocked they don't give a discount since there is a huge construction project (the highway) in the middle of their golf course.
I'm not a cheap guy and I don't mind spending money to play at a nicer place (which this is not even close) but for what you get at Iron Horse, you should be paid to play the course. Not even the carts were nice. Just about every place in DFW is a better value.
As I was leaving, I wanted to tell the people that were coming into the parking lot to turn around, go home. and save their money.
Do not play this.
You have a ball washer on your golf cart. It is located just behind the driver's seat.
