Don't bother
I played today and wish I hadn't. Cannot think of one good thing to say about it. Fairways are bare, patchy and uneven. Bunkers not raked and should be GUR, they were that bad, and several of the greens are not fit to putt on. They have spent an absolute fortune on this course over the years, and I'm sorry to say it's worse than it was before they made the major changes. Sorry to say, but I won't be going back. And feel sorry for the members who play week in, week out.
Disgusting
Awful! It’s more concerned with the social element than the actual golf course.
Meant to be a Municipal
Been playing here for 40 years, and it has been a Municipal run by Liverpool City Council. Lease was sold a number of years ago and the new owners have to keep it open to all for a few years yet.
Sadly, todays golfers are suffering for the future members as the beautiful course is ripped up and re-modelled.
Weather was great, course dry and still there were 90% Temporary Tees and Greens for some reason - this is on a course that is no longer £15 but £35, and for 14 holes!
The remodel has been going on for 2 or 3 years now, yet there are still mounds of soil and mud everywhere and the only decent holes are the originals.
Nothing less than vandalism has been committed here, including closing off public footpaths. Shocking and the owners seem more interested in making money out of the bar and restaurant than providing a good golf course - just look at the website to see where their priorities lie
Golf course destroyed.
An absolute mess. The previous 18 course was fine and the 9 hole was great. No idea sometimes where the next hole was, massive treks between holes, the brilliant gulley par 3 gone, why? Thin fairways, grass too thick in the rough, ridiculously so. Some really great holes lost for what? Progress? The worst golf course I’ve played in years. You’ve turned a good golf course into a 14 hole unfinished mess. An absolute joke. You should be ashamed.
Allerton Manor Liverpool
Course has been undergoing remodelling for over 2 years now. Fairways average as are the greens.
Been a member since just before I retired 2 years ago.
2 years as a 5 day senior member.
Now all of a sudden they have increased the Senior qualifying age from 65 to 70 so obviously they believe they can control the country's retirement age.
With the exception of Steve who works in the Golf shop the rest of the golf team are not very helpful. Generally when you have buggy at times you need to wipe your feet to get off it. Buggy's not kept in good condition and any good ones are normally snaffled up by the green keepers who return them in a bit of a state. Golf shop is extremely expensive. ie: 50% more for golf balls than either in a golf outlet or online.
Restaraunt is average and service leaves a lot to be desired. Would give an overall rating of less than 2 stars
Overpriced
Course has gone downhill month on month and considering the good weather recently the course was in a shocking condition. Charging £20 per round for 17 temporary tees and greens is a joke.
Off course facilities are excellent but spend some money on the actual course.
Not Worth £35
This course was once playable for the price of £20 at weekends and £18 midweek. How they can justify almost doubling the fee is beyond me. Nothing has improved course wise, Saturday and Sunday the pace of play is still ridiculous and the tee boxes are uneven and bare. Seems to me that the price increase is to fund the new buildings. Better courses out there for less!!
Unbelievably slow play.
The course is in a good condition and the greenkeepers have evidently been doing a good job, but they are being hindered by the amount of people play who do not replace divots or repair pitchmarks. The pace of play is poor, so so bad. A weekend round you should expect to be on the course upwards of 5 hours and even on a weekday you will be lucky to have a round shorter than 5 hours, being a short course (par 67 around 5200 yards) this is totally unacceptable. In summary if you want to pay £20 for the slowest play in the UK, divots and pitchmarks then this is the place to be.
Great course...slow pace from guests
Really enjoyed my round today, and the clubhouse facilities are great.
The pace is poor as you get a lot of people on who don’t seem to follow the etiquette of letting faster/single players play through. Not the fault of the course, as they make it abundantly clear on the scorecards.
Tees need a bit of TLC but overall the course is in great knick for a municipal, and will come back for sure.
Enjoyable round
Bit awkward to get to atm due to roadworks on Menlove Avenue close to the course. When we got there we booked in with the helpful and cheerful staff. Tee off was on time as per.... Round was at a decent pace, no long holdups, fairways in good condition, play very fast and long in the hot conditions, couple of greens could be better, some getting damaged by birds pecking at them. Overall it was a good visit, will continue to play Allerton, can`t wait for the on-course café between 8/9 and the clubhouse and pub to open again. Will defo be back.
