Slow play and mud bath
Played here, 31/1/26 and although the weather hasn’t been the best, rain the day before and a bit the day off, I never expected the conditions to be so bad. Every tea box was bogged down and slippy. Fairways were okay in parts but then completely unplayable in others, with thick slippy mud and waterlogged. Greens where generally okay, but some where waterlogged.
What was a real disappointment was the pace of play. Even with 10 minutes tee time intervals, you soon catch the golfers in front. By the time we hit hole 15 we were waiting on 2 groups in front and when we teed of, there was at least 2 groups behind. Players talking on the greens after they had finished and taking 5 practice shots only to drive it 15 yards.
This obviously isn’t the courses fault but it really did put a damper on an already poor course. This is one of the busier courses in Liverpool but I will be avoiding this course in wet weather and on the weekends at all costs unfortunately.
Forgiving course and good cheap round
Nice cheap round but relatively well kept course. Winter drainage is better on some holes than others but no real problem getting around the course. Have played in summer and can not fault the summer conditions.
Course plays a nice challenge for beginners but also fairly forgiving
Local to this course
This course is shockingly bad. I grew up around there and even I don’t play it anymore. Played it out of interest as it had been a while: they have no control over the people that bunk on leaning wait times are ridiculous. Owners have spent money on a bar but feels like they haven’t invested in the course in a long time. The bar attracts locals for food and drink and 90% of the car park is not people there to play golf.
Also Bowring you should be ashamed of yourself for misrepresenting your course. THE IMAGE USED IN THE THUMBNAIL IS NOT A REAL HOLE OF THE COURSE. It’s the first hole and they’ve added trees to the left hand side of the image to give the affect of a more shaped hole. In reality it’s just a big wide open first hole, really boring course with at most 2 interesting holes. Very short par 4s. Mostly a hole for beginners learning the game due to course layout, maintenance of course and pace of play
Great Day at Bowering Park
After telling my Bird I was going to work some how my Golf Clubs found themselves in my Van so off to Bowering Park I went . Great Day Boss Course 😁😁
if i could give 0 stars i would
had a tee time today at 8:10 travelled from chester so about 30 minutes or so not too bad.
on arrival there was no practice area and we were told that we shouldn’t play after the 4th hole but go back and repeat. i though ok might be a bit wet…..
the bunkers you could probably swim in (not a exaggerate) some holes the actual cup was below water…
water logged greens and some holes without flags they probably should have closed to allow recovery for the course rather than take money without a care.
overall a pretty bad experience might be better in the summer but i doubt i will return .
and so you can see how we found 2 holes i only got 1 video of a hole with no flag so enjoy 😂
Exactly what it says on the tin!
This is an excellent municipal course, perfect for the beginner or intermediate golfer, very casual. Facilities aside from the course are limited so come ready to play. The fairways are almost as wide as they are long and the greens, for a municipal course, are extremely good. The yellow tee boxes are the most well-used and could maybe do with a bit more TLC, but aside from that, one can have few complaints for the price. The dog walkers are generally considerate, but like all municipal courses, there is the issue of the occasional group of cheeky reprobates hopping on, although staff do a great job of chasing them off in carts. You can usually tell who they are so I would just encourage everyone to hit balls at them; they’ll soon learn.
Great course
Great challenge and excellent value for money. Greens where In great condition.
Great fun
This course is as always a wonderful place to play
DO NOT GO HERE!
Absolutely the worst course I’ve ever played and probably ever will.
So bad that the locals said they don’t even pay to play l, they just jump on and go around for free.
The length of the grass was completely ridiculous, not playable at all, this includes fairways and tee boxes. Clearly not seen a mower in weeks or months. I’m not even convinced that the grass is golf course grass. Felt more akin to a generic field.
The greens could have been okay if you’d have bothered to repair the months worth of divots, and keep the holes sharp.
Overall this course is completely neglected and I had to apologise endlessly to our 3 ball for choosing this course to spend their money on.
Given that the course signs said it was national lottery funded, I suspect some big time corruption going on, someone must be pocketing the money that it costs to actually maintain a course!
Diversity of fees
I’m a new golfer probs about 5 months, I’m enjoying the golf at Bowring park but when I pay on line it’s £22 but I’m over 60 and should be £16. Also I pay for for my golf and tee time but when I get to tee off is about 15 mins after my time and I find a lot of people don’t pay they just walk through the double gates to the tee, so I then have 3 groups in front of me 3 ball 4 ball and a 2 ball but if I’m paying why are they not paying I pick my tee time to coincide with picking grandkids up from school etc so think this should be looked into it’s frustrating. On a few occasions no one in front of me but then you end up with someone in front of you who has obviously just bunked onto the course hope this helps.
poor cause slow play
the course is in poor condition tees are hacked and haven't had the grass cut its like teeing off from the rough . the greens are awful . patches of bare soil with not gur notices . fairways poor long grass and many duvet marks. pace of play awfully slow people riding bikes across the couse and dog walkers walking randomly across fairways during play . used to be an ok cause but its a mess now
Nice course
Really nice course, wide fairways can be forgiven if you slice or hook the ball, then other where you ha e to think about it. Love bowring and always will
Golf review
The only down side to this course in my opinion I book on line for the tee time which I have done o about 6 occasions, I try and book a time that is not busy as only learning the game, but on all 6 occasions I get to my tee time and there are 3 or 4 ball groups on the tee also, so must be double booked but then when I wait 10 15mins after my tee time I then have a 3 or 4 ball behind me so pressured all the time
as I’m not a good player at the moment plus then you get golfers who jump in front or behind by bunking onto the course so I feel why should I pay for this when the course is double booked or people just walk on whenever they want very frustrating
Dog park or golf course?
This would be a lovely little course if it wasn't for the ignorant dog walkers that stand in the middle of fairways throwing balls for their dogs while you're waiting to hit your ball. Add that to some the players that refuse to abide by the slow play rule and it actually ends up being an incredibly frustrating day out. Such a shame as the course is decent, well looked after and coach house is lovely!
Great layout nice course some of the greens slight damage but overall would be happy to play again
Not great
The course is not well kept. The greens were bumpy with divots and lots of sand thrown across them.
The fairways were indistinguishable to the rough as were the greens.
It’s ok to practice on for brand new golfers, however I wouldn’t recommend for anyone who plays even fairly regularly.
