About
Southwyck is new and improved after re-opening in the summer of 2002 with new fairways, tees, and greens. This links-style track features prominent bunkering, water in play on 14 holes, and is known for its difficult back nine.
Southwyck first opened in 1988 on the prairie lands east of downtown Houston-at the time, it was the only true links-style track in the area. Like the Scottish courses, this track is susceptible to the wind, and Kavanaugh did a nice job of confusing golfers off the tee, as it's difficult to determine exactly where you want to hit the shot. Depth perception is difficult, and local knowledge is helpful.
The course once served as the home course for the famous University of Houston golf team, and it served them well with its difficulty. Large mounding prevents level lies, and water comes into play on 13 holes. Tall native grasses line the fairway and require desperate hacks into the fairway when errant shots become buried in the heather.
No. 5 is a monster par 3 at 250 yards, but the par 3 No. 11 might be more difficult because of the long carry of a ravine down to the green 212 yards away. No. 3 might be the toughest in Houston. It rolls 467 yards into the wind with fairway bunkers lining the right side.
Getting there : From Hwy. 288 south find the Hwy. 518/Pearland exit. Turn left and look for the Silver Lake Subdivision. Take that road to the course.

Greens are bad
Greens are in bad condition. Fairways and tee boxes are in great shape. They need to get rid of inferior growth on greens and the course be 5 stars!!

This course need a a serious makeover
the fairways are like riding on a rocky road, it beats you to death.
The greens are atrocious, there are dirt patches and uneven patches not to mention being aerated, the ball bounces around like a ping pong ball, there is no way to hold the line, its like putting on broccoli lol. It could be a sweet course with some maintenance

In rough shape again
Greens had been punched a few days before and they were brutal. They punched what looked like about 5/8" holes in the green. Not sure they would have been any good of they hadn't been punched--really brown, lots of bare spots. They have stopped maintaining the bunkers entirely, which just seems lazy. This course could be so good.

Course in good shape
The course is in very good shape. The greens are a little sandy, but it was pretty obvious the had just been punched and sanded. Greens still rolled fine. This course is a good value for what they charge.

Unputtable greens. Course overbooked. No marshall. No cart girl.

Won't go Back
Ragged. Not manicured at all. Greens bumpy, sand traps unplayable, fairways rough. This use to be a nice course. If you get a $25.00 deal on Golf Now and just want a cheap course to play and don't care about condition, this is for you.

Very slow play
They allow 5 players to tee off and it slows down every one behind them.

the course needs work bunkers were not playable. Some greans ruff roll on ball. Course needs to add por a pottysfor emergencys!!

Great golf outing
It had rained for a couple of days before we played but the course had drained well except for the sand traps. Course beverage cart came by often and the pace of play was with no waiting.

Very enjoyable course
Much improved over when I played it early last year. Great layout. No two holes feel same. Makes good use of terrain. Shouldn't t allow five-somes on weekend though.
