One of the first courses in the growing 1970s Plano community, Pecan Hollow started out as the Plano Municipal Golf Course. Don January and Billy Martindale, who had recently completed their signature Royal Oaks in Dallas, contracted with the city to help provide golf for Plano’s growing population.

The terrain here is flat, and the fairways are mostly wide open. January used the standard bunkers, water hazards, and trees in his design to cause problems for the golfer. The greens are of medium size and speed, and the course is basically pretty standard until you reach the punishing final stretch of holes. Nos. 16-18 are all 445-yard-plus par 4s with water in play–one of the toughest tests of golf in the DFW area.

Getting there : From I-75 north, take Plano Parkway east, then exit at 14th St. Turn right, drive a short distance to the course, and look for the entrance on the left side of the street.

What are they doing with the carts?

I was ok with the top-dressed greens. I was ok with bunkers that had too much or too little sand. I was a little less ok watching a walking twosome (in a foursome) hold up the entire back 9. But really, what in the world are they doing with the carts?

I played here a few weeks ago and had no issue with the carts. Good course, great greens, nice layout. Today was awful. It was hot, 95 degrees, it was slow (2:30 back 9). Every single time you tried to drive to a shady spot off the cart path, the carts locked up the gps and immobilized you. You then had to wait 15-30 seconds for it to be able to move again. Twice, I simply tried to go around other carts parked on the path, and the cart locked up. I was less than 10 feet off the cart path. Other times I simply wanted to sit under a tree near the fairway while the other players played in behind me, but the cart started beeping and locked me in place. It was miserable. Several four letter words were uttered. I have no idea why management implemented this ridiculous policy. Fairways were 100% dry, barely any rough. Other carts had the same issue. We were well away from the green, near the fairway or near a cart path, and there were no ropes, signs or any notice that we were in a non-cart area. Just stupid, especially with lots of 60-80 year old men that play here on 90+degree days. I will not be back.

One of My Favs

Pecan Hollow did not disappoint. Although the greens were firm and hard to hold approaches, the were rolling true. Good greens, fairway lies,, and tee boxes keep this one of my favorites.

COST

W all the restrictions, the price should come down a bit, NOT GO UP.

Why are you raising the price? Wonder why nobody is playing, you would think there would be a small discount, a bucket of balls, a soft drink!! Anything.

First time here, nice surprise

I came to Pecan Hollow because I realized it was the only public course in DFW that I had not played. How did I miss this one?

Great greens, perfect. Large, some undulation, and great rolls. Tee boxes and sand were pretty good too. Fairways had some wet, muddy, or bare spots because the course sits in a floodplain. Very straightforward course, you can see every shot you are supposed to hit, except #18. Some elevation change, but not much. A lot of fun, shotmaking holes, which I really like. Not really a bombers course.

A lot of construction going on in the creekbed was a bit of a distraction. All in all though, this was a fun course and I was mildly surprised at how good the greens were for a muni. I will definitely come back.

Regular Senior Player

This is my regular course when senior league plays, can't wait to get back and lower rates.

Today was rainy and cart path only but the rain stopped after 10 holes. The greens are always in great shape and my putter was hot.

Club house is closed, we ate lunch on the terrace and food excellent.

Staff is always friendly.

Rocking and Rolling Away

I like Pecan Hollow. Generally, I think it is over priced. It is a beautiful course. There is so much grass land, very pretty and lush; but it is the same as water if you go in it. You will not likely find your ball. So, beware of the grasses, just like it was water. The greens were hard as a rock and even the best of approach shots is going to roll off, or on the larger greens, roll as far away as possible. The greens were smooth and very fast. Except for the edges, the bunkers had very little sand in them. The really good thing for a duffer like me is that the fairways were hard and rolling and rolling. So, I had a pretty good day with the driver. With the greens as hard are they are now, and its not even summer, I wonder what they will be like then. Except for the elevated greens, and most are elevated to some extent, there is no way to go at the pin. You will want to land the ball at least five yards short, maybe more. One of the really good things about this course is the strategically placed shade. We Texans like shade.

Great Golf Course

Second time I played it, even better. Not bad pace of play. 4 hours.

Great greens, good layout, nice test of golf.

You better have you putting stroke tuned. And keep the driver in play.

Beautiful.
