Slow play

I've played Avisford quite a few times as it's a decent course, but on this occasion we were a two ball playing behind a four, but only two of them had clubs! There was no course etiquette as regards letting us play through, so we were held up on every hole on the front nine watching them run backwards and forwards across fairways and greens to share clubs, unbelievable! (so obviously no one 'policing' the course) Thankfully they only played the first nine holes as we played eighteen.

It was also disappointing to see the practise net lying in an untidy heap on the ground.

Definitely not as well run since it was taken over and re-opened, although the course is in a reasonably good condition

Really poor course management!

What a shambles of a golf course, it took over 5 hours to play as a two ball, the club had let a group of 5 go out who had clearly never played golf before and were drinking heavily.

There was about 8 groups waiting by the 4th hole, I called up the golf club and they said that they had let them on and weren’t going to speak about it. Eventually had to skip 3 holes otherwise wouldn’t have finished in under 6/7 hours - will not return.

Welcoming staff and a challenging course

I found this course really challenging, but I am a complete newbie and so I’ll put that more to my skill than the course being a monster. Great variation on the back 9 with amazing views. The course makes you work out creative ways to get around but you have to strike consistently well or you’ll burn through golf balls like no tomorrow. Lots of fourball groups meant I was held up a bit, but everyone was friendly and waved me through when possible. The staff are a credit to this club, couldn’t help enough and you could tell that they cared about the experience here.

Thursday afternoon

I was greeted by a member of staff who said we could go off when we wanted.

He also gave me a few pointers of how the course was laid out.

I thought the course was was exceptional and it consists of 2 halves the front nine very mature and flattish and the back nine more hilly and open but the rough is proper rough.

Overall a very enjoyable afternoon's golf.

Many thanks.

Mr Kelly

Avisford Park

Whilst playing we found out 4 holes were closed. We were not informed of this when booking, phoning the course to see if we could use trolleys or signing into the course - very poor.

Therefore we paid for 18 but could only play 14 holes

Save this club

Great course for all abilities. Greens are beautiful, fairways are not bad. Second nine is more of a challenge but all round a nice course for a reasonable price .. more players need to play here so the new bypass doesn't destroy it.

Enjoyable and friendly

I liked this course and really enjoyed the visitor experience there. I received a warm welcome in the clubhouse and on the course from staff & members, especially because of my well-behaved dog, who was welcomed to follow me around the course.

The course is two 9’s separated by a road. The front 9 is flat parkland with trees, water and some surprisingly deep bunkers. The back 9 is set in a valley but is a bit more open, felt a bit shorter and played more easily. This gives the course a dual-character which I liked a lot.

Members seem to look after the course well. Fairways and tee boxes are in good condition with very few divots and no litter. Greens are slow but beautifully even and well maintained. Some of the hilly par 3s on the back 9 were really memorable.

Course is mproving every time.

A nice late booking for the bank holiday Monday, as most courses were closed. Played here a fair few times and this is the best I've seen it in years.

Greens had been recently slit but were recovering well, fairways were a little long but again, very sensible given the weather we have had, some great holes, didn't play too well going out but a silly 3 putt on 18 stopped me playing the back 9 under par....

There is a fair few areas that can catch you out, plenty of areas to avoid, given its shortness it can be tricky....really enjoyed our round, nice mix of near drivable holes along with some longer ones.

Plenty of small bunker which can grab the ball.

Keep it Avisford as it's a lovely place to play....

Friendly little gem

The course was looking a little tired from all the hot weather, but you could see the hard work was keeping it together. The greens are superb in every way. The course offers a nice contrast between front and back 9’s. I would recommend this course to anyone. Great value and a pleasant environment.

We shall return