Enjoyable knock at a reasonable price
Not played allerton before but was quite impressed overall. Course condition was okay - greens ran nice but tees and bunkers need some TLC. Quite a short course which means you don't need to use every club in the bag but they have some good plans for the place so will be good to see what they do with it over nwxt few years to make it more of a test of golf. Off course facilities are nice. Would play here again for sure.
Nice course but very slow
The facilities when you first get there are fantastic with lots to offer. Iwalked over to the first tee 5 minutes ahead of time after warming up and there were 2 groups waiting to tee off so should have known it was going to be slow going. I eventually teed off 15 minutes late. The course itself is in great condition with 3 difficult par 4s to start off all needing a driver and fairway wood to reach the green in 2. It was a shame the greens were full of pitch marks which i hate as I was constantly repairing them before I could putt. After 7 holes in nearly 2 hours I decided to walk off the course as was behind 4 X 4balls who didn't bother with course etiquette in letting me play through and I was waiting close on 10 minutes at each tee box.
I was considering joining the club before playing and that won't be happening now.
Slowest course ever played
I have never played on a course so packed with golfers. We had to wait on almost every hole The snack bar/shop near the eighth green was farcical Our two ball were fifth in a queue and took just on 30 mins to get onto the tee. There were no opportunities to get any rhythm or flow to your game and although the course looked and played well I won’t be returning. I presume the course manager are just cramming as many players as possible onto the course and hoping everyone will just sort themselves out it took us over 4.5 hours to complete our two ball. To be avoided
Allerton has it all...
Played Allerton for the first time & thoroughly enjoyed the experience. Course was in great condition in particular the greens which were superb for the time of year. Great staff & easy booking. Also enjoyed a pint & pizza after the round in the fletchers bar which I’d recommend. Will definitely be back for another knock soon.
Great course with a variety of challenges
Well, I played Allerton Manor a few weeks ago.....I've just joined!
I had not played there in around 3 years and in my opinion it was a shame, the council was not spending any money on the up keep of the course.
A friend recently recommended I play, I turned up, wow, new restaurant, new sports bar (19th hole) and a course which was much different from when I had last played. A lot of subtle sounding and general TLC had been given to the course and I had a ball. I genuinely joined the next day and I cant wait to play there for the next year!
It's a modern club and course , excellent staff, friendly and relaxed and everything the game of golf should be in 2019!
Come and have a go but be warned, it will be hard not to join!
Decent course, poor condirions
Was a memeber here last year and been really impressed with it but played 3 courses within the last 7 days and all played proper tees and greens but not here. Winter mats are awful and overall fairways / conditions not great.
1st class course
Absolutely love playing this course all fairways and greens in top condition for the poor weather we've had lately ...staff very friendly and helpful...would highly recommend for us 18 plus handicappers and it was where I broke my 100 and I regularly shoot @ 93 now ..No par 5's but some long challenging par 4's /3's ...on the 9th tee is the halfway house a wecoming sight on these cold bloody day's serving hot drinks and food.... Am looking to become a member next season and Im sure my handicap will improve
Nice course but overbooked
Nice course with excellent greens given the recent weather. However it was massively overbooked sadly which means this is not a good review. Took near 5 hours for a 3 ball to play the course, sometimes 2-3 groups deep waiting on a tee. Also a lot of 'old guard' out playing very slowly and also seeming to complain about other groups game even if they were not very good themselves. Finally leave yourself 10-15 extra to find a parking space as it's ridiculous.
TL;DR a nice course but overbooked and wouldn't recommend
It’s a course in transition. It’s impossible to turn a tired, old and very short golf course into a great one overnight. The new leaseholders have taken a balanced approach to the delivery of a new course and in my view are doing a cracking job. I have now joined this year and look forward to16 holes by mid-May and a full 18 by the end of the year. Ps I have been playing Allerton for over fifty years and this will be the best iteration so far. Well done guys!
