About

Holes 18
Type Semi-Private
Par 71
Length 6457 yards
Slope 127
Rating 72.2

The Club at Los Rios opened in the early 1970s with a Don January and Billy Martindale design that takes advantage of eight small ponds and a creek that winds through the layout.

Water is in play on over half of the holes, including the opening 485-yard par 5 that features two ponds in play off the tee, and another fronting the green.

Two very difficult holes stand out on this narrow, shot-maker’s course. No. 7 goes 431 yards but allows for a huge tee shot with a generous fairway, which will definitely help on the dicey approach over the creek into a shallow green. On the par 5 No. 14, water crosses the fairway three times from the back tees.

Getting there : From I-75 north, take Plano Pkwy. east until it dead ends at Los Rios Blvd. Turn left onto Los Rios Blvd. And continue on for 1 mile to Country Club Dr. Turn right and drive a short distance to the course–look for the entrance on the right side of the street.

Speed of Play was Excellent

Speed of play was excellent. However, the condition of the course was less than optimal. However, if you hit it well in the fairway, it rolled a long ways.

Hidden Treasure

Los Rios is a hidden treasure in Plano, TX. Probably one of the nicest courses I've played in the DFW area. Course is well maintained, greens hold and putt true. Everybody needs rain and with some as well as the sprinklers this course is fine. Will play here again. I live in Corsicana that is about an hour away and its worth the drive. Plus there is a PGA Superstore near by!

the golf course needs some serious maintenance specially around the tee boxes.

The course has some nice layout. But also needs some care around the tee boxes. Theres a tee box area , I dont remember what hole it was , but you're basically teeing off with absolutely no grass at all - just dirt ! The clubhouse area is kinda eerie , spooky ,like theres nobody around. If it wasn't for the great discount from golfnow , the whole experience at Los Rios would have been a disastrous day.

Greens are not very good. I will not be playing there anymore until things are improved.

Course needs cart path upgrades plus greens vary too much ref speed & consistency. Free round after 10 rounds is good promo & staff is great.

Don't go unless you have time

Fairways in decent shape. Greens look scattered; needed some attention. Understand will be replacing greens in the summer. Ok day but slow, slow, slow. Tee time at 2:00, actually started about 2:20, walked off 18 at 7:30. Didn't once see a marshall. If you like to play quick, don't play here

Only at a discount - not full price

Like the other members of my improptu 4some, I played Los Rios because of the $19 deal on GolfNow.
Average course, great value at the GolfNow deal.
I would not play here at full price except for a free invite or a discounted deal.
Even though we were following a tournament, that did not affect pace of play. Poor etiquette by other players. Non-playing "members" of tournament (very pretty ladies) would drive carts around the course in the middle of swing set-up or in the middle of shot path.
Pros-
1. Easy course. Good for a beginner to hone skills. Lots of forgiveness. Few greenside bunkers.
2. Easy to get to, just minutes of the President George Bush Tollroad.
3. Staff is cordial.
4. Nice yardage book - more courses should provide this, to give an idea about the layout, bunkers and hazards.
5. Fairways were in decent condition. Some spots close to 2 or 3 greens were about 10 yard circular areas of ground that should have been marked under repair but were not.
6. Cart ladies came around often, friendly and funny.
7. Greens were interesting and fast, Need some more TLC, but decent.
8. Bunkers - not many and very few protecting the greens - again very forgiving for the beginner.
9. Gas carts - look pretty new.
Cons-
1. Clubhouse and Pro shop seem to date from 1970 (think Caddyshack) and smells like it too. Musty, stale, dated, dark.
2. Driving range is atrocious. Rock hard. They charge $5 for muddy, chipped cracked balls
3. Tee boxes - No good marking or references for distances. Rock hard.
4. Fairways parallel each other and not always clearly marked.
5. No GPS on carts.
6. Single person outhouses on the fairways (2).
7. Infrequent watering stations.
8. Dire need of a course marshal - particularly on a weekend..
9. The PA system crackled and was hard to hear sometimes.
10. No mens locker room. Bathroom in pretty bad shape - visualize high school restroom.

Fun course and worth the price from Golf Now

For mid to high handicap players this course is a nice place to play. Not an open pasture like other courses but you can hit errant shots without constantly losing balls and strokes. Very serene location as well.

Just Below Average Experience

The weekend rate of $50 was overpriced for the following reasons:
1) Course was average (enjoyed no sand bunkers for a change).
2) Play was unusually slow with lots of inexperienced players in the several groups in front of us. The marshal sat in his cart (I watched him) and watched these groups without addressing the need to speed up.
3) The advertised their brisket sandwiches being available for lunch and burgers. We came through the turn hungry and ready for lunch on the go. They had no one working the upstairs grill. Instead there was a fridge with cold burgers and sandwiches with a sign that said, "Microwave for 1 minute." No thank you. Are you kidding? Busiest day of the week and there are 3 guys standing behind the register doing nothing.

Overall, people working there just didn't seem to care about the Los Rios experience.

Good course for value!

They removed almost all of the sand traps. A little bit of water. Not a very long course. The conditions (April) were playable but not ideal.

starts easy then some holes will get to you

Played it after a heavy rain, the course doesn't drain well and had plenty of casual water. Needs new cart paths which I believe are being planned in the near future.

Just okay

Course is dryer and dustier than most in the area, even this time of year. Greens were almost bare. Fairways are in play shape. The practice area leaves much to be desired.

Pace of play was fairly slow for a weekday afternoon. Never saw a refreshment cart even though there was somebody sitting in it when I teed off, made the turn, and finished round.

Course itself is very easy. Wide open fairways and no real trouble from bunkers or water, both are out of play for an average ball striker. Greens are a little bumpy and a slopey, doesn't match with the way the course plays. Again, the course needs some proper maintenance as it is in pretty poor condition at the moment.

First time playing here, probably won't be back. Have found much better values from every other round I have booked thru golfnow.

Los Rios

Greens were in good shape for this time of year. Fairways were well maintained. The course is challenging with the placement of trees in strategic locations and water (lakes and creeks) meandering through the course. Ownership is showing a desire to have a quality course for golfers to enjoy with a commitment to maintaining the layout.

Wide open, no bunkers

Played this course because of a hot deal on golf now for $15. It's exactly what it's worth. There are literally no hazards and every hole is straight and wide. If you can, try to find a deal before playing here because I don't think it's worth $15+ to play. Didn't notice any bunkers either. Course conditions were fairly average in the current season.

This was a good experience. The staff was very welcoming. For January, it was a pretty busy Friday, and the staff had had the starts running smoothly.
