Pecan Hollow Golf Course
About
One of the first courses in the growing 1970s Plano community, Pecan Hollow started out as the Plano Municipal Golf Course. Don January and Billy Martindale, who had recently completed their signature Royal Oaks in Dallas, contracted with the city to help provide golf for Plano’s growing population.
The terrain here is flat, and the fairways are mostly wide open. January used the standard bunkers, water hazards, and trees in his design to cause problems for the golfer. The greens are of medium size and speed, and the course is basically pretty standard until you reach the punishing final stretch of holes. Nos. 16-18 are all 445-yard-plus par 4s with water in play–one of the toughest tests of golf in the DFW area.
Getting there : From I-75 north, take Plano Parkway east, then exit at 14th St. Turn right, drive a short distance to the course, and look for the entrance on the left side of the street.

Great course but dont go on the weekends (unless you want a 6 hour round)
I love this course but you better play it during the weekday. I got a hot deal and my tee time was 12:46, i don't know how its possible but there was a foursome in front of me that had the tee time 12:45 so they were definitely overbooking. Didnt actually tee off until 1:15 and it took almost 3 hours to play the front nine. Luckily when I finished nine i headed back to hole #1 and played the front again which was much faster the second go around but I just cant stand slow golf, it makes your scores worse! But back to about the course, its in great shape and the greens are quick and the layout is awesome. Good luck!
Good place to play
This is the first time I’be played here in several years. The greens were in good shape and very fast. Most tee boxes are large and in decent shape for this time of the year. Overall the course is in very good shape. The only drawback was the pace of play. Took our foursome 4 1/2 hours to play on Tuesday afternoon. Would recommend this course.
Always a good time
As always, PH never disappoints. Look forward to playing this course every time
The round was 4hr. 44min. Waited to t-off on every hole behind the 4-some in front of us.
Course in bad shape
One of my favorite course but they have not been taking care of it. tee boxes and fairways are so brown with very little grass. almost like playing on dirt. greens where green but very fast, prollly have not been watered in ages. i would not recommend playing there for the next 6 months. plenty of other course that are in better shape. Staff is very friendly and welcoming as they always are.
Pecan Hollow in Plano is great!
The course was in great shape. The green are electric!!! The greens are very fast and rolling pure. If you miss a put its your fault not the condition of the green. Fun course! Highly recommended
Pecan Hollow
The course is in great shape! It is a great muni that never disappoints! The greens are fast but fair. The layout is fun and wide open which is great for beginners.
Great Greens!!
Very nice greens for any course let alone a municipal. Course is pretty wide open and great for beginners. A nice and well maintained short course paired with an enormous practice green make this visit a great value for the money. Local Favorite
This course is a local gem. It is located not too far from Dallas but feels like it is far from the city. The course is in excellent condition and the greens keepers actually know what they are doing. Rarely do you find a course where the greens roll true for under $75. The only downside of this course is the price and conditions draw a lot of golfers even during the week. The pace of play is consistently about 5 hours regardless of time of day. They would benefit from an active course marshals to motivate slower players but worth the money.
A Good Walk Spoiled
Tee time of 9:30, drove up to the second tee at 10:00. REALLY?? Another group was still on the tee in front of us (they didn't tee off for 5 minutes after we arrived); because one group was in the fairway and one was on the green (only the second hole)!! It doesn't take a brain-iac to figure that is a 9 hour round (even 6 hours if things pick up). The pro shop obviously allowed one or probably 2 groups to go off without a tee time. Person behind the desk said "Allowing an extra group wouldn't have put you that far behind". True, how many extra groups were allowed to play? Obviously, the tee time is just a "best guess". Part of course management is managing pace of play and tee times. NOT HERE. Very frustrating and totally unnecessary.
Favorite track in the area
I started playing here because it was close to work and I could get out early for twilight golf. It's the best muni in DFW for the money. The greens here are in terrific shape (FYI aerating this week) and roll great. You don't have to be perfect with drives, but a hook or slice will lose a lot of balls. The natural overgrown rough will take them and never give them back. I really like the layout change for this year and it helps speed up the round as others have mentioned.
Also, they have the best practice facility in the are IMHO. The driving range hitting areas are in great shape. The short course is fun and priced right. Chipping and putting areas play like the course. Highly recommended for anyone.
excellent changes to spped up pace
They renumbered 16 of the holes and boy it went from 5-6 hour rounds to down around 4 hrs. bravo. as stated before the nicest greens. only downside is the pro shop wont let anyone walk before noon. and afternoon it is to hot to walk. my issue is the lie they they tell to justify it. one guy says "it is a city policy" another says "most courses wont let you walk on the wekends". both lies cause i have called the city of plano and various courses in plano and surrounding areas even sherrill park which is right next door and everyone allows walkers on weekends.
but i deduct nothing because of that because they course is great and the staff is super nice. highly recommend this course.
TIP:
no breaks at pecan hollow. and if there is a break it isnt so bad that you cant just put a little mustard and pout thru and still go in the cup.
15-17 will destory the score card if not careful. 2 long par 4s that play uphill and a par 5 with uphill approach. 15 has water on the right to grab all the slices because peopl want to go for birds instead of just taking 2 medium irons and a wegde and go for the par. played with a guy haveing a great round and put up a snow man on 15. play smart.
Best Greens in DFW
Immaculate from tee to green. Good pace and all you want from the tips. Played as a fivesome with little waiting under 4.5 hours on a Saturday. Check out this hidden gem.
Good, BUT......
Love, love loved this course the first time I played it a couple of months ago and started playing it at least once a week. At first would always play on the weekends...pace was good...greens and fairways were nice. The only problem I have with this course is on the weekdays the pace of play is terrible. Me and my buddy can usually get out there on a Saturday around 4 or 5 and finish before it even gets dark. But every time we get out there on a weekday around 5 or 6 we can never finish because we always get stuck behind slow players who don't have the courtesy to let us play through. Have never seen a course marshal and you will barely ever see a cart girl, if at all. I'll give it one more shot on a weekday, but if we can't finish i'll just stick to playing this course on the weekends. Overall I love this course it is one of my favorites in the area and I've played some of my best golf here.
Great Course, inept Management
The renovations at the course a few years back were exception. It is a fantastic course for the average golfer.
However, it is one of the poorest run courses in the Dallas area. They will let parties of 5-6 off on Sunday morning at prime time, rarely will you see a marshal to assist with the large parties they let out. Calling in the Pro shop, letting cart girls, or cart boys know, is of no help at all. And don't expect to purchase and last minute needs there,.. The pro shop is seriously lacking. The cart girls and café staff are the highlights of the staff.
The hotdogs are great.
Sadly this could be one of the better golf values in Dallas if it were not for the incompetent management. Hopefully the City will take notice are address the staffing shortfalls.
On the other hand,... if you have a big party and don't care about impacting your fellow golfers, these hacks will let you go out.
Best Public Course in DFW!!!!!
I judge courses by greens, length and fun for amateurs. I play 4-6 rounds per month in the DFW area and this course has the best greens you can find in the area. I have no idea who the greens keeper is but he deserves a raise. They are playing much better than Tribute, Cowboys Club, and even some of the private courses around her like Canyon Creek. This is a no frills golf course. Practice green runs true like the course, great grass on the range and they have food. Staff gets the job done and the play is normally 4 hours or less. Wish they would raise the price to keep more people off the course.
The course is in good condition
I play this course about twice a month. I enjoy it every time I play it. The course is always in good condition, and the staff is always great.
