Pecan Hollow Golf Course
About
One of the first courses in the growing 1970s Plano community, Pecan Hollow started out as the Plano Municipal Golf Course. Don January and Billy Martindale, who had recently completed their signature Royal Oaks in Dallas, contracted with the city to help provide golf for Plano’s growing population.
The terrain here is flat, and the fairways are mostly wide open. January used the standard bunkers, water hazards, and trees in his design to cause problems for the golfer. The greens are of medium size and speed, and the course is basically pretty standard until you reach the punishing final stretch of holes. Nos. 16-18 are all 445-yard-plus par 4s with water in play–one of the toughest tests of golf in the DFW area.
Getting there : From I-75 north, take Plano Parkway east, then exit at 14th St. Turn right, drive a short distance to the course, and look for the entrance on the left side of the street.

Course in great shape
The greens were awesome and very fast but rolled very true.
Rocking and Rolling Away
I like Pecan Hollow. Generally, I think it is over priced. It is a beautiful course. There is so much grass land, very pretty and lush; but it is the same as water if you go in it. You will not likely find your ball. So, beware of the grasses, just like it was water. The greens were hard as a rock and even the best of approach shots is going to roll off, or on the larger greens, roll as far away as possible. The greens were smooth and very fast. Except for the edges, the bunkers had very little sand in them. The really good thing for a duffer like me is that the fairways were hard and rolling and rolling. So, I had a pretty good day with the driver. With the greens as hard are they are now, and its not even summer, I wonder what they will be like then. Except for the elevated greens, and most are elevated to some extent, there is no way to go at the pin. You will want to land the ball at least five yards short, maybe more. One of the really good things about this course is the strategically placed shade. We Texans like shade.
Great Golf Course
Second time I played it, even better. Not bad pace of play. 4 hours.
Great greens, good layout, nice test of golf.
You better have you putting stroke tuned. And keep the driver in play.
Beautiful.
Best Golf Course in the Dallas Area
Perfect
Wonderful layout
Great Greens
Could not have been better
Better hit your drives straight
Greens ok for this golf course. Usually better. Fairway grass a bit thin and kinda muddy. Not bad shape for mid-late April all things considering.
Nice Course
Although it rained on us a little bit today it was still a good day. Given the rain the course was still in good condition
Concrete bunkers
Arrived 15 minutes before our tee time (4:23) with no direction where to check in. Finally find the back entrance to the pro shop downstairs and were informed that they were ahead of schedule so the group we were paired with would be teeing off soon. Hurried back to the truck to get clubs and shoes and man in the pro shop told us to “get a move on guys let’s go” at 4:14. Get to the first tee in a rush and the fairway looks like a monster truck did laps on it. With the exception of cement bunkers, the rest of the course was nice, deceivingly fast greens. but doosher in the pro shop and a terrible hole 1 is enough not to come back. Even for $20. Spend a few extra bucks and go to Heritage Ranch
Great Day of Golg
The Greens were fast and nice but the rest of the course was dry so it was really hard surfaces around every hole and made it difficult to chip
If you like fast greens
This course has it all. Very nice warm up facility, staff very friendly. Course well layed out, greens were fast and firm. Plenty of tees so the experience can be everything you want. Will be back!
Great layout
Winter time golf in Texas is the hardest golf in the world. Greens are dormant, courses are muddy and the wind is up affecting balls that do not carry in the cold. That being said Pecan Hollow is a great layout without any major slowdowns due to routing. The slowest traffic was after the first par 5 on the front followed by a par 3. Even that was not an excessive slowing of the pace of play. Large pro shop, huge banquet area and friendly staff. Good range, decent short game area with bunkers and a good sized putting green. The rocking chairs overlooking the practice facilities are a nice touch for a post round beverage or two.
Excellent green with enough challenge to keep you thinking
Can't remember if I played here before but will definitely come back. The greens were in excellent condition albeit a bit fast. But the ball rolls nicely on the green. The fairway has dormant grasses similar to all other courses in the DFW area. We were the third tee out and noticed that all the bunkers were raked nicely. Kudos to the green keepers.
Beautiful Course. You won't be Disappointed!
I haven't played this course since it was called Twin Wells. I stopped playing the course back then because the course conditions were horrible. Course was overrun with weeds, fairways were bare, greens were in horrible conditions - My group and I stopped coming!
We came back and played, now called Irving Golf Course...OMG! The changes made on this course is insane! The fairways are 100% better then what they were. The tee boxes were in excellent condition - and we loved the whole revamped back 9 of this course. We noticed a lot of work being done at the course as we played and it showed. We met Fred, the Greens Keeper, on one of the holes and he was sharing some of the new attractions they are working on. You could tell him and his staff take their job seriously and was excited to share the news! This course will be one of the top courses in the DFW area. We will be back to playing this course. Nice work guys!
A DFW FAV
One of our go-to courses in DFW (and I've played quite a few of them), greens are fast and immaculate, always have a good time at Pecan.
